cgi records is extremely proud to be presenting the new ep from oakland via-bermuda based artist russell e.l. butler. i m dropping out of life are 4 cuts of essentialist dance music that can provide an ecstatic escape from the drudges of professional life for all who so rightly seek it. as russell himself elaborates, the title has been on my mind a lot, since i almost lost my life in the ghost ship fire and watched as many of my friends lost theirs. i came up with the title several months ago, in fact 2 of the tracks were shopped in a producer s group that johnny (nackt) and chelsea (cherushii) were a part of, both of whom i lost in the fire. this release is about a commitment to life. the life that i refer to dropping out of, is a life where dreams are put on hold, where concessions are made in order to just survive. but that comes at a cost, one that is far too great for me to pay at this point. i wrote this poem, it ll come as an insert with the record.

with a meticulous sound design and audibly distinguish, suciu s latest work transports the listener into an exquisite intricacy, far away from the conventional. showcasing a mysteriously dark, eerie atmosphere, -translucid- subsists a glitched out after hours affair. this heavy piece of techno house minimalism plays along with a quirkly oddity allready established in suciu s trademark. on the other side we find -jesus chrysler-, a refined micro-house beat that hosts a warmer ambiance, delivering a delightful context for carefully selected whimsy sounds.

even if russian producer gradient logic is found here turning out the business on serbian label disco fruit, the sound on the far away ep comes on like a snappy fusion of garage-ready new york proto house and laid back west coast boogie of the highest order. it s the third vinyl release for tonbe s label, and once more marks the serious clout behind the eastern european operation and its closest artists. just try grooving to the slick bass pops on feel me without being transported to an early 80s dancefloor. there s a more organic funk to lock into on i want you slide, but as ever it s hard to tell where the sampling ends and the musicianship begins on this utterly natural sounding ep.
