in 2019 rapper/producer 38 spesh put together a compilation album to celebrate the 25th anniversary of a seminal year in hip-hop, 1994. it features the biggest names in the underground like benny the butcher, conway, rome streetz, eto, flee lord, elcamino, che noir, hus kingpin, daniel son, and many more. they all rap over popular beats from 1994, which are actually all remakes by spesh. then in late 2020 spesh followed up his well-received comp with a sequel titled 1995 (of course). however, with this instalment of the series, spesh decided he would make it a solo mixtape on which he raps on classics from 1995. to make it official, he had the project presented and mixed by his longtime affiliate dj green lantern.

colin potter is a sound engineer and musician currently based in london. he has worked within the fields of electronic and experimental music for over 35 years, collaborating with the likes of current 93, the hafler trio, organum, andrew chalk, and most notably as a key part of nurse with wound alongside steven stapleton. he started the esteemed icr (integrated circuit recordings) label in 1981 releasing a clutch of wonderful home recordings of his own, over half a dozen small run cassette only releases. ‘the where house?’ was recorded in 1981 at ic studio, a converted wash house in sutton on the forest in north yorkshire. the album was self-released on cassette that same year via icr. this expanded double lp edition features all 13 tracks from the original tape on vinyl for the first time plus 4 bonus tracks. ‘the where house?’ is a prime example of early uk post-punk/industrial electronic music. “combining dub, electro, and krautrock rhythms with psychedelic, kosmische noise in multiple mutations ranging from almost pop-wise songcraft to horizon-scanning motorik flights,” says boomkat. most of the damage was done by colin using guitars, synths, sequencers, drum machines, percussion, and modified toy keyboards with fairly primitive 4-track recording equipment. he was assisted on some of the tracks by stephan jadd-parry (guitar, percussions), jon caffery (guitar, bass, e-bow, percussion) and nick jackson (synth). all songs have been remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the record is sleeved in a replica of the original cassette artwork by jonathan coleclough. every copy includes a double sided postcard insert with notes from colin.

“uncle tony’s coloring book” was originally released in 2007 and for years available exclusively on cd. since it s release, utcb gained a cult following, one that grew substantially after blockhead made the album available digitally in 2015. the demand increased for a proper vinyl release of the album and after 10 years it’s finally here.

it really feels like we (aka mad mats & tooli) have been around way longer than 5 1/2 years with local talk, but it s really true what they say, time flies when you re having fun! from what started as a somewhat simple and almost primitive urge to create a small house imprint has now grown into a much bigger affair. we really tried hard to keep the label from getting stuck in any genre (remember 90s house?) and to always keep the local talk relevant, curious, diverse and with a healthy dose of underground mentality. from our very first release with bassfort s excellent moon shadow in the summer of 2011, we had a crystal clear vision of what local talk should represent...house music in any way, shape or form! over the years we released soulful, disco, jack, afro, vocal, deep, jazz, tech, latin, old school, acid, uk, berlin, new jersey, detroit and of course chicago inspired house music. if it made us bump...we put it out! this brings us up to today and about +80 releases later. we thought about how we best could sum up these first 5 1/2 years and immediately the image of blaze s classic album 25 years later popped up. besides the fact that it s an amazing album cover it also a good representation when different musical genres fuse together. it s not strictly a house album but just as well a r&b, reggae and soul album. this fusion and variation of house sounds is something that we ve tried to capture on our 5 1/2 years later compilation, split into two parts. on part 2 you ll find a high energy disco rub from parisian s3a, a truly deep and soulful vocal jam from boddhi satva & sly johnson, a deep uk garage production from smbd (aka simbad), a dark and electronic affair from toto chiavetta (yoruba) and finally a musical acid number with that magical bristol touch from newcomer marcel lune. all in all we think we got most angles covered and hopefully this album will make you spread that chalk on the dance floor and get down...local talk style

the detroit music community has outposts in nearly every major city, and vancouver, british columbia is no exception. this ep represents the connection of two such artists, detroit native, josh garrett, who currently resides in vancouver and runs the subspec label, and rennie foster, a stalwart of the underground, who has spent a quarter of his life in tokyo, but born in bc and now living back there, in vancouver. rennie has released on a myriad of detroit labels, such as transmat, teknotika, soiree, subject detroit, wallshaker, and motech. josh and rennie met in vancouver, only since rennies recent return, and realizing they were of the same tribe, immediately began to collaborate on a number of projects, now including this limited run, double a-side, record, chalk full of dj friendly techno trax, firmly rooted in the motor city sound, yet unique enough to be a contributor, not just another imitator.

endlich als lp-vinyl wiederveröffentlicht! im original 1978 auf dem label joint international als us-pressung veröffentlicht, wurden die bänder nach london zum legendären mastering experten kevin metcalfe geschickt, der eine komplett neue Überspielung für greensleeves anfertigte. das album wurde in randys, channel one und den chalk farm studios aufgenommen und bei king tubbys mit dem finalen mix ausgestattet, am mischpult dabei clive chin, lancelot maxie mckenzie, sid bucknor und prince jammy.

irishman john daly takes a rare break from his one track label and delivers his magic to the tanstaafl planets imprint. floating house and spacey techno on the b-side that seamlessly merge daly and tanstaafls aesthetics, while the a-side delivers a pulse raising new fusion of jacking swing and dubby synths. john daly cant do much wrong!

nofitstate chalk up their 3rd release with the much talked about swedish duo mr. tophat and art alfie providing ‘vretis’, an elongated groove fit to bursting with tension thanks to its extended filtered intro. ‘locked groove’ provides the remix on the flip, opting for a more blissfully melodic approach for those early morning sessions whilst ’takelant’ rounds things off in fine style with a low down and dirty slice of machine-phunk.

punks jump up are joe & david. part english, part swedish london based duo who s rebel sound began in 2002. pju shared the bill and were plugged by james murphy, headman, radio 1, freeform 5 , simian mobile disco, klaxons, tim sweeney, filthy dukes, shakes... while recording in stockholm they tracked down the legend chalk jaxon, very rarely seen in daylight. after hours of chasing & following up leads that led to nowhere a glimmer of jaxsonswhite shoe set the sparks flying at the disco, could it be?!?
