smaul recordings should not be suggestive of being fed by productions of acid pauli, only. however, creative times need being used and martin gretschmann - aka console - member of the notwist - alias acid pauli has collected lots of material whilst the scarce time left last year. on smaul 07 he follows his self-weaved red thread of the year. acid pauli confides more & more in a certain house rhythm paired with these melancholic layered sound-synthesis, already well known by him. astonishing things emerge out of acid paulis musical waves, sometimes even scientially croon quite a bit. nymbiotic (a) comes relaxed but holds a great melody up in the sleeve - seasonly peppered. symbiotic (b) rests bit on minimal house, but acid pauli never relied on that genre. thus, this track does not remain as it seems after three minutes. glitches and sounds break it up to evolve a new symbiosis. symbiotic becomes more timeless in spite of siren-climax peaks and an obsessive string chorus fading in the end.

there seems to be a bit a mystery around this record... and let some of this mystery remain. these two remixes of a fairly obscure song are pretty well known to the public, as for the last year or so they were regulars both in live sets of jacek sienkiewicz, and dj sets of ricardo villalobos. right now these two artists share credits to this obviously outstanding release. >pilgrim< is a vital, mesmerizing, uplifting piece of magic. one can assume, telling from the unusual, muezzin-like chanting, that it comes from some forgotten oriental library record... in fact, it was written in the seventies by a respected polish composer and extraordinary vocalist to the words of 19th century polish poet. now you can hear its modern, not to say futuristic, interpretation by two of the most forward-thinking electronic musicians from two different sides of the globe.

this obscure lost soundtrack for an even more obscure (and also lost and never finished) italia violenta cop movie was recently discovered when i bought the dusty reel tapes from a restaurant owner in fiumicino, a seaside town near rome. panter 777 aka il labirinto di roma violenta aka the maze of violence, he told me, was directed by gervasio giardano in 1981 and was considered too (politically) explicit by the movie production company who dropped the project after the first screening. the soundtrack, an explosion of wahwah funk riffs and juicy analog synthesizers, was composed by an obscure band called nacho patrol. the restaurant owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, was one of the band members and composed most of the tracks. 5 years ago back in february 2003 in montmartre (paris, france) pedro winter aka busy p created the ed banger record label. most of the artists have been discovered by pedro, and often live near the labels office. over the past 2 years the rise of the label has been something like a phenomenon, with all artists being on a worldwide tour (dj and/or live) at sold out venues, each appearance always long awaited and celebrated like a the coming of the messiah by thousands of raging kids from each and every part of the world. drawing on the street energy of hip hop, rocks explosion and hypnotic compression of techno music, but remaining open to all other influences, the sound of the label, mostly electronic and saturated, has become a trademark, registered worldwide. justice, busy p, uffie, feadz, mehdi, dsl, oizo, vicarious bliss, mr flash, krazy baldhead, sebastian and so: mes post cartoon imaging are practically pop culture icons, especially within the new web media (myspace, blogs, forums) where ed banger remain one of the unbeatable masters of its use. this third volume of the labels own compilation features 12 new tracks and mixes.

the man behind chymera is brendan gregoriy. releasing music since 2005, the producer from dublin already has an impressive discography with releases on labels such as delsin or ovum. >ellipsis< and >eulogy< are sonic epics that never cease zu fascinate the listeners. they manage to be bold and sophisticated, powerful and elegant at the same time. they transform the dancefloor in an maelstrom with no way out, and yet they never give their electronic cool away, they always remain subtle and somewhat distant. the sounds form an imaginary landscape, they are a projection surface for one s desires

in 2007 crew 7 had with eye of the tiger an international club hit! just in the german dj charts they remain 10 weeks on no.1 and a half year later they were still in the top 20. after the second single in 2007 such a shame its time for the 1st single in 2008: money for nothing, a cover of the world hit from the dire straits. there is the original mix, 2 electro mixes and on the vinyl you ll find a bonus electro mix from eye of the tiger!!
