kevin saunderson s kms imprint is a label that should require no introduction. the motor city label has been a techno mainstay since it s inception in 1987. numerous detroit luminaries have released classic after classic on the labels hallowed grooves over the last 25+ years and its influence is still felt in contemporary dance music today. the idea behind the kms origins series is to shine a light on the lesser known cuts in the kms vaults as well as the classics that have given the label it s legendary status during its lifetime.

tresor records proudly presents the second chapter in mønic’s musical journey on the label. head of osiris music, mønic is an accomplished producer whose style can be defined as raw yet exceptionally refined, allowing for a certain industrial inspiration to ooze from his exquisite sound design. ‘four sides of truth’ opens a conversation between pristenely defined low frequencies and an infinity of fleeting, chirping synth layers. this discussion will continue throughout the record, taking additional drums into the exchange and swirling into ‘point to the sun’ in full panning effect. on the other side, lower frequencies undoubtedly take over and win the argument in ‘self doubt is worthless’. uk-based kamikaze space programme contributes with a revisited version of ‘morse’, initially released on the parsons hill ep. preserving the abrasive textures of the original, ksp dramatically raises the track’s thrilling factor.

for the 5th installment in the prrukwht series, spanish hardware icon eduardo de la calle returns to planet rhythm with his adept to the light ep. tr3b conspiracy serves as the opener which combines odd rhythmic arps and subtly placed drum sequences to make a somewhat uncanny atmosphere. on the b side we find ranchor will cut the mood which is a repetitive techno cut that should be useful for after hours. the doubt of the unknown (b2) has a somewhat foreboding title. it’s a fx heavy synth jam that uses oddball synthesis and nicely placed fx chains that evolve throughout.

tired of just rumbling low ends and mindless battering, stefan vincent points us in a more melodic direction. a rather melancholic and dystopian one, showing off his understanding of harmonics and tone sections. these compositions in minor and major hint towards equally feeling, futuristic atmospheres in which human kind is more and more affected by its unsatisfiable hunger for technology and perfection. guided by the terrifying beauty of this vision, stefan takes us on a four track tour through this world. a world in which we will have become merely observers of ourselves and we can only be let down. we can only watch as we rise towards being doubtful sentients. we can only listen as we wait for the machines to catch up with us.

after contributing a remix for our label in 2011 daniel stefanik now returns to raum with his first solo single under his new moniker dlsk.
the a side * sense of doubt* is a bit more stripped down and melodic, as the b side and also the title track of this release * subterraneans* is more of a jazzy house groove, that simply doesn’t stop rolling and keeps the tension with subtle variations and other nice little gimmicks. as always we truly hope that you enjoy these tracks as much as we do and we are happy to have daniel back on board as for sure he can be called one of germanys top notch producers.
