i ve been inspired by the seasons, sounds of nature, the stars and the phases of the moon. observing these elements helps me realize that i am such a small piece of this universe. with all this in mind i began producing a 4 season album series.
we start off with hokkori shiyo - which in japanese means *smoking a joint together with friends*. this is an organically composed production which synchronizes with the elements.
my father recorded his own natural frequency and you can hear his defining voice during this track, combined with the frogs from a lake.

cadenza music opens up its 2016 account with the debut single from swiss producers, rare movement feat. disco channel. cutting their teeth on the dj circuit for many years, and playing alongside such esteemed jocks as seth troxler, ricardo villalobos (who mastered the audio on these tracks), jamie jones and luciano (who ultimately signed this single to cadenza), the guys have crafted a pair of tracks that sit right in the dj sets of the aforementioned company. rare 007 combines tension building synths and a wandering bassline, wrapped up tight in solid drum groove, its hypnotizing tones carving out a most useful club tool. on the flip side, rare 011 digs deeper, with cinematic string sweeps over the sparse and bass heavy kick drum. flashes of vocal refrains and micro percussion fly in and out of the arrangement as the melodic elements give this one a real sense of drama as the track blossoms into life. a very accomplished debut from the guys will no doubt provide a real dancefloor moment in the right setting, and no surprise that villalobos gave these tracks the audio master that they deserve.

velvet records proudly presents « v003 », a four-tracks long overview and celebration of the contemporary electronic music scene. together, the artists featured on the french label s first compilation present an audacious look at the depth and span of the scene while also moving the form forward into bold new shapes. touching on expansive deep techno and minimal house, this compilation is made up off exclusively produced and previously unreleased music from ekomine, yaroslav lenzyak, leopol and damien k. sahri, capturing the essence of the current chapter of these genres, hinting at the shape of those to come. french producer ekomine is the first to hit the road with « ramble », a solid sweet-sour blend of atmospheric sounds leading the listener to find himself gently trapped into an unpredictable deep-space diving journey. this is where ukrainian artist yaroslav lenzyak and acolyte rata come in with « cellar door ». no constellations here, but the substantive claustrophobic tale of a spectral entity slowly catching your doppelgänger in the twilight hours. an angel flies and we re suddenly entering the sensitive world of « joy misery » from parisian early analog machines enthusiast leopol, who invites wandering souls to a dance-oriented and delicate voodoo ritual before passing the torch to berlin-based producer damien k. sahri s « travel marvel » which confers the record a multi-ethnic dimension, kindly whiplashing bodies with a mixture of unavoidable pulsations.

covered by water i search for an escape from these tightening walls, far laughs confuse me, and i see the shadows of pedestrians over me, unarmed, in vain i try an handhold but i’m absorbed always more, i do not find an escape, one last inhalation, divides me from the death given to me, no more footsteps, no more shadows, no more laughs, no more water, one thunderous, gentle, rustle dries out each one of my tears of desperation, the eyes get closed, already white because of the cold.

another welcome name to soma from the spanish camp is reeko who delves head first into unfathomable deep techno depths with his debut release, barcelona #3:00 a.m. reeko has been building his name with great care and attention to his sound for many years and all this has culminated in a producer who can easily flip form deep, cerebral techno to full on filth. his debut on soma happily straddles these fields as thunderous sub bass matches some equally future realms of energy.

tired of just rumbling low ends and mindless battering, stefan vincent points us in a more melodic direction. a rather melancholic and dystopian one, showing off his understanding of harmonics and tone sections. these compositions in minor and major hint towards equally feeling, futuristic atmospheres in which human kind is more and more affected by its unsatisfiable hunger for technology and perfection. guided by the terrifying beauty of this vision, stefan takes us on a four track tour through this world. a world in which we will have become merely observers of ourselves and we can only be let down. we can only watch as we rise towards being doubtful sentients. we can only listen as we wait for the machines to catch up with us.

dreams of the future reveal more about the mind of the dreamer than the future itself-. the third release of rome-based label suburban avenue consists of 3 original tracks from the liverpool-based producer binny and bouncing remix by zadig. -polymorph- and -i/o- are oldschool, direct techno bangers that draw influence from detroit and beyond. with its minimally acidic riff, -signal repeat- is the perfect counterbalance to these tracks and is reminiscent of robert hood s early productions. zadig s electric remix of -i/o- takes the core of the track and re-works it into a subtle, yet tough peak-time groover that will slot easily into any discerning techno dj s set.

8 tracks of raw arabic funk music, none of these have ever been reissued before. so far fadoul (or fadaul, or faddoul, the transcribtion of his name to latin letters differs)& his music had not been rediscovered, as a matter of fact most of those songs still left no trace whatsoever in the world wide web. it took us 2 years and countless trips to morocco to find the artists family to license the release from them.

* kickin in*, an epic 12-minute journey through disco, that patrick cowley recorded in 1978. the song encapsulates the hi-nrg dance music that patrick became known for. it was an * up* sound for the gay disco scene, music that would compliment and sometimes enhance all night dancing. on the flip are two earlier songs produced between 1975-77 featuring basslines by college classmate and studio mate maurice tani. both songs feature patrick narrating erotic gay sex fantasies inspired by san franciscos leather bars, back rooms and bathhouses. these songs show the sleazy side of cowleys slow burning, oozing electronic creations

mesmerizing edgy strings and fluctuating pulses enrapture the listener into side a of romanmusiks third release com ep. with transfer 001 karl roman explores the creation of abstract notions breaking them down into their elementary particles forming an intriguing late-night groove. side b plays with these notions morphing seemingly adverse parts. transfer 002 starts from ever-evolving atmospheric soundscapes levitating into a wall of sound to then fade into hard hitting deep dance-floor techno, to be continued

our little label have grown static, we reached the fourth vinyl release. times it call, and brings it to the point. the young producers maurits and luca barletta done a really good job. with their different styles they took you on a journey in time and space. luca barletta made a tune reduced on old school beats with some dub chords. that brings every house lover a smile in the face and make them dance until there is no tomorrow. maurits an awesome talented young producer made a modern deep techno track. with dry beats and huge basses. straight forward through the night, thats the maxim of his sound. including some remixes by chris bc & rhadow

a sort of cabaret voltaire for the iphone age, drooids are a collective of three multimedia artists who produce electronic music using improvisational, often anarchic methods. utilizing a hodgepodge of gear both old and new, and not-wholly-quantized, they create a collage of sounds that verges on chaos before slipping back into a dark yet weirdly club-oriented beat. their live shows usually feature multiple guest collaborators, costumes, sculptural props and performative antics. for their debut release on lse we tried to capture the spirit of these shows and recorded over 11 hours of drooids improvising in the studio of the course of one week. those 11 sprawling hours then got edited down to these 4 snapshots, mastered and pressed in a limited edition of 200 (40 with original gelatin silver prints) for our 6th vinyl release.

it’s now pretty obvious that disco influence has not only been powerful in western clubs. it has also influenced musicians all around the world, and west-indies islands are no exception to the rule. indeed, at that time in the caribbean territories, local musicians and producers seized the sound of their us counterparts, and make it their own, melting-up disco, funk, and boogie (even early rap) elements with some more traditional or local styles. apart from some obvious titles which made it to the charts, very few was known on these productions until recently. from an initial pre-selection of 40 tracks, favorite recordings and waxist teamed up to narrow down the actual tracklist. with no pretention to be exhaustive, this selection represents a tiny sample of a broader ocean of quality caribbean disco/boogie tunes. favorite recordings & waxist are very happy and proud to bring back lights on some of these rare tunes.

when i was 10 years old my father took me to a flea market in a very small city up north in sweden, pitea. there was a little bit of everything being sold there: ski equipment, comics, porcelain figurines and vinyl. it was there and then i came across autobahn by kraftwerk. the thing is, we didn t have a turntable at the house we stayed in, on those cold winter weeks so i had to wait until we came back home to give the record a proper spin. in my mind i played it several times and i thought it was amazing. i imagined it was music from the future. what i thought when i heard it for real? didn t like it at all. the very same feeling i imagined autobahn would sound like is the one i get after listening to ishi vu s debut on omena. these five tracks, you could call it an album if you like, are playful, quirky, dreamy and very addictive. like finding a new friend you know you want to keep for a very long time.

it was in high school where music joined these two boys, exchanging deep techno and trance cassettes between classes. they grew and decided to study their passion, musical production. pablo & nani share the same style but each one does it differently in their own way, we could define it as deep tech-house. in this first ep they had clear ideas, they wanted to do a vinyl that could be played at the club, either in warm up and peak time, and they have done so. “the people we like” is the favorite of dactilar, modern deep house full of details with a clean groove. “for russia with love”, pablo’s favorite, classic deep techno in honor of all his russian followers. “krampf” is the bad guy of the movie, mental techno for long dj mixes, and “the hum”, dark and powerful from beginning to end. after so many years we are pleased to present pablo bolivar & dactilar together.

following up the fantastic summer re-release of upsetting keys “empathy” ep, path records follows with its first new catalogue number since 2006. path 008 marks the return of artist fate 258, whose 1999 “why 2k” path 001 ep has been a hotly sought after item on discogs. the three-track ep contains two exciting new mixes of cult classic techno track “the path”. the a-side version “path to hell” is the harder of the pair, a dark edgy journey into the unknown with shuffling 808 rhythms providing much of the melody. “path to heaven” slows the groove down and adds warm juno pads throughout the mix for a very deep detroit flavored techno style. on the final track “heaven or hell” sort of a broken beat downtempo piece, sparse vocals and bladerunner samples mix to complete the dystopian concept. these mixes of “the path” are considered pre-mixes, as they were completed in 1998 before the original release of path 001. fate 258 is a project from brooklyn producer reade truth, known for his work over the last decades on labels such as planet e, sonic groove, n-syde, wurst and strictly rhythm to name a few. limited to 250 worldwide, with the first 100 including full black and white cover art.

two raw extended trips from the mind of stl in a rare foray beyond his self-run something imprint. stephan laubner applies his usual auteur principles to these groove experiments, whose sounds circle round each other cagily, rough meeting smooth, organic meeting synthetic, all combining in a propulsive form thats classic stl. shifty hats on * crank notion* provide an insistent shuffle through which nauseous pads plot a dissonant course. * neat buzzl* is a grimier excursion in the undergrowth, little creatures scurrying left and right while the kick maintains its forward stomp. join stl and assemble music in these off-map excursions and see where you emerge.

red laser seems to be attracting a wealth of young parisian talent as they release more heat from paris via red laser new comer romainn bezzina. bezzina has worked closely with bent producer simon mills to create and compile this ep of sultry analogue baleario disco especially for the manchester label. bezzina s remix of gary low s i want you has already appeared on the recent red laser disco compilation and now gets a re-press on this heavyweight twelve for increased sound quality. bezzina also drops fly away jack, a splendid shuffler reminiscent of van mccoy or bebu silvetti with a touch of love unlimited thrown in. these accompany 2 more tracks of sensual synth deepness including an exclusive vinyl release of bent s exercise 4 to make even the icy sleet of salford turn into the sweltering sun of st tropez.

barker & baumecker and ivvvo remix 2 original tracks from the groovement catalogue and contribute with exclusives for the “10 is not enough” compilation to celebrate the label’s 10 years journey. these 2 reworks are dense, dee023p and rhythmically strong. being distinct, the tracks complement each other giving this 12” a coherent authorship. already being played in clubs such as berghain (berlin) or lux (lisbon) this release marks the label’s longevity and also its connection with the main music cities of the world

ian blevins is from england but hes quite the dude. this is his first offering for the esp institute. on side a, meet the happy beast named hannibal, a big room tune that ticks every box your heart may desire bone dry drum production, atmospheric arpeggios, soaring strings and pads, a beautifully sweeping bass progression and an overall sense of euphoria goosebumps guaranteed. on side b, welcome aunt poly cools us down a little bit stripping back the instrumentation, minimizing any superfluous effects, and layering a sparse bassline and droning synths over a laidback 808 all to a relaxed tempo. blevins debut proves that from the right point of view, familiar elements and motifs can take on a new life whilst reminding us just how the rave can feel. these two songs will increase your serotonin levels.

after contributing a remix for our label in 2011 daniel stefanik now returns to raum with his first solo single under his new moniker dlsk.
the a side * sense of doubt* is a bit more stripped down and melodic, as the b side and also the title track of this release * subterraneans* is more of a jazzy house groove, that simply doesn’t stop rolling and keeps the tension with subtle variations and other nice little gimmicks. as always we truly hope that you enjoy these tracks as much as we do and we are happy to have daniel back on board as for sure he can be called one of germanys top notch producers.
