auf »released!« versammeln die musiker zehn brandneue wie auch bereits auf raren 7”-singles veröffentlichte songs und remixes. echte acid jazz-freaks kennen die kracher ›wonder zebra‹ oder ›v. l.a. m. blue hawaii is the songwriting, production, and dj project of raphaelle ‘ra’ standell and alexander ‘agor’ kerby. after some four years apart, the duo rekindled their creative flame in 2016 and begun writing music about an intimate relationship ra was experiencing mostly over instant messaging, sparking ideas about the meaning of closeness in our highly connected world. tenderness is a concept album which brings forth the challenges of handling relationships online. maintaining closeness over distance and a need for more tenderness between each other - both in real and virtual life - are important themes in the album s progression. the album draws upon influence from 90 s dance tracks and deep disco cuts, often mixed with ra’s acoustic guitar playing. it unfolds like a play and each song being supported by shorter interlude pieces: skits, phone calls, acoustic demos, real life samples and quiet left-turns.

it has been eleven long years since urbs dropped his last album which was called “toujours le meme film”. back then, the musician, dj and producer created the soundtrack to a fictitious film noir, which was released on kruder & dorfmeister‘s g-stone label, but after touring europe he almost completely retreated from public life. he does not consider his creativity as being his career, but rather as a part of his life which rarely is subject to concrete planning, and that is why urbs quite consciously took his time to create his latest –untitledalbum.

before there was a man in black, there were the sun records years, when cash began defining his peculiar and witty version of country music. born in arkansas in 1932, cash began recording as a top artist for sun records, for which he released his first full-length lp. this double lp set documents all the hits from 1955 to 1958, before cash signed to columbia records. these 35 “first steps” helped build the legend and are considered the milestones of an incredible career that ended with those passionate and soulful albums on the “american recordings” series released between 1994 and 2003, the year jr cash died on sept 12.

the house band of bunny ‘striker’ lee was formed in the mid-1970s by some of jamaica’s most prominent and musically expressive session players. the shifting core line-up spun off from the soul syndicate and thus typically featured earl ‘chinna’ smith and tony chin on guitar and bernard ‘touter’ harvey on organ. carlton ‘santa’ was the main drummer, but carlton barrett of the wailers band and ‘benbow’ creary were sometimes featured. most crucially, on bass, aston ‘family man’ barrett shifted to fully fullwood (and occasionally, earl ‘bagga’ walker), until robbie shakespeare took over, becoming the bandleader. the band was responsible for the popular ‘flying cymbal’ style that took jamaica by storm, and you can hear it in abundance on this killer dub set from 1975, its excellent cuts of cornell campbell and johnnie clarke material mixed at king tubby’s studio - a must for all serious fans of dub.

‘fallen down is the second ep from tee mango and will sauls primitive trust project, featuring a remix by shanti celeste. the title track weaves percussive shuffles and vocal refrains with glowing synths, whilst colourful melodic layers and resonating vocal stabs armour the choppy live drums of ‘day one. dekmantel regular shanti celeste does what she does best with her remix of fallen down in building a rich, hypnotic groove that steadily develops with intricacy and depth, whilst ‘big tracky disco tool is exactly that.

doppel-lp-re-issue des zweiten vic chesnutt albums von 1992.180g schweres vinyl plus acht neue bonustracks. dieses album wurde, wie auch sein debüt, von michel stipe von r.e.m. produziert. vic chesnutt war seit seinem autounfall im jahr 1983 von der hüfte abwärts gelähmt, was in der folge zum missbrauch von schmerzmitteln und alkohol führte. trotz dieser belastungen veröffentlichte er in seiner karriere 17 alben/eps. am 25. dezember 2009 nahm sich vic chesnutt das leben. die aussicht mit der musik nicht genug zu verdienen, um seine medizinische betreuung aufrecht zu erhalten, führte zu dem tragischen schritt.

mano le tough is set to release his second 12inch on maeve, the label he cofounded with baikal and the drifter in 2012. the label was born from the idea to release hypnotic dancefloor dedicated music, and this release certainly stays true to that. big words from the small mouth arrives on the a side of maeve 11 with quite the clatter. searing synth jams scatter over a brooding kick/sub bass combo. the sharp crisp percussion drives the track forward all the time, while various bleets, squeals and swells develop throughout giving the track a raw rave vibe. arganol on the flip is a trippy affair. touching 9 mins long, this track feels like mano le tough right from the outset, patient in its approach whilst slowly telling the listener its story. the narrative unravels through woozy melodies and melancholic cameos culminating in a burst of movement and energy perfect for the wee hours of a dancefloor.
