as far as i know is the new project by electronic music veteran eduardo de la calle. under this new moniker, eduardo is exploring the roots of detroit electro whilst sticking to his signature sound of trippy melodies and rhythms, which we were able to experience through so many quality releases over the last decades. this first ep by as far as i know, which also includes a collaboration with nathan surreal on b2 (fact speak itself), takes us on a trip back to the future and deep into the realm of sci-fi related electro, idm, and techno. pressed on 180g hand-stamped quality wax.

lay-far returns to gamm with three slices of jazzy disco numbers that got joyful dancing written all over them. he s carefully selected his fave disco, jazz-funk and fusion tracks from herbie mann (etagui), fsb (morning) and mass production (cosmic lust) that were just asking for that special moscow edit touch. gentle perfection!

two of russian electronic music’s rising stars, phil gerus and alexander lay-far, invite you to join them at the solitary high social club. while table service is provided, they’d much rather you throw caution to the wind and head to the dancefloor.
before joining forces in the studio, both moscow-based musicians have delivered a string of memorable solo productions. lay-far has previously released a wealth of material on such labels as local talk, city fly, lazy days and 4lux black, while synthesizer fetishist gerus has showcased his electrofunk and disco-fired cuts on futureboogie recordings, sonar kollektiv, public release and superior elevation records.
the five tracks that make up solitary high social club deliver a perfect marriage of the two producers’ distinctive solo styles, combining the rich musicality of lay-far’s house productions with the spacey, intergalactic electronics of gerus’s discoid adventures. in many ways, it’s a marriage made in heaven – or in lay-far’s celebrated in-beat-ween studio, at least.

rene lavice’s journey continues with his third lp on formative drum & bass imprint ram records, a label whose history spans across two decades. after being exclusively signed, following his pivotal ‘headlock’ release, the canadian stalwart has remained a centrepiece of ram’s roster and his back catalogue is nothing short of groundbreaking. the same consistency has been administered to his forthcoming ‘far from perfect’ package, whilst building on the foundations of both ‘insidious’ and ‘play with fire’ to present another look into his versatile capabilities. as well as a plethora of taste-making singles and the announcement of his bbc radio 1 residency last year, rene’s career has flourished, alongside the creativity which streams through each one of his records.

there was only ever going to be one choice to launch first floor. not only is dubbyman the cover star of our debut publication of the same name, but he s also the face and sound of influential spanish label deep explorer, in-demand producer/remixer and long-time favourite with us. so the opportunity to collaborate on a special edition 7- vinyl release was one we couldn t miss. so far, featuring south african vocalist and musician ras vadah from the therapy collektive, is an extended version of the laidback, jazzy opening teaser from dubbyman s debut album deep is dead. deep explorer stalwart leo gunn, on remix duties for the first time, takes the same track and gives it a piano-driven, dance-floor focused spin. the accompanying fanzine not only includes interviews with both dubbyman and gunn, but also features articles on johannes albert, tommo & jonno, jesus gonsev, arnheim, sensible soccers and more.

in recent years mark reeve has become a pivotal member of the drumcode crew. his 2015 ep debut run back was a standout, before he backed it up strongly with nine of you , his collaboration with adam beyer that featured on a-sides vol.4, ensuring his place in the hearts of dc fans.

rudy returns to faze action records with an all-new collection of atmospheric and evocative tropical sounds. last august saw the release of the by nature ep that encapsulated the steamy and exotic textures of the balearic sound. this time, midnight safari takes up where on the beaches of formentera, where the last ep left us. this time setting sail on a midnight safari with marimba s and chugging rhythms underpinning sophisticated piano melodies. following this we drop anchor and appreciate the evening breeze of in the air with its haunting cello, endless drifting arpeggio s and tropical percussion with a hint of north africa. reach backless points the way squarely to the dance floor with chunky drums and synth bass, synth hooks galore and that piano solo that launches into starry evening skies. it s back down to earth with the settled quiet bass guitar harmonics of windchimes before heading into the more soulful and synth melodic territory of solar plex.

the first release on black wattle comes from sydney talent thomas gray. the ep, ‘never far enough, sits somewhere between a record for home and a record for the dancefloor. part ambient, part spacious percussion, toms ep has the ability to relax you after a long day or keep you moving into the night. it is also toms first time being pressed on wax.

the first single taken from the forthcoming 3rd album by lay-far! never good enough for you is a deeply intimate and emotionally charged love message, written in collaboration with the acclaimed singer and songwriter stee downes. rough and edgy but equally soulful beat, showcasing heavy influences from hip-hop, broken beat and house, forms a perfect foundation for the heart-felt story of emotional struggle and break-up, delivered by stee downes! autobiographical song for both the songwriter and the producer. the single comes packaged with an instrumental version and a remix. the latter is a slightly more straightforward and politically-correct vision of the song, also produced by lay-far, using roland tr-707 drum machine instead of the gritty chopped drum breaks of the original. last but not least comes the bonus track -blow my mind bottom-heavy banger on the edge of funky breakbeats, bruk and classic electro a 2018 modern fusion ode to b-boying and breaking boundaries! watch out for the second single and the full-length album war is over, coming out later this year!

faze action records, (far), next release unearths the disco wonder of unreleased music by andromeda orchestra. the lead track has been expertly remixed by legendary dj nick the record, extending the percussion, bass, keyboard sections and then teasing in the vocals towards the end to turn the track into a peak time disco burner which sits comfortably alongside disco old and new. on a2 we have high steppin which see s andromeda orchestra heading for a more stripped down instrumental track, tight percussion and keys drive home another floor filler. b1 we have the original mix of get up & dance, staying true to a classic disco arrangement. with b2 ,andromeda orchestra exit with a more laid back funk/disco groove perfect for the warm up.

“magic / chance to go far” is the first single off the “joseph ep” and is built on top of a tom misch guitar loop with a bumping 4/4 beat, swirling synthesizers and trish’s soulful vocals. stay tuned for much more to come!

london based disco outfit faze action team up with celebrated anglo/brazilian artist, nina miranda for proto house crossover. faze action have always managed to take different musical traditions and blend them to create sounds that are somehow familiar whilst simultaneously containing the unexpected. last year s mangwana, featured long time faze action collaborator, zeke manyika, singing in his native zimbabwean shona over faze action s infectious disco production. this time, british/brazilian singer, artist and all round creative force de majeur, nina miranda, takes things further with her invitation to vamos pintar or let s paint, in portuguese. on the surface there is the familiar faze action restyled proto house but it soon becomes apparent that the brothers have appropriated more than just a brazilian vocal. punchy 808 drums and fizzy synths are infused with brazilian caixa and pandaro as if they had always been designed to co-exist. the remixes come from the illustrious max essa, whose british born/tokyo resident background chimes well with the international nature of this latest offering. his slo-mo bubble dub simmers with mediterranean sun that reclines into romantic piano flourishes and dubbed out vocals, whilst the extended dub manages to draw out the original elements at their original tempo. faze action s own paradise 90 dub closes the package by keeping close to the original arrangement with added economy and plenty of dub delay of course.
