four youths are exploring unused buildings in a warehouse district when they stumble upon a lone wire running between the buildings. they follow along as it snakes between walls and under gates until they find it connected to a set of speakers.

uncanny valley and permanent vacation are joining forces for an uncanny vacation! there has always been a lively exchange between dresden and munich and both labels are known for releasing a wide variety of music so it was only natural to team up for a joint release. the record starts off with permanent vacation-regular and uk-veteran dmx krew and his “astro logical” which is as sharp and crisp as electro can go. the bass line strikes hard but he also squeezes some great melancholic synth lines out of his machines. after that, uncanny valley’s sandrow m finally gives access to the much in demand live version of “prayervan”, a tune that everybody has been singing along during his live sets. on the flipside, jacob korn (who already released on both labels) hands in “eieiei” which rises on a percussion-heavy drum basement to a discoid house stomper thanks to an irresistible sample straight from an obscure flea market find. last but not least, drvg cvltvre from the netherlands delivers a tropical house jam. “see you again” is riding on a funky disco bass line and creates a warm and cosy atmosphere with a whole bag of sound ideas. alexander dorn aka credit 00 adds his graphical talents to the record’s sleeve with a brilliant tribute to 1990s adventure video games.

if youre going to launch a label, it pays to hit the ground running with your first release. thats exactly what the people behind falstaff have done with this impressive debut. it features tracks from longtime pals max d and hashman deejay. the formers track, shoegaze, continues the washington d.c producers recent trend of delivering tracks that defy easy categorization. this one is a blend of ghetto-tech, deep house and dreamy chords, with cut-up samples of various descriptions riding an urgent groove. hashman deejays samba is a little more orthodox, sitting somewhere between deep detroit techno and humid samba house. its a thing of rare beauty.

365 million years ago a meteorite crashed with tremendous force in the middle of a land mass that much later would be called sweden, creating one of her largest lakes. the area around this lake, siljan, has always been an epicenter of swedish folklore, with many tales of beautiful but dangerous creatures of the ancient forests and deep vales. perhaps, then, it s no coincidence that the skies over siljan later became the focus of unexplainable sightings, or that small societies appeared, claiming strong indications of extraterrestrial activities on the bottom of the lake itself. the tales may change over time, but the mysterious lake remains the same. and now the time has come for a new tale from siljan. producer colleagues hans berg and johanna knutsson have spent long periods of time in a studio by this lake. feeling a bit like aliens themselves with their blinking and bleeping music machines, the label name ufo station recordings came naturally. little raver ep is the first release, and throughout the three tracks you can clearly sense the contrast between the scenic landscape and sounds inspired by space and alien technology: shimmering ethereal melodies over classic, very fulfilling drum machines. the melancholic singing of space whales over deep and bubbly analog basses. the little raver ep is a house music ufo destined to arouse wonder and astonishment on any dance floor.

the swedish trance duo son kite is back, releasing their first album in ten years. and they are on a mission. *dancing is a very important ritual. our main mission as artists is to make people get into this trance state*, they say. since the release of their third album *colours* in 2004, marcus henriksson and sebastian mullaert have been focusing on their other project minilogue, touring the world and gaining increasing popularity in the house and techno scene. with *prisma*, released on november 17th and consisting of seven tracks made between 2007 and 2014, the duo leaps back to the endless energy and enthusiasm they felt when they first started making music together in 1996. and back to what it is all essentially about, according to the two musicians: getting into the all-important dance ritual and reaching the trance state.

the boys of mappey again achieved to compose a very picturesque sound telling the story of mr. miyagis wisdoms.a technical and yet precise fighting scenario between miyagi and a muk yan jong (wooden dummy) opens up this track using a warm wooden percussions and a solid human kick.

a lot of water has passed under the bridge since the release of etienne jaumet’s night music, dating from october 2009. his hypnotizing music and enchanting live performances put him directly on the map. it’s just him who is in control of his ship. he moves without complexes from his saxophone to his drum machine (his beloved tr 808) while turning knobs modulating synths, and sending his voice through an echo.la visite, etienne’s brand new album, more luminous and jazzy than its predecessor, has been composed and produced within a two month period in the versatile studio. it became a piece of introspection, mentally as well as physically. in the title track, for which flop wrote the text, we hear etienne travelling through the inside of a body, fantastic voyage style.it is always surprising to see a record taking shape. etienne would arrive at the studio without any precise idea in head, approaching his work rather intuitively. he works standing up, which brings a very different energy than being seated behind a computer polishing up every detail. he is in total mastery of his set-up, ready to capture that short-lived moment of true creation. the only use a computer has for him, is to record his experiments - afterwards being mixed by jerome caron (blackjoy).in between night music and la visite, etienne has not been lazy. not only has he done numerous collaborations (amongst others with joakim, richard pinhas, francois & the atlas mountain) and picked up djing, he has also recorded a new zombie zombie album (rituels d’un nouveau monde) with cosmic neman, as well as the soundtrack loubia hamra. and he worked with artist felicie d estienne d orves on the installation satori. at this very moment, etienne and his saxophone are still part of the tour of james holden.

intelligent communication. since 1967, astronomers have been receiving and cataloging very precisely timed radio pulses coming from sources they call pulsars. they have long assumed these to be natural sources, exotic spinning stars that emit laser-like radio beams that sweep through space much like lighthouse signal sequences. highly regular flashes and complex signal ordering are produced through intelligent modulation of their beam s intensity and direction of polarization. more significantly, through their seemingly purposeful geometrical alignments, pulsars appear to be conveying a coherent message. are these beacons from an intelligent origin? and are they warning beacons to warn us against the next shockwave that comes of the active galactic nucleus ore want they attack us? it might be prudent to consider whether we are talking about friends or foes.....mike storm.
