get ready for a new exciting collaborative project on electric deluxe! >workshops< is a new experimental series of releases by phil kieran and jochem paap (aka speedy j). the idea behind this project is to explore the recording techniques used in the middle of the 20th century and dating right back to the mid 1950s. famous inspirational places like bbc radiophonic workshops in england and philips lab in holland have seen some of the most innovative production techniques, experimenting with the first use of stereo, modular synths, found sounds and reel to reel tapes. the end result was always something space age and promisingly futuristic and still to this day fresh sounding, crisp and exciting. phil kieran and jochem paap have decided to use this inspiration to effortlessly accomplish marrying the past, present and future in an innovative mix of old ideas with new.

first gimme! gimme! release featuring can t live without your love by tamiko jones and the super rare cosmic classic this man by phill & friends band. “can’t live without your love” was popularised by david mancuso s loft cd/lp. originally released in 1979, it’s considered a huge influence as an electronic-disco record and is a massive chicago favourite. this record has been heavily sought after for some time and played by larry levan, ron hardy, gene hunt, frankie knuckles, …… „this man“ was a huge track with dj baldelli at cosmic when it was released in 1980 and it has been top of many collectors wants lists for a long time. very rare and very expensive, this sleazy downtempo rock/dub disco cut really is one of those extraordinary once heard never forgotten tracks.

phil kieran has been in the upper echelons of the electronic music game for more than a decade, but is only now releasing his debut album under his own name. known for rocking clubs and releasing a string of killer twelves, belfast-based phil has hooked up with german powerhouse cocoon in recent times. sven väths label is now about to release shh, a groundbreaking piece of work that will undoubtedly gain phil plaudits across the board. shh seems to not only reference every sound phil has ever loved in music, but is formulated in a completely fresh and futuristic way. listen carefully and you can detect elements of dub reggae, old hardcore like lfo, hip-hop, early 90s electronica such as autechre/black dog and other warp staples, as well as the futuristic techno that phil excels in. for the album phil went back to old sound lab recordings dating back to the 1950s and 60s. utilising some of these sounds in the initial construction, he built up tracks using a combination of old samples sourced from original and weird places and some live new instrumentation as well. there are live drums, some electric / acoustic/ bass guitar and live keyboard playing as well as some choice guest vocalists.
played by 2000 and one, giles smith, nick curly, tobi neumann.... solomun is the owner of diynamic records in hamburg, top notch producer and a splendid dj as well, so a team up with jackmate came only natural. the first two pieces they deliver here, show their love for lush detroit-ish soundscapes, combined with demanding drums and repetitive chord progressions parexcellance! carnivale is like a growing storm on a hot summer day, building its tense with beautiful string arrangements and coming to a climax in rolling thunders of pure bliss! factory is a special little gem of its own, that could run for days, so subtle and charming is the flow of this early morning grower. highly recommended stuff
played by raresh, luciano, kreon, dj sneak, oscar miranda, doc martin, anthony collins.... amazing return by the labels head honcho!! 4 strong chicago flavoured house tracks by phil weeks here!! back in effect is a cool colab with another well known robsoul artist - joss moog!! a must have!!!
played by : karotte (cocoon / great stuff), sebo k (mobilee), tobi neumann (cocoon)... jackmates strikes again on phil e with this 3 track 12inch called >malawi dub< and delivers the perfect follow-up for >mont blanc< (phile2007). the main title >malawi dub< is full of rollin drum and percussion sounds merging to a intense piece of (oldschool)-techno… both titles on the flip >in flux< and >s…..out< are deeper in a way, with charming harmonies and tricky grooves…this is a preview for jackmates upcoming album in 2009. thanks for purchasing a real copy!
more jackin house from phil this was originally on a robsoul ltd release that sold out in a week last year but now back on an official release a must have !! limited backstock

it only takes a mood from the past to make a today s dream come true: phil fuldner and daniel dinsing get back to the very beginning of their love for real house music from the 80 s and 90 s. they may have gone in different ways musically, but with this brilliant-modern backview they pay rescect to what they have shared for the last 25 years: fascination for the real rare groove, funk and house tracks. powerded by two stunning mixes by label owner ian pooley, this release will shurely make its way into people s hearts and record cases..
since the year 2000, belfastian dj and producer phil kieran is providing us with a constant flow of outstanding records and remixes – among them for novamute and soma – with his energetic sound from the capital of northern ireland. not least has he gotten awareness with his alloy mental project on fatboy slims label skint. his new maxi for cocoon designs two blueprints of uncompromising techno between tradition and modernity. whereas the post-acid sounding a side can be indeed called >wasps under a toy boat<, displaying ongoing >wasp sounds< which are shifted against each other, the break- and bass-orientated b side >tartan paint< sets new standards regarding the sound abstraction beyond popular expectational attitudes. and thus stays a highly functional dj weapon for intelligent techno bashes.
jackmates return on phil e records is total understatement: >mont blanc< feels like a sunrise with the beams of sonic rays atop of a floating, intense drumtrack. timeless-techno-one-sided! no wonder this one is dj koze s favourite techno track at the moment
phil asher is back with his phlash & friends project for archive records and is once again a heavy double a sider! after the critically acclaimed success of political 06 and revolution = solution phil shows his songwriting skills with look at what ve done, a collaboration with top producer zed bias wich features the vocals of fyza. a favourite of dego, benji b, volcov and soon many more its bound to become a classic! the flipside is minotaur a dancefloor smasher already tested by phil on the ministry of sound soundsystem with maximum results. percussive, heavy yet deep the song features j. kincaid on keys...another of the friends of the project. watch out for the full album in the next months...
