after long years of work the author of unique and successful albums shallow and profound (2000) & splendid isolation (2005) is back with his new long-player, passive control, which is considered to be the third, closing part of the trilogy. passive control is another typical contradictory, multilayered yonderboi title that can be explained in different ways. one of them refers to the constantly changing and unpredictable economical/social situation of today, which is witnessed by most of us inertly, hoping that this recession-thing gets sorted out soon.

after breaking our new years resolutions at a tiki bar deep in the woods, numbolics very 1st release in 2012 is a production by our lovely french friend kane roth. with an elegant drift kane and the remixers d.diggler and dualism made four outstanding kicking minimal tracks while creating her typically sort of breeziness. she delicately placed all the charming arrangements very well in order to sound super authentically rooted. dance baby, dance!

marianne faithfuls more commercial album >dangerous acquaintances< from 1981 is now being reissued on 180 grams vinyl for the first time since its original released. the album, whose title refers to the french novel >les liaisons dangereuses< contains amongst others the song >for beautys sake<, which she co-wrote with steve winwood.

it might seem odd for a band without a full-length to enjoy this sort of praise. but escort is definitely not your typical band. escort is big. literally. the seventeen-member disco orchestra, founded by producers eugene cho and dan balis, and fronted by lead singer adeline michele, features an incredible cast of musicians who have played with everyone from indie-rock titans arcade fire to avant-classical luminaries alarm will sound. scissor sisters frontman jake shears recently described escort as the >best disco you have ever heard<. he just might be right.

studio one women is the latest in the series of studio one compilations released by soul jazz records. ska, rocksteady, funky reggae, roots, dub mixes, disco mixes, they are all here from the queens of the jamaican music scene. studio one women features a wide mix of classics and obscurities from the finest female voices in reggae. until now most of these tracks have only ever been available as extremely hard to find jamaican 7 inch and 12 inch singles and even if you were lucky enough to find them they d cost you a small fortune! marcia griffiths and rita marley (here with her first group the soulettes) are two of jamaicas most famous female singers hugely popular today. both these artists became internationally famous as the i – threes (along with judy mowatt), bob marleys backing singers alongside the wailers. also featured are hortense ellis, sister of alton who cut many smash hit on the island and jennifer lara, a lady who had a long career with studio one, singing on countless sides until she sadly passed away earlier this year. studio one is the greatest label in the history of reggae and is the foundation of all reggae music. it is where virtually every world renowned jamaican superstar started out, bob marley and the wailers included. under the guidance of the legendary clement >coxsone< dodd the musicians at studio one recorded hundreds of instrumental rhythms which still provide the backbone for many of the records made in jamaica today.

following up the scorching debut release another night, deep&disco recordings sidesteps the sophomore slump with elisco, an infectious electro-funk groover that both cements the labels commitment to quality and expands their musical range.
a chunky nu-disco track with hints of metro area and a catchy vocal hook, the seeds of elisco were planted in the early 2000s when label founder jkriv and lou teti were sharing a loft space in williamsburg, brooklyn. after an afternoon of cowbells and synths, the skeleton of the track had its shape, and their other roomates girlfriend was enlisted to sing the hook. she had no singing experience (or rhythmic sense) to speak of, but somehow it all worked and elisco was born! although its always been a personal favorite of the producer duo, the song remained shelved for almost 7 years until they dusted it off in early 2011 and readied it for release on the newly minted deep&disco recordings.
providing remixes for the vinyl release are the legendary leftside wobble, who turns in an extended and bpm-d-up version quite true to the original, taking the machine vibes to the next level with added loops and fx. brightons alphabet city brings the disco-boogie sensibility to the package with a deep mix that features jkriv on live bass, and whiskey disco regular sleazy mcqueen rounds it out with an indie dance stomper.

from the very outset, the m.c.d.e. remix of shit robots >answering machine< picks up in a completely different realm from marcus lambkins original, which appears on his 2010 debut, from the cradle to the rave. the stuttgart-based producer has replaced janine >planningtorock< rostrons slowly rising vocal opener with outerspace emanations that fade as they drift into a constellation of wide house grooves and deep bass. rostrons own pizzo remix is up next, and in (a)typical fashion, she takes the song and shifts its mood by clearing away the dancier elements of its predecessor in favor of a foundation of strings in every form: plucked pizzicato notes, low cellos tones, and high pitched violins that flit through. last up is another rostron creation, the whisper remix, which actually outpaces lambkins version in bpm, but is lighter all the same. here, she uses synths almost as a wash of white noise – a whisper, if you will – and only drops heavier vocals here and there along the songs rustling path.

a side >under< from evol intent featuring vocals from singer/song writer jackie b. this dubstep track is dark, sexy, melodic, and poppy, with a bass riff and drums that encourages you to urgently to hit the dance floor, and shake your ass. the vocals are sexy and consistent. she reminds me of esthero in how she can make underground production sound so polished. yet she can take you places emotionally because she makes intelligent choices her vocal tonality. the production is dark, and sounds like a eerie episode of a twin peaks score. you will be hearing lots more music from her really soon. she is also a great producer as well. nicole atkins (born october 1, 1978) is an american singer-songwriter best known for her work with the band nicole atkins & the sea. her sound is known for its mix of traditional vocal styles and introspective lyrics. she has been compared to roy orbison and singers from the brill building era.

the album also features a song co-written by agnetha fältskog. although she had composed much of her swedish solo output, the song disillusion , for which she wrote the music, is the only song released on an abba album to feature a songwriting contribution from her.
