the record opens with utopia , a luminous, evocative and fascinating track by the german artist hyboid, the undoubted leader of space and cosmic sounds. the british artist kid machine replicates on the same album side with the track fighting fears , which includes echoes of disco and den haag sounds. on the other side of this 12inch, we will listen first to monologues , a hypnotic-percussive track signed by the renowned french artist in aeternam vale. non auro, sed ferro by hesperius draco closes down the album, fizzing among their usual coordinates: horror disco, retro wave and soundtrack sounds.

kapote loves the funk. and he loves blaxploitation movies. the black underground cinema from the 1970ies. kapote samples dirty talk from these movies and puts it on his bass lines. melodic basslines with a heavy 1070 funk vibe. bass lines that can create a sexual tension. kapote adds a few warm, jazzy rhodes piano chords and a lot of reverbs and filtering. and the music rolls. often more like a jam then like a constructed piece of music. in the highest points this music is pure endorphin. it s 4 to the floor - but it has a soulful analogue sound. kapote says he was listening to records from old detroit label red planet and parisian downtempo pioneers motorbass and la funk mob while making this record. and yes, the vibe is there. like these guys kapote likes to build his musical trips around snippets from old funk vinyl. adding beats with vintage drum machines and creating an eclectic trip into a universe full of jazzy bits, noisy drums and dirty samples.

for the latter half of 2016 saft is proud to announce a release by the one and only funketeer and pasadena based connoisseur of the true underground funk-music dâm-funk. the trans atlantic collaboration between the canary islands based label and dam funk resulted in “architecture”. a 3 track limited 500 copies slice of otherworldly synths, drum machines and percussive grooves that showcase the true west coast sound of modern funk.

2015 saw datassette in generous form, the original offal brought 100 tracks of alleged offcuts. while a rare few actually live up to this self-deprecation, it couldnt be a more misleading title. now, selected offal has been boiled down to a gravy-like substance for a vinyl release by the nice folks at shipwrec. after discussions with the artist, and suggestions from fans, seventeen prime cuts have been selected for the vinyl edition of offal, alongside a few brand new previously unheard nuggets and alternative versions. expect a buffet of delights. smooth electronica, abrasive funk, out-there acid experimentation, chip tune chicanery and everything in between from this chameleon of machine music.

american experimental musican shane english continues in a long tradition of outsider electronics as hes been humbly prolific in his output though the years involving himself in numerous recording projects.collaborating with jonah lange in their group corporate park as well as an ongoing collab with beau wanzer (seeing a release last year under the cp/bw name), english now commits his second full length solo offering to vinyl in the form of the general dimensions lp. sparse machine driven electronics dominate the recording providing a back drop for the occasional pulsating rhythm, metallic clank or floating obscured vocal. while it is a dark and sparse affair there is a quiet downtrodden beauty throughout giving the recording a sense of uncertain serenity in an almost shoegazey way. highly recommended for those into early electronics.

lp reissues cut from the long-awaited 2010 digital remasters for the first time on vinyl and cd, original release from 1980. reissues of a legendary artist, pioneer of the french electronic music. the french proto-electro is making a come-back as we’ve seen it with the success of both cosmic machine compilations. their 7” “onyx” sold over 3 million copies worldwide. space art is behind the massive hits: “onyx”, “give me love”, “love in c minor” and more. one of half of the band, dominique perrier, is one of legend jean-michel jarre’s closest collaborators. recognized as a keyboard virtuoso, he worked on all jarre’s albums from “rendez-vous” (1986)to “oxygène 7-1” (1997) and still tours with him around the world. space art also toured with him in china in the early ’80s. alongside jean-michel jarre and cerrone they are one of the most influential bands that pioneered electro music.

this is the first project of a series of vinyl, which aim is to explore the deep link between man and analogic machines. every track is sampled by analogic hardware machines in order to keep the unique, distorted, boiling sound like only these instruments are able to do. this four-track release is the result of a dogged industrial groove fixed by the deepest techno side of the drum. it mesmerizes with the electric pulse of its eclectic riffs and the power of its raving sound.

as we welcome another talented artist to our family we asked viken about the first part of a two part release and he told us it s really important to understand that this ep is a series of pictures telling a story. combining the names of all the tracks one gets this interesting and dreamy sentence, on a blue road a white shadow feels the winter. to translate these pictures into music, i needed a very particular sound. since i am a huge fan of jazz music i took one of my favorite records, used a lot of samples and reworked them in my own way. from the technical aspect, i decided to reconnect with my first love: analog machines. i love working with sound textures. i stayed away from my laptop and all my vst/plugins as i felt the need to compose these tracks in an unusual way: i wanted the sound to be really pure. that s the reason why this process was so essential for me. for me, this ep is the first one to sound like this. this is the first of two releases from a deeply talented soul. a patient collage of house, jazz, acid squiggles and deep emotion. played and loved all summer long by lee burridge at all day i dream, these tracks will stay with you through winter and into next summer.

earlier this year jamal moss aka hieroglyphic being released the discos of imhotep album via ninja tunes technicolour imprint. drawing on the energy and spirituality of sun-ra, moss conducted his machines to create a raw, pulsating and meditative work that focused as much on the dancefloor as on the synapses. it was universally praised: sweaty and ecstatic, elevated and pure(pitchfork - 8.0) frequently sublime (crack magazine) fires the mind and soothes the soul. early electronics by a.k.klosowski made available again through felix kubin s galgarin records label! long before digital sampling was affordable for everyone, a.k.klosowski invented his kassetteninstrument, a custom-made music apparatus consisting of eight sony-walkmen combined with a mute/demute mechanism. the outputs of the instrument could be controlled both by hand and by an automatic trigger module. in addition, a drum computer and some effect machines were fed into the circuit. this technique allowed for very intuitive and simultaneous control over the analogue tape sources.

the symbiosis piece by malcolm pointon was very interesting and is the kind of use synthesizers should be put to. synthesizers should explore new sounds rather than imitate conventional ones... practical electronics magazine c.1975 malcolm pointon was born in 1940, stoke on trent. he spent his life and career in tape, synthesizer and keys, academia, sound, music and machine. here, for the first time, public information and ian helliwell present the rarely heard works of malcolm pointon. with permission given by malcolms widow barbara, helliwell has compiled an lp of material taken from master tapes of home-recorded, never released electronic material.

sebastian maschat a.k.a. stoneage kid has been around in the house music scene for about 15 years now: cult stoner house with extra produktionen , drummer in erlend oye s whitest boy alive and numerous other projects. stoneage kid is an hardware / mpc based act, with own vocals and a very distinctive electro pop aesthetique. his first ep on smile for a while creally sounds like captain comatose meeting isolee in some purple haze panic room. you ll find melancholic drum machine jams, some serious synths, lotsa vocoder and a lot of bassline-bumping. phillip lauer delivers a refreshingly cheesy remix with god singing solo and the holy ghost on drums just as expected. hang on to a dream is quite a special tune, written and sung by german indie veteran otto von bismarck. this remix version is really something for intimate connoiseurs of both pop and house music.

high summer. sun is shining and the bordello is open to newcomers, the latest being slovenia’s ichisan. a 12” that bulldozes barriers, metamundus seamlessly slips between electro disco, braindance acid and gilded funk. writhing 303 jerks are tempered by warm-hearted key changes for the title track, patterns ducking into playful frolics and lush deeps. and this desire to toy with convention is what characterises the ep. bitter chords are sugared, machine grooves with nods to the dancefloors of the 70s, spaceflights with undertones of chicago, ichisan brings all together in a 12” that is as unique as it is addictive.

ixvlf is back at it again following the language of mini-album released earlier this year as part of our ongoing tape series. pushing it further from where we last left off, connor clasen’s vinyl debut reflects our ever growing desire to re-interpret club music in its most primitive and cartilaginous nature. while cleverly obscuring any reference to a specific period of time, involuntary movement shows a sense of the american-based producer stretching disorienting imagery over the existing landscape of proto-industrial — matching the visual interpretation of ailsa ogden undertaking the artwork by way of a new collaboration to be expanded over a handful of releases — where unpolished synthesizers and rhythm machines collide and bawl in a controlled crash. it is an exercise of existing in various states of detachment, a fixation on mechanical repetition and unpredictable behaviors through the haze of helium laughter. definitely one for the animals.

the second release of another earth is upon us and this time it s all about proper detroit techno combined with distorted left wing machine house. the label combines 2 acts together in a split ep series which compliment each others sound. for the a-side the highly talented producer, plural (separate skills, metroplex, u.s.), created 2 essential detroit techno tracks. the a1 is a warm uplifting peak time bomb and the a2 has a darker vibe concentrated on the groove. the b-side hosts 2 tracks from the intriguing mind of hakim murphy (machine dreams, chicago, u.s.). the b1 is a heavy distorted peak time house banger while the b2 is quite the opposite, deep and obscure.

flames & figures is the second full-length album from the seshen, whose forward-thinking sound combines synthesizers, drum machines, live percussion and entrancing harmonies for an unmistakable fusion of r&b, synth-pop and electronic music. the long player sees the band on the cusp of a new era, two years in the making, the album marks an evolution in the seshen’s unique sound.

growing more deeply into raars punk ethos, maelstrom and louisahhh s tracks on the labels fourth release are as much about process as end product. several days of one-room, one-take live sessions involving guitar feedback, machine cacophony and endless growling and shouting resulted in hurry and listen. these song were molded into work that is at once unconventional and club-ready with much effort in preserving the feral qualities of the original material.

illusory house and techno from new york native image man, following up a release on crucial newcomer label sunal/perabob with another four-track 12” of windy, paradoxical tracks built from samples and drum machine. “glance” shifts further into a weirded out but druggily decadent realm where he’s found looping the reflections of disco, soul and ancient pop samples into his own spaced and primitive euphorias, starting out with the slowmo downbeat of “more” before the more apprehensive rhythms of “else” end up filtering out into a pool of a reverberant samples that echoes out the second half. from the image man himself: “we trust in the sound we take for granted—the music wouldn t lead us astray, would it? emotions can lead us astray, the wanting to feel, the wishing of forever lasting, the pleading for change, the expectation of ecstasy. just a quick glance in the mirror.”

d3 elements continues to mine the fertile soil of midwest inspired house, techno and electro with this fantastic new album from michael dykehouse (sometimes found turning out experimental fare on planet mu and ghostly). here the grooves are immediate and engaging across nine tracks, from the bubbly -meltdown morning- to the spooked-out -clock division-, touching on a range of styles all bound together by a commitment to classic drum machine beats and synthesiser tones. this is far from a throwback record though, instead celebrating dykehouse s innate musicality through all manner of tempos and moods and coming out as a well-rounded long player in the process.
