one of the most accomplished and celebrated bands in the field of contemporary, unclassified pop music. almamegretta are masters in combining a wide range of elements such as dub, funk, reggae, world and electronica, all filtered through their own deep southern italian roots. now let’s discover the dub version of ennenne. dub is a unique discipline. a strange and sometimes unpredictable music practice. it was just after the release of ennenne that we decided to take back the multi track recordings and start to rework the music through the mixer. in order to give a new shape to the project, we thought it was a good idea to invite some of the best producers and musicians on the dub scene. following a very natural process, our vision began to take the shape of an international all star event, including contributions from historical dub artists such as adrian sherwood, lee scratch perry, dennis bovell, and actual celebrities of today such as gaudi, vibronics, manasseh, khalab & messmorize, and mario conte one the most interesting producers on the italian experimental scene. a bunch of old and new friends with whom we share the same vision.

since his untimely death at the all too young age of 32 the world has grown to appreciate the work of j dilla even more than when he was alive. there’s an ethereal quality to jay dee’s works, part boom bap but more mellow. mellow, but never soft. and dilla never stopped making beats, his mpc was by his side until the very end. it now resides in the smithsonian. due the prolific nature of his beat making, the world is blessed to have stacks of dilla material – some coming to light even this many years after his passing. in the world of hip hop, no one’s mother is more famous that ma dukes. go ahead, name check chuck d’s mom or chance the rapper’s mom or ti’s mother – without hitting google. and one of the reasons we all know ma dukes is her tireless effort to maintain dilla’s legacy. this release is yet another step in that direction. presented here, from the official ma dukes collection, are 15 works by jay dee from deep in the vaults, being released on vinyl for the first time.

restive plaggona is the music project of the corfu-based artist dimitris doukas –also producing under matriarchy roots, leftina osha and plaggona-. after releasing a series of cassettes in different labels along 2016 and 2017 –including his own several minor promises- “leaving the body” arrives as an electronic composition of beats and synthesizer bodies disguised as a sense of provocation and mystery. each of the seven pieces offers more than a smattering of interesting textures separated by spans of great decline, but a master class of permutations in-between accompanying sounds, stretching rhythms and viscera-and- violence noises. driven by a deeply expressive narrative, restive plaggona makes a strong statement about his post-industrial vision adding technoid inclinations in a delightful dystopian world.

the voices of east harlem were an ensemble of vocalists who for just sunshine records recorded two albums under the direction of leroy hutson and curtis mayfield. “cashing in” is one of their most classic songs, a highly sought after track on original 7” fetches between £40 and £80 on the collectors market. first recorded and released in 1973 it has all the hallmarks of a leroy hutson composition and an established audience that crosses the boundaries of northern, crossover and modern soul. the song is coupled here with “take a stand”, another highly regarded and sought after modern soul room dance floor tracks, never previously released on 7” single until now

sometimes you have to put out a recdord for yourself. i first heard the east of underground lp from malcom catto in the jazzman records office in around 2000, after a couple of years i managed to pick one up for $100 from a soundtrack dealer who did not know what he had. now there is a few bangers on the lp but i have always thought is was the ballads that deserve the shine, so after a chat with egon at now-again i managed to sort out putting my two favorites on 45 for that end of the night slowy. hopeflly a few of you will enjoy this one also.

a strange confluence of sound that sounds part krautrock synth label brain records, part hyperdub. techno haze and synth wormholes with spectacular sound design that has banged at berghain and soundtracked winter night drives. greenspan is known mainly for his work with junior boys and jessy lanza and taraval is a longtime touring member of caribou, but both have released several 12” and eps of electronic exploration over the past few years. inspired by synthesizer minimalists like jd emmanuel, cluster and john carpenter, the two attempted to create a type of dance music with hardware that was indebted to their influences but did not feel intrinsically retrogressive. the idea was to make a type of raw synthesizer and drum machine music that could be listened to beside the hypermodern techno of pearson sound or actress. the cover art is a tribute to a mysterious mural that looms over the hamilton ontario area where the album was recorded. each of the five tracks on the ep were edited down from much longer recording jams which were done with hardware sequencers in real time. the recording was done completely off the floor with no overdubs or added material after the fact.

oraculo records looks to the past in very few occasions and monomen deserves to be one of the exceptions. the norvegian band momonen released back in 2007 one of the best electronic post-punk albums of the beginning of xxi centurty on trust me records, not only for the music quality but because all the band members had only 19 years old at the time. suddenly the band gets dissolved after only 1 ep and 1 album. now, 10 years later, oraculo records proudly recovers the best tracks of their album (+1 one of the previous ep) on a record that will be very searched and valued. all tracks mastered and remastered specially for vinyl by eric van wonterghem at prodam studio (berlin).

paul hester created his cult moon music label in 1997 as a portal for his own productions and sounds. the label was short-lived, with only 3 releases in it s catalogue, all produced by hester himself. those few releases on moon are now highly sought after among house and techno aficionados who are forever seeking that deeper groove. the interesting part of this story, beyond the amazing music that was released, is that there are many other tracks that never saw the light of the day, thus leaving the full moon story untold. roll on to the year 2000, hester unleashes the never enough ep, a 4 track collection of tracks that ooze his own unique sound. deep, rolling, crisp drum programming, breakbeats and swelling synth pads all form the classic moon music vibe. this fully remastered reissues tracks are all lovingly transferred from paul hester s private, personal dat stash. classic, deep uk techno sounds from the pre-millenium era, re-presented for the first time for 2017s dancefloors. across this ep we are treated to a sound that is timeless and will undoubtedly gain paul hester new fans while reminding those of us who were there in the late 90s / early noughties about his subtle and uniquely fresh production style.

before boogie funk had a resurgence in 2012, ruckazoid was dropping rare funk albums in 2004. his demos were floating around la, but it wasn’t until 2009 that breakbot remixed ruckazoid’s original “life’s fantasy”, which was later released in 2011 as an original track titled “fantasy” on ed banger records. fantasy became a breakout hit scoring a #1 single on itunes. in 2013 when daft punk released “get lucky” featuring pharrell, funk was officially back in the mainstream. those in the know knew breakbot & ruckazoid helped rekindle the funk flame worldwide. after all, the label ed banger is headed by busy p, and busy p managed daft punk. suprinsingly, ruckazoid did not tour with breakbot, opting to stay in the studio to record more albums. amazing lover being one of these albums, with love game becoming the lead track.

4 years after the conception of heist recordings with the break up to make up ep by label heads dam swindle, they deliver their 4th solo record and release no.26 for the label. on the cant hold it ep, the guys showcase their love for lush disco, analogue basslines and leftfield musicians, bringing in nyc native willie burns for a remix that shows you the darkest side of heist yet.

after the success of closer to freedom in 2014, chicago legend dj jes returns to tardis records with the between the lines ep, featuring two lost tracks from his personal archives and a brand new offering. opener æno foolingÆ is reduced to the bare essentials until an elegant snatch of piano and spoken word sample break it down further, when the track kicks back in with a vengeance everyone in the room will know all about it, but it remains subtle enough to work the day after as well. on the flip, æbetween the linesÆ is tougher and dubbier and will do some serious peak-time damage, whilst new track lost is a cut-up banger for the floor and a perfect dj tool. all tracks have been meticulously edited and rearranged by label owners eli verveine and oscar schubaq in order to extend the grooves and maximise dance floor impact.

andi and david first met in a forest beside a psychedelic castle in the wild west of scotland and soon bonded over a love of wrong speeders, balearic gems hidden in plain sight and the odder side of the dancefloor before djing together just moments after andi was unraveled from a burning tarpaulin. a firm friendship and fun partnership was born. hailing from mancunia but for sometime an export to the usa, andi, for many years was one of the great things about new york city. a charming, low-key individual, a great, great dj and a graceful presence in the land of the overhyped and ego driven. andi held down the musical supervision of rock star games and was responsible for a lot of great music getting out to the gaming masses. he was a vital member of body and soul for the best part of 15 years, delivering infamous warm up sets for danny krivit, joaquin joe claussell and françois k, pedigree vibes... david, a music lover since birth, a record collector for more than quarter of a century and a reputation for being the first on the floor at any party. db s transition from dancer to dj didn t take too long and his selections of rare disco, oddball gems and panglobal pandemonium have seen him play back rooms, basements, festivals and freakouts throughout the land, whether running his own parties in glasgow or playing further afield alongside the likes of young marco, jayda g and moodymann.

the 2nd release from i walked by night comes firing out of the southside of glasgow. a young man by the name of the burrell connection has been flying under the radar for a few years now... a perth native / glasgow immigrant has been making music since he was 15, his first release came via west end communications (003) in 2015. since then he has released most recently with craigie knowes on the amazing 2nd annual war child fundraiser along with legowelt, shanti celeste, neville watson and many more. southside was made with a juno 6, yamaha dx21, roland tr8, korg minilogue and twisting samples and recording most tracks in one take with little post editing. this ep oozes raw energy and shows off a delicate deft touch. after debuting at the warehouse project in 2016, the burrell connection will be producing his first live show in 2017.

reissue of a classic! the label: tk records in essence represents the city of miami when it came to soul/r&b and the early stages of disco. in 1974, george mccrae gave the label its first no. 1 disco hit with rock your baby. a little more than a year after mccrae s hit, the record label struck gold with kc & the sunshine band with five 1 songs on the billboard hot 100. needless to say at the height of the genreÆs cultural domination tk did pretty well.

after their highly regarded debut on attic music called “laq 02” back in may 2016 boston 168 are back with a 4-track spanning release named “khidi raver”.
