side a: palace of change. written in 2011 this one is from the vaults, it came at a time when i wanted change in my music to break away from being diamond eye and move to a more upbeat and uplifting sound, while retaining my signature spiritual and thoughtful approach to music. side b: auf deutsch. an out there rhythm structure that encompasses the half time approach to techno, a contrast to the a side, this has a more lean back and shoulder movement groove, suitable for either side, but can t have light without shadow.

black drop effects is named after the black drop effect, the dark bridge which appears to join two almost-touching bodies against bright light: famously, venus becoming teardropshaped on its transit across the sun, just before it moves into the darkness of space. all four tracks on this ep from italian-born producer palese are named after scientific aspects of the planet venus, confirming that industrial can most certainly still be intriguing. the ep surprises you with twists and turns, defying any stereotypical assumption of techno being all uniform monotony.

one of las smartest young voices says the la times…which the artist suspects, may just be a covert way of saying la is dumb. “open” mike eagle wouldnt terribly mind, being born and raised in chicago where the painful winters and his uppity grandparents kept him inside as a youth. he spent his formative years watching alternative music happen on mtv and hoping to one day be able to audition for the native tongues. as a young adult after graduating with a degree in psychology, he did the next best thing and moved to los angeles, joining the project blowed collective where he made music and toured with busdriver, aceyalone, abstract, nocando, and more. he has also gained notoriety in the world of comedy by being invited by professional funny people (paul f. tompkins, hannibal buress, matt besser/ucb) to rap at their shows. he would like to be raps kurt vonnegut but recognizes that he would first have to create something as iconic as the four-stroke illustration of an anus. he practices by releasing rap albums that delight, entertain, and confuse.

prostitutes – aka cleveland, ohio marauder james donadio - flexes a whole new set of muscles on nouveauree, his first work for night school. sticking to an all-analogue machinebased strategy, donadio has warped and stripped his palette to create a juddering force majeure across 5 tracks and 28 minutes of power play.

last year tornado wallace touched down at the esp institute with his thinking allowed ep, a slab of wax that proved pivotal in his musical aesthetic, beautifully complimenting our catalogue. he ups the ante further with circadia, his second 3-track ep that riffs on esp themes whilst sophisticatedly amplifying their character. the title track lays trance-like arpeggiated vocals over thunderous tropical toms, opening up into an epic group chant. time of nectar coasts along, blanketing us with soft pads and soothing pan pipes before jonny nashs palm-muted stratocaster makes its cameo. the essential house jam on the b-side, soft light, will no doubt pump its way through dance floors this summer, dont sleep!

on *secret weapons* lay-far presents three tracks that celebrate an era of when disco, jazz, afro and rare groove ruled the dance floors. first up is *quality hours* which to us is the perfect nugget for the early afternoon, mid-day session or late night summer parties. on the flip is *saaba dub*, the sort of light and loose disco-soul groove influenced by dub and last but not least *prime climate* ends things in a slightly more rare groove-ish way.
