gospel disco time again!!!! after the sucess of -the power of you re love- we deceded to pull out a couple more of our gospel disco dancefloor favorites. elbernita -twinkie- clark-terrell ( who was in the the clark sisters before going solo) recorded this beast for the lp ye shall receive power in 1980-81 for armen boladian s sound of gospel records out of detroit (a sub of the mighty westbound records). both tracks featured on the lp only so desperatly need some 45 action. i m not going to try and sell you this one with tales of its history all you need to do is drop the needle (or press the little play icon)..... straight up monster dancefloor destructor.

super rare (pretty much unknown) mid tempo vocal modern soul / disco floater with a great sweet soul flip. i have been looking for this one for a long while, its got that outsider soul lo-fi vibe that i love. remember and always check the flip, the ballad goes double time near the end and is one for the more sophisticated dance-floors

this disco funk banger was discovered reasonably late in the game on the deepfunk scene. vivian lee s big powerful vocal over the pushy backing is what its all about, straight to the point short and sweet dance floor killer. this sounds better than the o.g which was pretty rough.

one of the best mid-tempo disco raritys (and we mean rare) to come out the deepfunk scene. when keb darge first played party & get on down in the early 2000s in soho it put a few noses out of joint as it was such a departure from the deepfunk driving take no prisoner sound. true to kebs scottish stubbornness and like any real dj he stuck to his guns and created a dance floor favourite. athens of the north bring bab to 12inch for the first time, not only that but its a nice wee extended cut transferred direct from the master tapes. no brainier if you got class.

christopher spraggins & the strange band out of rochester, n.y released a total of one record. a spaced out druggy disco band that had a hint of rick james with a deeper trippier vibe that’s truly unique, reproduced for you here for the first time since 1978. the band was introduced to the world by cleveland unlimited records who still exist to this day, unfortunately as these things go, the record failed to gain sales needed to justify further but a whole lp was recorded, here we bring you the best tracks from that unreleased lp on your favourite format.

athens of the north had a few of these lying around after pressing the henry stone lp so as its a quiet month i thought we would share the remaining copies of this holy grail, be quick, not many and no repress. 200 copies.

stone cold classic, although pastime paradise has been reissued a couple of time on compilations every single reissue has used the rocky lp version which is not nearly as good as the original 7inch cut. as we at athens of the north like to do things right we went back to the sony tape vault and had the 7- version transferred for the first time since the o.g 45 was cut. this 45 sounds fantastic, much stronger then the o.g 45 cut so its a no brainer. on the flip we took one of our favourite track from the lp and introduced it to 7inch for the first time, mambotango is a dreamy sountracky latin disco number i used to spin on warm up duty, very new york.

i’ll be honest, i had forgotten about samuel jonathan johnson until i heard theo parrish play it recently. i used to spin the lp years ago but my copy got lost or beat. soon as i heard it i made a call and sorted out the 45, just an amazing solid groove on sweet love, you cant help but feel it. the flip reasons, is the other great track from the same columbia lp my music. first time on 45 for both of these, once they are gone that is it. disco essential!

our second and final release from billy bruner t spoon out of his obscure oil capital record label. if you dance tonight is almost unknown boogie spin your never gonna find, solid. on the flip say yea is an 80s sweet soul ballad years ahead of the pack, i have a soft spot for this one, damn good end of nighter if its been a good one. strictly 500 no repress.

two gold standard musical compositions i wont insult by labelling with a genre. *truth is the key* is one of my favourite tracks period, the arp solo just does it for me in every way. the vocal will be familiar as irene datcher also sang on the james mason lp (who also features on these tracks). *dreamflower* should need no introduction, famously sampled by erykah badus *didnt cha know* and many others. this is a sublime landscape is notable for ryo kawasakis dreamy guitar work, stone cold classic. both sides surprisingly have never graced the 7 inch format until now, absolutely essential 45.

first time i heard this track out was d.jing with adrian gibson, booker/manager for the london jazz cafe in its hay day in the early 2000s, i thought it was some crazy obscusre early jacksons 45. i had no idea what it was but i liked it and it stuck with me. as my eyes were on 45 s at the time it passed me by until numero group reissued it on their fabulous soul messengers compilation (essential purchase if you don t own). after quite a bit of badgering rob sevier, co-owner of numero group, let this grace my format of choice, so here we are, both sides first outing as a single.

the unreleased album from 1984 sees the day of light! the final album for keith hudson aka the dark prince of reggae was recorded at tuff gong studio and backed by the wailers! six extended masterpieces of rasta communications. a must have album for the keith hudson fanbase, for roots reggae & the wailers collectors in general, and all the dubheads outernationally!

alex north’s work for ballet, symphony orchestra, television and film continues to stand the test of time almost 25 years after his death. although nominated 15 times for an academy award, it wasn’t until 1986 that he was finally given due recognition when a lifetime achievement oscar was bestowed upon him. but, as this soundtrack lp so amply demonstrates, his pioneering work on streetcar remains one of alex north’s crowning achievements.

as björk continues to make waves in the electronic scene, we are now presented with exclusive remixes by boundary-pushing artists and djs selected by the icelandic artist. the vulnicura remix project will be released in very limited quantities for collectors only, as a series of single-sided etched translucent 12” records including download code, each with their own unique etching & die-­cut vulnicura wound sleeves, designed by m/m (paris).

northside ‘82 is proud to welcome smart bar resident savile to the label for our second release. entitled suffer play, this three track ep imagines an alternate reality where minimal house takes an extended detour through chicago, strapping on the city’s famous jacking percussion for a more robust but equally razor sharp sound. “spaced” opens the record with a jolt of jacking house, pairing a limber bass line with tense percussion and pinpoint vocal samples. “1pm morning” is inviting and warm, a richly crafted environment lit by by resonating bass, wallpapered with sharpened guitar strums, and decorated with jangling percussion and clavinet accents. closer, “recipes from nowhere”, is the dreamiest of them all, letting melodies bubble around the track’s bass line backbone and swaddling listeners in melancholic pads. altogether an exceptional record from one of the city’s brightest young.
