fancy humans leigh morgan has been knocking around a while, running urban torque recordings for the best part of a decade throughout the naughties. having reached a satisfactory level of noodle shinnery on his baldy bonce, he has put down the scalp polish and finally started making music. project pickle is his second solo ep. project pickle includes three original tracks, nailing his colours to the mast, dilly of a pickle begins with a clear indication of pickle preference, pie on the sly the accompanying dish, and almost champion a nod to the ultimate disappointment in food related release punnery. we asked chocky to come on board for remix duties, once he d told us which was his favourite pickle, his answer we ll take to our graves. chocky has been winning plaudits for his deep dubby jazzy grooves through artful division, nature soul music, roots for bloom and audio parallax etc, and here he s on great form with, er, a deep dubby jazzy re-imaging, lovely stuff.

rediscovered 80’s british acid house gem ‘cortina kidz’ recently made a serious impact on andy butler’s mr. intl with remixes from factory floor and juan maclean & tim sweeney. hot on the heels, moscow’s lipelis’ steps in to remix with striking results. pitchfork enthused of the recent reissue being “a chilly acid-house track operating the influence of both soft cell and the specials,’ xlr8r as “drenched in dark and sleazy overtones, the track encapsulates a downtrodden time in london”, while ransom note noted “cortina kidz is more than just an old skool oddity- it s a banger that s stood the test of time”. originally recorded on london’s stoke newington road in 1987, produced by a young tim brinkhurst ahead of his imminent record deal with virgin records with his band soho, and long before his current role as manager of mercury prize winners, young fathers, ‘cortina kidz’ remained undiscovered and the eccentric spoken word overlay and weird lead vocal made it very unlike the prevailing dance music sound of the time. leonid lipelis explains that “since it’s a reissue of a relatively unknown record it gave me a certain freedom of expression (when it’s something well known and classic you re likely to produce something more serious). i came up with more of a pop song, structured with a vocoder for the main version and had fun playing with vocal samples for the dub mix, paying homage to the 80s sound in both.- lipelis’ recent release on lies records has gained him support from four tet to dimitri from paris. he also runs a side project for hardware jams called tmo and co-runs low budget family records.

physical therapy makes his debut on spencer parker s work them records with a medley of club focused techno cuts. growing up in new jersey, physical therapy later moved to chicago, then new york, before finally settling in berlin where he s quickly built a profile as a stand out dj/producer. baktadust comes in the form of two tracks: the fast tempo main mix that combines peppy piano riffs and metallic effects, as well as a slower fried mix featuring cleaner chords and a sultry bassline. push me then demonstrates robust percussion, a rumbling low-end and eerie tremolo atmospherics before shadowy echoes and off kilter kicks conclude the release in spasm.

brand new experimental-techno label gothic romance, located in vicenza releases his first ep by gothic (alessandro de re & stefan battistetti, label founders and main label artists) called reims, included a special rework by xpress. reims is ispirated by gregorian chant, masked of a dark and melanchonic melody, aggressive and paranoid beats. xpress rework was born for the dancefloor, its composed by original beat parts united to a 4/4 deep violent kick and a paranormal synth voice inspired by cosmic and aliens sound.

gelert takes a short journey from nant peris up to the peak that is elidir fawr. we don’t know a great deal about elidir but elidir was a giant of a man. the 4th highest peak of the 3000’s is set at 3029ft (923m) - 3000.4 delivers more nippiness with luv*jam inviting tropical heat master damian schwartz, and new nipster jack beavers to the team. plus bob is on hand again as a consistent member of the rucksack club. join the rucksack club and collect all 14 peaks along the way, keeping an eye out for the secret peaks beyond. thanks to andrew devine @ysju.

new york coterie sheik ‘n’ beik line up the next 12” in a string of successful releases including legowelt & xosar under their now defunct xamiga guise, jeffrey scott and label owner rechulski. enlisted for their 7th record is the japan based mister saturday night and 1080p affiliate keita sano. with a strong affinity to analogue sound and old school audio processing, sano renders personal mind-maps in his work - eclectic and off-kilter productions shot-through with warmth and propelled by potent drums. his latest offering for sheik ‘n’ beik is one fans old and new will relish: a series of 4 warped excursions showcasing sano’s refined and idiosyncratic studio techniques. ‘bypass motion’ kicks things off with a fizzing 909 and a loose-limbed bass pattern set churning under brisk, steely atmospheres. dense in the low-end, ‘child’s play’ then follows up with a hard-nosed groove carried by horror-movie sweeps and distant computerised vocals.

having finally woken from our deep winter slumber, team fancy human shuffle in through the door of 2016, in need of a shave and a coffee, clutching the newly minted test pressing of the first full release from london duo and co-founders lucatwana. the normally work shy combo deliver to you fh003, or under it s more catchier moniker, city droids. if they d have got it done quicker, we might have been able to cash in on the stars wars related hype, but never mind. anywho, city droids takes the form of three originals, beginning with the uplifting funk of city fucking, moving through the tougher and darker grind of droids on roids and ending with a nod to detroit with nobody knows. pleasingly, we also have a fancy human favourite tigerskin on remix duties, with a smooth, driving, hypno re-imaging of droids on roids that hits the nail firmly on the head.

ultratheque pays tribute to glasgow s first ever laser disco and the first dancehall that hifi sean frequented as a teenager. soft cell/the grid analogue keyboard maestro dave ball adds his trademark sound on this solid electro groove making it sound like some lost dub from nyc danceteria days dave himself with skull bandits crank up the electroclash vibes on the remix and turn it into a full on dancefloor onslaught like ultratheque itself was back in those laser-tastic days.

kevin arnemann and daan kemps taped artifact label clocks up its fourth release with a three track offering from outlaw rec boss and key part of the italian serendipity club, namely matthew oh. matthew has previously released on his own label and others like side off, and eloquently marries dub, techno and house into smooth and sensuous sonic landscapes. the opening track psycho hub is an atmospheric and spacious roller with dubbed out drums and pads, coupled with incendiary hi hats urging you along. shroud is seven minutes of slick and spaced out deep techno with liquid synths and clacking hits all racing along and making for a frictionless groove that sucks you right in. finally, get in the fridge slows the tempo down and becomes an even more widescreen and roomy roller with suspensory pads, smeared synths and aqueous sonic details that make you feel like you are floating in sound.
