the argentinian based ngly had seemingly appeared out of thin air landing on the brooklyn based l.i.e.s. label in 2014 with an untitled four track white label ep. on this ep, the unsuspecting track -speechless tape- ended up becoming a cult hit with select djs in the scene (i-f, mick wills, intergalactic gary...) eventually leading to it being voted as intergalactic fm s #1 track of the year in 2014. on the heels of his successful debut rudolfo could have stayed the path and produced an easily digestable follow up dance record or two, instead he chose to take his time and reflect. sitting back in the studio tweaking his live act, recording endlessly, transforming and refining his sound.

why making a techno record in 2016? in the vast stream of new releases and the everlasting quest of new musical boundaries, blint002 tries to focus on the essentials of pattern-based clubmusic. both tracks started as late night studio jams, using only a drummaschine, a synth and some pedals. while 92 avenue ended up being a straightfoward technotrack, including a massive breakdown for everybody still awake and dancing, you have i dont have is incorporating some boomy hiphop aesthetic without loosing its connection to the dancefloor. both tracks are linked by their unresting synthlines, straying around, trapped in a noisey room full of smoke and distortion. bouncing back to the inital question, the answer with this record seems pretty clear: techno is still nothing but pure dark fun.

dominatrix is a synth-pop/electro project from the 80’s, best remembered for their 1984 club hit, “the dominatrix sleeps tonight”. the brains behind this new york city based project is producer/songwriter stuart argabright, whose other projects over the years have included ike yard, black rain, the futants, the death comet crew, the dystopians, and the voodooists.
the story behind this project began one night when a young stuart met a beautiful mysterious older women in a corvette while hitchhiking. they became friends, spending nights at her east side apartment, getting high and listening to bowie records. after argabright noticed the bull whips and manacles hanging in her closet, it became apparent that his friend’s occupation was chaining up, whipping, and torturing upscale manhattan businessmen (who were very willing victims and had the credit card bills to prove it). this project came to life because of his sincere admiration and respect for professional dominatrixes.
