the boys are gliding back onto the scene with scissor and threads first release of 2016, waiting ground. the handsome twosome of frankie skates and tony b. real deliver us four prime cuts aimed squarely at the dance floor. the vinyl-exclusive, ebreo, sees the duo flex their afro-rhythmic muscle, placing silky smooth bass over a bed of soft swirling percussion highlighted by a pitched down steel drum. next, an edit first heard on frank & tonys acclaimed resident advisor podcast comes to light. deftly cutting the hushed ambient tones of donato whartons absentia into perfect portions, frank & tony loop brittle bits over a chunky kick and shuffling hi-hat to hypnotic effect. the ep’s title track evokes the sun-kissed euphoria of early hour raves with its lush atmospherics and playfully subdued piano line buoyed by a thick kick and airy pads. finally pavane takes the previous tracks laid back attitude and flips it, adding a thick in-your-face kick and propulsive pads for a foot-stomping, hands in the affair dj weapon.

after releasing brand new material on dum034, dum records are dipping into the label boss’s production archives for the next one: it is a reissue that features tracks from a number of classic mono junk releases. two came on trope records, one in 1995 and one in 1993, and the last pair of cuts come from 1996 when they were released on plug research. arguably some of the influential finnish producer’s finest work, all of the tracks here emphasize how long he is operating on the top of his game already.

chicago based chris gray has appeared on multiple releases throughout the 90s and the new millennium. while some of his most appreciated works have been published through his own imprint deep4life, for the next pulp release, chris gets deep and melodious with some funked out synths whilst maintaining that lush deep atmosphere that has proven to be his signature mode.

for its premier release, division point industries is proud to announce a 4-track ep by rolling ones, a collaborative project featuring johannes auvinen (tin man) and jordan poling (jordan). rolling ones finds its voice in the synthesis of each artist s sound, combining tin man s acidic melodies with jordan s deep, textural pads. debuting at the division point industries residency at bushwick s notorious bossa nova civic club, rolling ones marked their arrival by playing a dj back-to-back set. opening the record is 93 mustang , a muscular, no-nonsense roller built around deep wells of warm bass and slick-piston percussion. as it builds, tin man s signature acidic squelch dances in the remaining space, giving the track a sense of both life and depth. next is faded delorian , an abyssal burner that refracts its ghostly tones around a panning labyrinth of crystalline synths. on the flip is slammed cadillac , a sinewy, stripped down stomper of clattering percussion and caustic 303s. jacked up impala finishes the record as a jacking acid tool. founded by jordan poling, division point industries is a new label built on the success of a collaborative residency with cory james at brooklyn s bossa nova civic club. having hosted artists ranging from the established to the underground, division point industries has crafted a no-nonsense take on deep house and techno that is rich in history while remaining focused on the future.

as 2016 rolls through, so does fossil archive with its 4th release since its highly acclaimed beginnings in february 2015. with fossil archive’s previous release featuring as “tune of the month” on mixmag’s november 2015 techno page, this next two-part ensemble sees two very different tracks leave you with little doubt that fossil archive remains inspired to be at the forefront of all things techno.

early support from raresh, akufen, and jan krueger, next up on sol asylum is non other than julie marghilano with her innerspace ep. taking the listener to another dimension of sound, she brings her range of musical knowledge to create a solid package with a stunning remix from fred p. starting things off on a analog journey with “innerspace” we move through an interstellar universe with detailed grooves full of percussive splatters and echoing synths that moves us into a dream like state of mind. conjuring the jazz planet in berlin with“katzbachjazz”you are immediately transported to a galaxy of sound with galloping percussion and a classic techno layout. using more 909 techno drum elements she creates a whirlwind of sound with a delicate touch. taking things a little bit deeper with “cosmic karma” she presents a heavily detailed drum structure full of violin experimentation that creates a dark atmosphere but still bringing an uplifting and joyous vibe. finishing off the package is something unique from fred p who julie asked to remix for her due to her enormous respect for him. the emotionally charged remix of“cosmic karma” shows a different side of fred p while still keeping his signature sound in tact. the remix takes us through an ever-evolving voyage through time and space.

splendor & squalour number 3 sees brame & hamo return to their rising imprint. since the boys ep lamajs secrets on dirt crew we have seen them do a string of remixes for labels such as kolor ltd, heist & their very successful remix for harry wolfman and loz goddards uncle buck on dirt crew. all these releases have kept a steady momentum going for the sligo boys in the house scene. for this ep we have a full 3 tracker consisting of all original cuts. the ep kicks off with kebab dreams which takes us on a trip to the moon with greasy drums and saucy groove. up next is the mpc workout cert city paying homage to their hometown of sligo. closing the ep we have retch wretchedness which takes a darker turn showing us the spookier side of brame & hamo while still keeping the jazzy touch. a peak time track for sure.

the next installment on aus music sees the return of a relatively new addition to the roster rob glassett aka fold. throughout previous 12inches on manmakemusic and electric minds and on his outstanding netflix & chill debut for aus last year - fold has laced together dusty house grooves built with a classic approach to sampling funk, disco and soul records. next up - his lennys jam ep starts up with a dub techno groove built with delayed and panned stabs and sharp, pacy drums. rosie lea lays out a rich and sunny groove as a playful sample filters into focus over deftly treated drum kit samples and a buoyant bass line. tracksuits and tennis shoes then follows up with a no-nonsene party jam a short funk link is set over a booming kick that closes up a nicely varied package.

mirko takes his vision to the next level, producing two tracks that defy any convention in todays often monotonous and stagnating music market: * undo* minimalistic intro leads on to a bunch of spooky vocals looped throughout the whole piece, squelchy synth melodies and percussive stabs all around, while * solaris* atmospheric, bright and ethereal pads make for a more than 12 minutes long trip of blissed out magic.

after the part iii, the part iv of habitat series focuses all the energies on the next 4 track project where matrixxman, mental resonance, benjamin mull and christian lisco are the protagonist of this highly flammable ep. dark, acid, futuristic and rough elements blend together into something incredibly harmonious.

after the debut release on do not sleep become a sure fire club hit, the ibiza party turned much loved house and tech label now has another weapon up its sleeve. the next release is from perel, is titled charles manson and features another standout remix from resident darius syrossian. perel is a berlin based dj, producer and vocalist who is quickly rising through the ranks. she has released both originals and remixes on o*rs before now, and has a robust house and techno infused sound that simply makes you want to dance. as a dj she is a regular at cool spots like farbfernseher and impresses here with what she serves up for do not sleep. the original is a chunky, no-nonsense house track with bouncy bass, subtle vocals and the sort of futuristic and soulful pads that help make it really stand out. it s a slick, well produced sound that is sure to make it into many top record bags in the coming weeks and months. the remix from darius is a subtle one that layers in some trance inducing vocals and extra breakdowns so as to really highlight the powerful effect of the drums each and every time they drop.

former co-owner of mr peabody infamous record store in chicago, exquisite music connoisseur, deep dj and fresh sounds familiar member mark grusane provides the next in the series of sf 45s. space mountain is a funk fusion monster while in fifth dimension mark shows his darker side pushing the electro/new wave envelope and even providing vocals. once again a sounds familiar winner and another demonstration of marks rich musical palette.

by all accounts, whiskey disco has matured. each release unique, but compiled meticulously to meet some of the highest standards in the edit community. wd45 continues the trajectory with 4 tracks combining equal parts soul, boogie and disco. rastanils cuts up cheesy obscurity to reveal heavy disco vibes—this edit was smashed by mcde at numerous festivals in 2015. next up, the intriguing corsican brothers reappear after a 5 year absence from whiskey disco with a sliced version of i like it, beefed up bass and space on the platters with a touch of dub. side b exemplifies the weirdness only a b-side can… albions disco chopper is a stretched and phased party jam that does not stop. move to the inside for the lengthy and epic big time, a 9 minute exploration into rocking disco roots, courtesy of the eponymously named blaxploitation movie from 1977.

the double drop label present the second of three parts from the invisible cities collective, made up of luca c & brigante plus guests. following the summers moments in between (featuring ivan smagghe remixes), in my garden finds the guys carving a sumptuous slo-mo house groove, with a rather special secret collaborator on vocal duties. the result is something lush and unique. the original is backed with a fine interpretation from the mole, and the super cool edge of our love completes the package. the new music from invisible cities doesnt stop there. next up is part 3, sunkissed with remixes from apiento and special dubs from mad professor.

next up from fuse london is the latest ep from resident rich nxt. hot on the heels of launching his own nxt records, this scorching four track platter represents his strongest and most dancefloor friendly ep to date. donkey, quixotic and longtime showcase an intricate yet effective sound, laced with powerful bass, sharp percussion, subtle synths, analogue dirt and bags of groove. all of the tracks have gained widespread support and captured ears around the globe whilst the dark, lurching flux one provides something a bit different.

here we have the fourth and last reference of the “moog your body” series, in which, as always, we have 4 tracks from 4 different artists. for this release we team up with cream soda aka locked club, moscow based duo, that offers a particular vision of acid house with his track “one more night stand”, mixing low-fi jacking and hip-house in a record that will be the artists first vinyl giveaway. the next cut is 6tma’s, our franchise-man. his new mutant rave composition, “joan manuel serato”, more focused towards breaks and uk hardcore, is going to destroy the dance floor again.

french label d3 elements returns to chicago for its next ep, this time looking to the assured house talents of hakim murphy for three tracks of raw, dense grooves right from the heart of the windy city. opener boxbeat is a curious, freaky jam with bobbing percussive hits, wonky, pixel thin synth lines and free roaming pads that wrap the whole thing in a nice sense of spaced-out serenity. taste o rainbow has a much more firmly planted kick drum that pounds away uninterrupted below a free flowing brew of modulate synth sounds. it s expertly reduced and masterfully reserved and is sure to send dance floors wild as a result. the flipside cut freshness has pinging drums and a big, frazzled bass line as slithering chords rain down the face. musical yet jacking, cosmic yet propulsive, it is a perfectly contemporary chicago house sound that rounds out a fine ep from one of the best in the game.

soooo here we are with the tenth and final release, thought it would be nice to finish on a nice zen like number, so this is a extra special release kind of a mini lp almost -opened up by fx mchn flush the trush is an intro to the comp and a reverse funk skittish affair next up is new man on the block for us here we been sitting on a collection of his tracks but felt this one complemented this ep the most, ecco foul, gloss is a sleazy machine groove that does t do much but thats just the way we like it .then comes mr facade with his jerky funk sweet surprises and warm melodies. the b side is opened by another newcomer from running back record hugh mane new age dawns whose track come s deep and wide open has to be heard on the headphones as well as the club jamie blanco s chord arrangments get opened up and spaced out by lht office boy toby tobias in a detroitesque ditty thats been used to open a few sets in 2015 already and finally alphonse delivers an out and out machine jam with the usual dub influence brought in vocal fashion.

the last couple of years have been huge for pomo, going from a relatively obscure canadian producer to releasing his debut ep on hw&w, remixing for the likes of janet jackson and mark ronson, and touring the globe with disclosure as their hand-picked opening act.
bastard jazz has commissioned pomo to be next in line for the fourth volume of their *tempo dreams* compilation albums, following on the heels of the hotly contested soul clap compiled vol. 3. as with other tempo dreams records, we tease it out with a limited 7 inch release with tracks from the compiler made specifically for the tempo dreams album.
*blue soda* (part 1) - pomos first original release since his ep in november of 2014 is a typical, rollicking pomo new disco joint with stabbing synths, chopped vocal samples and an irresistible bassline. part 2 on the flip-side delivers more of the same, with a little more of an introspective twist. part 2 is exclusive to the 7 inch only and wont be on the album.

new york s gunnar haslam appears on l.i.e.s. with his third lp for the label titled lebesgue measures. picking up where he left off on his last long player mirrors and copulation we hear an evolution in his sound throughout the nine songs. still there are the understated yet grooving acid lines next to carefully programmed drums and attention to surrounding detail which creates beautiful and balanced atmospheres. there is a brightness coupled with an underlying sullenness tapping into some sort of mystical and seemingly obscured narrative which moves through the entire record. deep and immersive stuff to say the least.
