vinyl only , after a short break unison wax returns with a brand new four-track collection of music from the bossman himself, diego krause. the berliner took a year off in 2016, concentrating on other projects and letting the label have a rest, but now he’s back with a refined sound. unison wax embodies a more sophisticated aesthetic, with warm analogue hues and subtle textures to push things forward a little. after all, we couldn’t come back from a break without progressing, huh?! first out of the blocks is ‘nihilate’, which helps introduce this updated unison wax sound, crisp beats lock us into a groove in conjunction with a dainty selection of analogue effects and a funky little b-line. diego carefully adds new elements as the track progresses, keeping you interested right until the end. next is the title track, ‘rituals’, which kicks off with an insistent bassline and spellbinding percussion that keeps you gripped from the off. he throws in some claps to add energy and muted pads, which slowly rise to prominence, giving the track an emotive atmosphere which wraps itself around you. one for the eternal dreamers… flip the record over for side b and ‘dysfunction’, which turns things grimy. marauding beats and bass conspire to create a morose atmosphere. diego’s penchant for super sharp beats is present here again, and the energy builds slowly but surely. a new layer creeps in every few bars and sucks you right into the track’s lair. expertly done, and impossible to resist, this is darkside pressure at its best. ‘eudaimonia’ rounds things off, with more deep grooves. initially propelled by minimal percussion, the track really gets going when more beats are added. it maintains a laid back feeling and, while the drums are solid, the atmosphere is mostly quite soft with swirling pads keeping things light in the top end. when they fall away towards the end of the track we have a rather gnarly close to the composition, as the beats and bass take over. and there it is, the welcome return of unison wax – smooth and refined for 2017…

taken from gabe gurnsey’s upcoming debut solo lp, ‘physical’ on phantasy, eyes over zones in on a proto-hacienda groove that’s undistilled militant funk, loose and lucid elements of electro and dub-laden drums conspire to offer an alluring landscape for gurnsey’s restless vocals. the harder-hitting extended dub takes more precise aim at the dancefloor, allowing each disparate, analogue element more room to unfold across a throbbing baseline.

danyb (of best-selling busted edits fame) kicks off another affair of the art, with jupiter dance. spring-boarding from the jupiter dance radio show, which takes a regular tour through the lesser known avenues of synth pop, space disco & italo here we have three worked up renditions of awesome 80s obscurities, deutsch new wave, french synth experiments & new age pieces which conspire to deliver a very welcome selection, for aficionados and ass-shakers alike.

skeleton recordings are proud to announce the release of the skeleton xxv project to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the label which originally launched in 1992. this is a five part collectors edition to celebrate 25 years of skeleton recordings. volumes 01 to 04 sleeve artwork when put together will form a big piece of artwork of the revamped original skeleton recordings logo that will look good on any wall. volume 05 will be a picture disc. the full digital album will only become available once all five volumes have been released. the project has taken just over 12 months to put together and is definitely something for the collectors. it has been generating quite a buzz within the underground circuit the closer it gets to release date and has been getting some really good support from the likes of bailey, storm and ray keith to name a few.

the second release on modern cathedrals includes an original mix by altstadt echo supplemented with remixes crafted by donor, luigi tozzi, and asop. the inclusion of donor’s remix represents a continued effort to link together the detroit and brooklyn scenes, while the luigi tozzi remix connects modern cathedrals to the ghastly, dark styles of techno that italian artists have become so respected for. as a core member of the modern cathedrals team and a primary force behind the label’s event series, asop’s remix is the very first public release of work by this incredible new detroit-based artist. but while the artist names change from record to record, the philosophy does not. we continue in a desperate attempt to generate meaning during the short spasm of a lifetime we are given in a world that seems to conspire to prevent this effort’s realization. this situation might be inescapable, but through the rejection of complacency and dogma, we can approach our end with the bitter comfort that we were at least willing to be honest about our situation.

what better way to follow up andy meechams (chicken lips / emperor machine) huge gino fontaine originals than a duo of remixes from balearic chieftains pete herbert & stratus as one half of reverso 68 alongside phil mison, and in his own right pete has been behind a ton of mesmerising sunrise and sunset workouts, and he’s more than delivered here - crisp and club ready percussion, those stark punk-funkin’ guitars and his trademark synth work all conspire to cook up a storm on the floor martin jenkins and mat anthonys stratus outfit (remember their superb *spring tide ep* on aficionado last year ?) take a pop at the sublime konkondo on the flip and what a masterpiece it is ! a ten minute, utterly absorbing and expertly evolving piece, which flips the darker elements of the original into a mesmerising, cinematic, early 90s style balearic epic.

although delivering a mysterious & scantily clad 12 inch is hardly a novel concept these days, we must confess to being more than a little excited when we heard this one! it is undercover time again, and we’re sworn to secrecy, of course… what we do know, however is that this mighty release is an absolute dancefloor sureshot! made up of two long, pitched down and utterly mesmerising workouts kicking off with itaque putant, a mid-tempo, tripped out disco number that marries elements of techno, late 80s balearia and more than a nod towards classic red zone dubs. super low subs and bags of melodic atmosphere conspire to provide a perfect dancing under the stars moment. on the flip timento is a lysergic, tribalistic epic, stitching together a series of ethnic ingredients and overlaying some seriously transcendent modern synth candy. building into the soundtrack for a full blown shamanic vision! a serious platter then, and when the music is this good, who needs more?

with over ten years production experience, the proverbial bar of expectations has been set high for smash tv aka holger zilske and kai preussner and their forthcoming release steroids to heaven. first up on this celebrated ep is steroids to heaven, a glitchy tech house number with an astonishingly catchy bassline, reticulated with a mass of synthesized effects and an intriguing vocal sample. pitched drums and a grooving, energetic bassline conspire with one another in made for eachother driving the track forward alongside a sliced vocal sample which, after a beautifully housy breakdown, is given its full debut. judging from this fine release, smash tv is still in top form, ready and able to set the bar of expectations even higher for 2011.

stunning italian disco concept album about robots from 1978, what more do you need to know? wild percussion, eccentric vocals and strange effects conspire with glorious results on one of those hard to come by disco albums with not one filler track to be found. this was the source material for the much hyped >robolove< edit by loud e on ambassadors reception. amazing artwork too.

venezuelan producer argenis brito graces us with his sophomore cadenza release, the imminent ep. renowned for his role as lead vocalist for senor coconut as well as his collaborative projects with artists as decorated as luciano, pier bucci, jay haze and samim, the multi-talented argenis solo work comes with some pedigree. resident in berlin since 2004, his distinctly latin interpretation of house is a step ahead of the game, with prior releases on junion and cadenza animating floors with that inimitable south american fervour. title track >imminent< is a playful affair,with bouncing bass and a shimmering synth melody dancing around the kick. intoxicating and funked up, the melodies call and respond in a fragmented conversation while pulsing echoed tones add depth to the mix. >mind body soul< stutters into a complex percussive pattern, coloured by warm keys and blocks of bass tone. funky is the word, as a distorted vocal directs bodies to the floor. deep and immersive, dark melodic synth movements plunge us into a sweaty and cathartic house hole. on the flip, >lolipop< combines electro and house elements into one cheeky dance with the devil. bubbling bass flows under cascading melodic synth, as fat percussion crunches around sharp vocal bursts. slick and futuristic, this is for that time of the night where looking backwards is not an option.closing the ep, >unreality< is as deep as they come. warm and uncompromising key stabs pulsate over a no-nonsense bass drive, accented by harmonising clav tones. living up to its moniker, the resonant melodies and hypnotic pace conspire to transcendental effect.
