wedish born christian smith is sitting firmly at the top of the electronic dance music industry. his outstanding productions over the years have set the bench mark high, releasing on a collection of the industry s most respected labels such as drumcode, cocoon, bedrock, minus and his very own tronic. 2016 has been a busy year so far for christian, his tronic label party series has been holding events worldwide, including the bpm festival and sonar off week, and an ever growing catalogue of releases not forgetting his most recent ep force majeure released in july on drumcode which immediately entered beatports techno top 10, straight in at no.8. this september, christian will release his third solo album titled input-output on his own tronic imprint. consisting of 11 original tracks, each one embodies christians message of creating real techno, with powerful percussions and melodic basslines throughout. input/output is an outstanding production offering some of the best driving techno you can expect from an artist like christian, with his trademark style incorporated in every track. it takes you on a journey, through a variation of sounds and textures, which still manage to cater to everyone s musical palate. synthesizers work their way throughout, alongside dark atmospheric harmonies and haunting vocals or that pounding kick drum in some of the heavier tracks. it never disappoints!

after a few digital releases, lunar convoy delivers a masterfully executed debut ep to inaugurate newcomer belgian imprint norite’s vinyl series. counting northern electronics, hypnus records, semantica and prologue among his main influences, lunar convoy’s first effort is utterly coherent while not failing to evoke a plurality of emotions. imbued with sacred atmospheres, infiltrated with mysticism, ritualistic melodies and aesthetically charged rhythms, outer rim territories is a testimony of his love for deeper realms. on the a side, seswenna’s trancey lead synth and pumping bass opens the ep with an excursion towards distant planets. ryloth ventures into darker fields, scattered with whirring and saturated analog complains and haunted by ancient voices. on the flip side, eriadu sets a more mystical pace with syncopated kicks and floating eerie pad, to embark on a parallel dimension. allen’s take on ryloth is symptomatic of the us-based producer, speeding things up and offering a stripped down version filled with devastating hi-hats and firing toms to end this solid 4-tracker with the hypnotic-yet-effective sound that got him signed on attic music, m_rec ltd, polegroup or more recently granulart recordings. with such a captivating release, lunar convoy has set a high bar for the upcoming releases and left us under his sway.

death on the balcony s ‘tides of fortune has been the subject of relentless -track id- requests pleading us to reveal the name of the artist and track since be-at-tv streamed the bpm performance of lee burridge and matthew dekay back in 2015. joined on the ep by three other tracks there s a cohesive feel to the two friends vibe. mysterious melodies drift in and out of the hypnotic grooves on rivers of sound that could have soundtracked a star trek episode from the original series. 1700 miles is delicate and deep with a simple infectious vocal sample. don t be deceived though. when played on a club system the kick drum and bassline draw you in while the atmospheric elements send the listener to otherworldly places. we feel rather privileged as this track is mark’s first solo outing from dotb under his new moniker “caramelli” and dotbs first full length on all day i dream. mark’s back in the band for memories of the future which completes the release with its funky bass and trippy ambience. close your eyes and be transported.

the second release on the vinyl only series of apes go bananas finally drops. the label is the new imprint from steve bug and clé, who together make up the production team for the releases. as with the well-received first ep, all we have is straight-up, no-nonsense, dance floor-filling house tracks. lead cut ‘all we have settles right into the groove with crisp and funky percussion, chi-town chords and amazing vocal samples. its got peak time written all over it. she cargo makes its influences pretty clear via the title, and the track certainly references some of the iconic sounds of the home of house. thick, rubbery bass lines, squiggly synths and firing percussion combine to deliver a suitable a homage to the windy city. ‘ape parade is built from some similar materials, but the chords are a little more lush and deep - synth strings and keys add a sense of the epic, and everything is tied together with a sick kick / snare / hat pattern. three modern killers for the floor, infused with the spirit of classic house.

the french techno party thrower is proud to present its new label called blocaus series. the first release is produced by their talented resident anetha, real icon of the blocaus crew. the ep consists of three driving, hypnotic and banging tracks inspired by 90s rave cuts. the dutch artist stranger contributes a massive remix, making the whole ep hyper effective and catchy. from the trippy and hypnotic interstellar and towards infinity on the a-side, to the straight banging up leftlover love and stranger s remix on the b-side, this debut release is just an incipient illustration of what can be expected from this young and promising label.

the fourth episode of d.a.n.c.e. (detector for advanced neutron capture experiments), the various artists series of attic music, presents only italian artists. on a side unc shows us his vision of techno with an obsessive sound track. distorted drums and dark pads for the second track by assalti industriali (luciano lamanna and cosimo damiano). on b side pvs writes a real journey with a ten minutes track where 4/4 and broken beat meet pads and melody.

berlin-based dj and techno producer savas pascalidis has been steadily making his mark in underground electronic music circles since his first releases in the mid-90s. born in south germany and later moved to berlin, the well-traveled dj has been among the restless and classically minded members of the dance music community over the last decades. he developed skills that led him into producing records and made a name for himself with a series of dark, loopy and groove driven dancefloor orientated techno music. pure and simple. his releases earned him a reputation for being something of a dance music purist.

inspired by many of the industry’s pioneers, such as, ricardo villalobos, masomenos, marc antona, rhadoo, seuil, cabanne, petre inspirescu and danny tenaglia, to name but a few, counrad has been strongly influenced by deep and meaningful techno, since he began his plight in the industry. music has always been at the forefront, for this italian dj/producer , and the inwave and counrad series labels boss relishes the challenge of crafting techno that reveals itself gradually to the more discerning listener, fusing a multitude of grooves from contrasting musical styles, with a combination of sexy rhythms, subtle textures and emotive melodies. in this first release for metroline limited, counrad showcases the full spectrum of his versatile production skills. the title track underwater is a full on 15 minutes epic chunky minimal monster that just keeps on building. this amazing piece of work takes the listener on a journey that starts with hypnotic minimalism and finishes with some intricate trippy techno. on the flipside you can find the dark and percussive peak time tech-house grooves of particle collsisions and some uber-cool modern machine funk minimalism in the shape of the closing track synapse.

the sixth release in this series of eight opens up with alexander kowalskis remix of lydia to the edge of panic on the a-side. kowalskis version is a pounding techno monster, with a heaving baseline and delayed chords, hinting at a more sinister dimension beyond the edge of panic. trolly routes (aka. oscar mulero) remix of miscellaneous pt. 7 on a-2, lulls and hypnotizes with an acid-tinged interpretation of the original track, that nods to the plus 8 school of techno. the b-side kicks off with jeff rushins remix of little green apples, pairing the spacious and beautifully gloomy background atmosphere of the original track with a heavier version of its rhythmic framework. the final track gives us the re-mastered original version of confort corpse, which displays christian morgensterns uncanny dedication to exploration and his love for the 80s.

repress finally in! the second release of the attic laqs series is signed by the italian duo boston 168. the ep presents three acid techno tracks matched by some psychedelic and melodic touches, where the old school meets the modern sound in a perfect hypnotic flow.

most excellent unlimiteds series of 45s celebrating the 45th year of danny krivits career continues with a blast of two heavyweight cuts that, to borrow the parlance of the era from which they came, are bonafide sure shots. wood, brass & steels *funkanova* a jazz-funk masterpiece and loft classic that was liberally sampled in the house world (black science orchestra, terrence parker, the bucketheads), is pared down to its most joyous elements. from the intro, a typical krivit maestros detail of an opening bass slide prefacing hands-in-the-air cascades of iconic horns and keys, to the echo of the last notes, its a perfect edit immaculately tailored for dj usage. the flip delves deeper into new york city dance history with a rough and rugged beat- down of a proto-disco, b-boy classic: boobie knight & the universal ladys * sex*. displaying his usual knack of going straight for the jugular, krivit takes the songs siren-call-to-the-dance floor horn riff as his starting point, peeling off another layer to the floor-shaking bass and drums before bringing it all back to the top with a perfectly placed drum roll that will have flash disciples fiending for doubles. solidifying this blazing double-sider is the fact that neither of these essential cuts has ever appeared in seven-inch form. another most excellent unlimited sure shot!
