the europe-centered techno scene might be thinking: where is techno in a city as vast, dynamic and electric as new york? it�s alive and well, and keeps growing through aptly-named new york trax. founded in 2016 and based in brooklyn, new york trax is an outlet for new york music, by new york artists, in new york city. new york trax 02 was written by boris brenecki (ontal, impulse controls), who has recently relocated to new york, starting a new chapter in his life and artistic career. this record is the very first material he produced in new york, heavily inspired by the city and its people. �the oven�, with its continuous filthy groove intensified by metallic percussions, is a serious candidate for an instant classic and a deadly weapon when used on a dancefloor. the grittiness of �the oven� was depicted through images of the less beaten paths of new york in a well-received official video published recently by the label. dark yet insanely dynamic �transit system�, based on field recordings of the new york city subway, opens with a bang the b side of the record, followed by �strictly hardcore�, a sonic manifesto of brutality. get it while it�s hot!

weekend circuit, record label born out of london, england, is an artistic entity focussing primarily on releasing first-rate techno since it�s inception in 2013. starting from humble beginnings, the outfit have rapidly grown into one of the cities most important collectives. the inaugural release, helmed by dax j, helped set the blueprint for a well-honed, forward-glancing sound that owes as much to london as it does to berlin.

alftavatn is thomallas second ep release on berlin-based techno-label krakatau records. the tracks captivate instantly and still surprise with imaginative variety, sudden shifts and dazzling timbre. 23 year-old thomalla was featured as a co-musician on bodi bills european �what�-tour in 2011/12 and recently started playing live-shows on his own. his tracks unite artistic and dancefloor-compatible appeal, which he was also able to show during last years visit of the red bull music academy in madrid. the alftavatn ep articulates his forward-looking interpretation of electronic music, embedded in references of his own eclectic education. techno without thought control

gerardo frisina goes back to the roots of the sound which has made him famous worldwide: the latin sound of classics like >descarga< or >the latin kick< (both previously released on schema). >moderno primitivo< is an ep about the encounter of the ancient afro-cuban tradition (the core of frisinas artistic dna) with a refined electronic taste. this component enriches drums and percussions and gives more edge to the whole production with details like pads and effects. in >moderno primitivo< the latin ensemble headed by frisina takes us into a jam session where percussions, piano and trombone play happily. the latin house mix is a club version where the rhythmic element and the groove take control of the mix. the melody is broken and a hammond plays over a ostinato bass. the flavour is definitely tribal. >cogele el ritmo< is a trip into frisinas latin world. slower than >moderno primitivo<, still has a solid hook to the dance-floor and is a triumph of joy and colour.

daniel steinberg continues to have great sucess on labels such as microfon, grandpetrol and stylerockets and is also the main representative for front room recordings. with his last e.p, featuring >keep on movin< and >dont you know?<, enjoying such widespread sucess we thought we should call upon the remix skills of roman flügel and siopis for this release. roman has been artistically active sine the 1990s with his own labels playhouse, ongaku musik and klang elektronik contributing some of the best house around throughout the years. his remixes for the likes of pet shop boys, human league, primal scream and kylie minogue have garnered him a worldwide recognition and now he delivers in true style to front room. siopis, fresh from his get physical release >penny from the lane<, has also recently remixed mr. static which has further pushed his name into the international dance music vocabulary. his work can also be spotted on some of the most prominent labels like get physical, bpitch control and crosstown rebels to name a few. three quality remixes making one brilliant e.p that maintains front room at the top of its game.
