roxymore returns with the latest instalment in her thoughts of an introvert series. the first part, which hit stores in 2017, was born out of introspection and a yearning for solitude. tracks like prodrome, which refers to symptoms indicating the early onset of an illness, seemed to reflect a global weariness, a head-nodding, late night search for comfort and respite. on part 2 though, a new energy is evident in the tracks. this is not what you think shrugs and fizzes with resilience, it feels like a maniacal, primal release from frustration and anguish. run feet finds an even more optimistic, upbeat bounce, not far from the stomping house euphoria of her first outing for dba, organ smith, but with the newfound confidence of an artist who is pushing both technology and style to the outer limits. mythical technology meanwhile, is a dancefloor-ready paean to technos own futurist manifesto.

the new ep by rroxymore signals another audacious step forward for one of the most daring artists in the electronic music diaspora. thoughts of an introvert part 1 is born out of introspection, out of the necessity to disconnect from the frenzy of crowds and to create a soundtrack to an inner landscape which exists beyond the reach of government and dogma. in the words of the artist, -it is a sonic diary of sorts, cataloguing the events of a world which has not yet been invented, in the form of three mesmerizing dance tracks free of nostalgia and the expectations of style.- the spatial afro futurist funk of prodrome finds rroxymore balancing darkness and optimism as only she can. the title track, thoughts of an introvert is instantly familiar and carries a soothing utopian spirit, so needed today. mycetozoa, the closing track is bouncing, drum driven and mad, a celebration of rroxymore s complex musical mind, offset by irresistibly banging toms and rolling rimshot patterns. it is a track which is at once melancholic, happy, vulnerable, and full of hope. everything seems possible on the dancefloor this music was written for

spiros kaloumenos has been one of the key artists of planet rhythm at an earlier stage. this time he’s back with a completely recrafted style that perfectly fits the label’s current state of mind. adventurous techno with thumping beats and at times a little acidic touch. the greek artist comes up with a killer four track ep that goes from the sturdy beats of introvert shadow, through the acid tainted 101 reasons to the rave inspired anthem called de forme. we’re happy to welcome spiros back to planet rhythm.

introvert (aka jukka varis) was born in northern finland in 1982. he lives now in helsinki, which is situated in the southern coast of finland. he has been making music for over 7 years, including progressive house back in 2004-2005 and his first own release from aurium records. the words >original<, >emotionally attractive<, >artistic<, >atmospheric< and >experimental< are the best to describe introvert’s sound. it gives people different moods and visions, something to listen closely to and to think about, and it works on the dancefloor too.

in the seventh ep to come out on his own imprint, labelhead dimi angelis serves up four tracks, each distinctively angls: bare and unassuming music. opening track “live chat events” leaves little space for actual conversation and immediately hits home with some thorough techno that reminisces of a bygone rave era which refuses to be forgotten. follow-up “index” continues that feel but switches things up by delving off the deep, ever so slightly distorted synth end. on the flipside angelis allows subtle percussion movements to do the talking in “lotus”. proper and powerful on its own, equally useful as a tool. “cosmodrome” closes down #007 and is the most introvert of the four with a unique, submerged sounding pattern that gradually builds and falls. an ep that will fit and improve any collection.

in the making of her first studio barnhus record, veteran dj and world-travelling introvert bella boo divided time between bedroom studios in ladbroke grove and hornstull, where she would hook up a dusty old tanzbaer, press record and sing straight into the laptop microphone over fuzzy r&b harmonics and snappy analog drums. the result is a collection of fascinating and fascinatingly groovy tracks, shuffling about with grace and vigour in the secret place where warm club music and introspective audio diaries meet to mingle.

behind the sstrom moniker hides one half of shxcxchcxsh and a long-time activist of sweden s experimental techno scene. having fallen in love with simple melodies and catchy arpeggios when being a member of bitpop/synth band slagsmalsklubben, he transferred these sensibilities further into his other projects. sstrom s excellent 2016 debut for semantica records was an excellent exercise in lush aquatic techno with breezy and lush atmospheres. the new ep -vitriol- is informed by the personal experience of the producer, which adds additional warmth and emotional weight to the record. the release brings back memories of earth pigments his father used when painting things in their house, the colours created were usually dark toned with some pastel lightness. this juxtaposition is felt throughout the record, which balances between cinematic futurist moods, steel-wool smoothness and subtle physicality due to its textured nature. the title track kicks-off with detroitish synth loops wrapped in dense lo-fi soundscapes, while -sienna- increases the tension by introducing more expansive melodic appeal intertwined with intensity of feather-like 4/4 rhythmics. -umbra- brings some shadowy sonic undertones immersed into a sea of crackle with melodies constantly resurfacing. the closing -ockra- bursts with more groovy patterns, yet retaining the same elegant warmth, which seems to be the signature element of this ep. while listening to all these tracks you feel like touching some alien surfaces with utmost sensitiveness with surreal landscapes stretching out in your imagination. this is carefully crafted introvert music, yet having some elegant dancefloor appeal.

sen am is the third album by london/ freetown based artist duval timothy. drawing upon his sierra leonean and british identity, sen am which means send it in krio is duvals most personal album to date. the album continues duval s work on solo piano on tracks such as whale as well as introducing layers of vocal samples, software instruments, field recordings and whatsapp voice notes from friends and family sprinkled throughout the record. the project hosts one feature from longtime collaborator nicholas mandalos whos slide guitar duval layers on the track language. sen am is duval s first release under his own label carrying colour. the album was recorded, mixed and designed by himself. in this way the project brings together the many disciplines duval work s across into one wide ranging proje

that cyberpunk chameleon of styles, manchester’s pride and dancefloor master ruf dug is back on wax on copenhagen’s music for dreams. following up the first 12” of remixes that came out last year, we once again re-visit the island life of monsieur ruffy and his debut full length album “island” (recorded during a sojourn on guadeloupe). first up we have italians on the mix. hi-jacking ruffy’s tribute to wally badarou, leo mas and fabrice opt to do their own thing: which is churning out a bouncing house belter of their own that bears little resemblance to the original lo-fi synth reverie. closer to the original then, is fellow mancunian andi hanley’s take on the same track. adding sparse percussion and and a simple but effective drum beat, this take seems to simply be an uncovered second half of the original, where it finally takes off for the dancefloor. “mangrove dub” is reworked by fresh-on-the-scene aussie producer tropical hi-fi who creates a brilliant version full of moist ambient textures and reverb-heavy dub treatments. at last but definitely not least, seahawks turns the whimsical hippie folk ballad “le rayon vert” into a more intense and neatly dressed affair, focusing on the instrumental parts and lifting aside vocalist nev cotte’s contribution to the original. still with a mindful of tropical dreams and the ocean shore close at hand, but in a more introvert vini reilly kind of way. essential package.

new record on help recordings by the arhus quartet maizena. this one is one of those more relaxing and introvert records we put out to stress the fact that life is not always about dancing. pretty sounds and not too many unpleasant or scary moments. most of the music is in the vain of their earlier work on no hands, regelbau and help, a rhythmical ambient music. recorded in the isolated haelge studios surrounded by nothing but the sea and the mols mountains.

with the opening track -i see you-, silent riders offer up a brilliant pop diamond combining all elements of their distinctive sound palette. lu’s soulful voice bounces off almost funky drum machines, all drenched in layers of dark analog ambience. on the lush -copenhagen dream-, lu channels a sense of brit-pop nonchalance into a political song about the state of her city. in contrast, -being afraid- sees the band in their hardest grittiest mode - with lu reminiscent of pj harvey at her most moody and the slow groove behind her like a factory machine beating and releasing steam. other highlights include the chilling -static- and the ethereal beauty of closing track -falling- which sees the riders in their most relaxed and dreamy state, and echoes the works of portishead and massive attack. a stunning debut - limited vinyl release - don’t miss.

“ode to eskapism” is dedicated to all of those that use techno as a way in to escapism. to those that use techno as a mental diversion from the perceived unpleasant, boring, arduous, scary, or banal aspects of daily life. those that cannot subsist on the scanty satisfaction they can extort from reality alone. those that feel the need to dissociate from reality in order to experience it. to all of those that emerges recreated, stronger and full of life after a weekend escape into techno. the label bond is the brainchild of swedish techno dj and producer petter b. the concept of the label is “music by djs for djs”. the label focuses on releasing tracks that enable the dj, rather than the producer, to be creative. it is based on that special bond which is created every time a dj combines tracks, loops and sounds live into something new and unique.

illusion recordings is bringing an absolute stomper from the appropriately titled ny stomp with a track called >the ny house track<. a massive track inspired by new york, jersey house music and designed to get every party rocking! ny stomp is a special project by gerd (clone/4lux) who made this track to add to his live set with no intention to release it. it was just a cut made for his live sets and done as an hommage to the early days of ny and nj house. however after playing this at a party from the illusion guys in leeds he got tortured by the guys to make him release it... and lets be honest... it would have been a shame if these cuts never made it to vinyl! one the flip side a slightly more introvert track calles >can you feel it<. on remix duty its nicholas and dj aakmael both doing an excellent job by smoothening things up and take things a bit deeper. proper house music!

bristols local hero kowton contributes to teals fourth release - the slowly grooving house gem that is dirty little bomb slowly evolves through cold, industrial soundscapes yielding one of the more introvert yet danceable tracks seen on teal so far. the mysterious player rivet reworks kowtons gem on the flipside - cranking up the tempo, layering lush synth hits and shifty groove - power moves!

lando is known for teaming up with low limit as lazer sword, a future hip-hop from group from the bay area. his solo tracks are freaked out juggernauts of electronic music, primarily experimenting with various mutations of house. dense instrumentation, analog synth and drum machine work, complex melodies, and creeping basslines are pooled from his musical obsessions with 90s rnb, classic house, freestyle, garage, detroit techno, early synthesizer music, timbaland, and… to be honest, everything in between.

professor genius from italians do it better fame (in real life jorge velez) and speculator also known as grackle, galaxy toobin, one half of smackulator or just william burnett... and they are now pg&s. pg&s has paired up to create some very personal tracks... there are three collaborations and 2 solo tracks of both. going somewhere between trippy kraut rock to more psychedelic disco. our favorite is the powerful introvert kraut disco work out called jive. limited release on the new label from greece!

time to express is pleased to present the first results of the collaboration between italian producer donato dozzy and colognes finest, cio d or. both artists have recorded seperately for labels such as wagon repair, railyard, aquaplano, motoguzzi, broque and treibstoff. a great three track ep with dirty minimalized techno killers that must be played out loud for full effect! somehow reminiscent to the good old days from minimal unit moebius and plastikman tracks.... when minimal techno wasnt about pleasing the crowd (which it did after all). 3 tracks with deep sub bass driven grooves and distant melodies that move in spirals in and out of the mix with a moving and twisting beat. it s sour and dirty, with a touch of that particular blend of mesmerising techno both producers are known for. the peter van hoessen mix is more upfront and in your face. mental introvert techno tracks that will take the party to another level! tip!
