this year s nachtdigital record follows the path we started to explore in 2017: to combine artists who are close to us, each given the specific task to tell a story in up to 24 minutes (which is pretty much the maximum you can press on one side of a vinyl record) - with complete artistic freedom.

within lok recordings’ sixth release, we introduce lokin to you. we’re coming up with something to break boundaries and strengthen the spirit of artistic freedom. -the fall- by the belgian-born berlin-based singer, songwriter and producer cook strummer - aka maxime donnet - is an evocative ode to lost love and forgotten spirituality. channeling the post-punk synth sound of his home country’s cold wave movement of the late 70s and early 80s, donnet has absorbed the sounds of his adopted home in germany, taking that all-pervasive electronic music that is all around him and morphing it into something new. the result is -the fall-. recorded in a cell located in the basement of an old stasi prison (studio k61 in berlin), it’s an album with one eye on the dancefloor, but one that works just as well when the party is over. it’s an album that blends the organic with the synthetic, mixing guitars and synths with post-dubstep flourishes and drum machines. it’s an album about something. the name of the album has been chosen in reference to first single fallen, the idea of falling in life and waking up again. it’s also about the fact that it’s not the fall that kills you. a fall can be graceful. a fall can improve a life perspective and create new paths. it can and does make you strong. the main metaphor in there is one of reincarnation. indeed, it’s the story of a soul negotiating with god to not reincarnate on earth again, but being forced to do it anyways. experience something different!

the german sebastian beus, based in ibiza-spain, get out with “the day after” ep for his debut on wats records. the ep expresses widely his personal and professional paths combining theoretical background with personal and artistic maturity and represents a mix of three distinctive aspects of his life: an open vision, a certain freedom, a specific place.

a collaboration of seismic proportions, we present “the last renegade” from safire, dlr & drs, backed with two experimental dlr forays called “dreaming of a place”. sinister, brooding and shaped with intent, “the last renegade” sees safire & dlr combining to create a half time beast, with the piercing vocals of drs a perfect fit. developing the dreamland themes from his last album, dlr explores dub and techno influences and more downtempo vibes on two mixes of “dreaming of a place”. digressing from the more typical dispatch format, dlr, along with safire & drs, express their artistic freedom to display the depth in quality within the label today.

bringing his signature sound to crosstown rebels, delightfully unconventional producer sis delivers his third release on the label, the blind side. hot on the heels of his boabab album on mobilee, rodriguez jr. delivers a stunning remix on the b-side. the blind side is set to soundtrack the summer, an incredibly infectious track with its exotic and intricate drum workouts and alluring vocal cuts. on the flip, rodriguez jr. brings in deep pads, uplifting melodic keys and a storming piano lines for a whole new take on the original. taking his artistic enthusiasm from his turkish father, sis grew up in berlin surrounded by music. following a series of releases on nick curly’s cecille, ricardo villalobos who loved his track trompeta so much that he released it on his boutique label picked up the german producer sei es drum in 2008. his success of trompeta led to an avalanche of recognition, groove magazine and ‘newcomer of the year’ by raveline mag named him both ‘producer of the year’. in 2011 sis launched his own label cocolino where he released his debut three-part album dejame. olivier mateu aka rodriguez jr. grew up in the south of france and moved to paris as a young adult and soon formed the electro group the youngsters. signed by laurent garnier to f communications, the duo released two albums and a string of successful singles. focusing on a different alias, rodriguez jr. gave olivier the freedom to run with his creativity, which can be seen in his acclaimed live shows.

assorted moods is a turning point in john swing’s artistic output straying from his signature house and techno sound, towards many of his other influences gathered in the years: from jazz to dub, funk to hip hop and of course, club music.

scuba continues his uncompromising scb moniker with caibu, a twelve track lp of cerebral techno, darkened disco and broken beats. paul roses career has enjoyed a unique trajectory that affords his reputation as one of the scenes most forward-thinking artists, label heads and promoters. always the risk taker, his hotflush imprint is credited as a key force behind the evolution of bass music, whilst his ground-breaking booking policy for the sub:stance night at berghain opened up one of the worlds most revered venues to new sounds and musical possibility. today he continues to challenge the status quo of electronic music through a packed touring schedule, various artistic projects of his own and a weekly radio show platforming new material. caibu is his first album as scb and incorporates material from the below the line and Ôold media new society eps of last year. preceding the release, a third ep - engineered morality - continuing to explore the fictional narrative in which a climate-related disaster corrupts a hypothetical timeline. the title of the album itself refers to an imagined surgical procedure where cognitive ability is augmented through transplant from one brain to another. as such, caibu and its accompanying eps invite the listener to forge their own ideas on the development of society in the context of crisis. within this dystopic setting, caibu draws strength from introspection. at times trapped in a pressurized container, at others floating through vast spaces, scb merges subdued hypnotism, syncopated basslines and visceral ambience to find his centre.
