its the big 5! berlin frankfurt based label house is ok is celebrating its five-year long presence and has decided to mark that period with something special labels story started with a sticker homeboy printed in his former hometown, zagreb, saying house is ok. catchy, right? it became an underground slogan of the local scene. it didnt take long for people to embrace the idea stating that its ok to be into melodic, fresh, groovy yet, at times, a bit awkward dance music. just around the same time homeboys frankfurt based bros oliver achatz and janis played with the idea of starting a record label. guess what the logical choice for the name was? ten records, dozens of original songs and remixes later house is ok continues to grow. literally. what was once a platform for the original three founders is now an international family affair supporting the talented artists from frankfurt, stockholm, alexandria and orlando. nurturing the friendly approach this musical family continues to grow. looking back at the first five years, not only at the music that connected them all but at the bonds that deepened through the production process, house is ok crew wanted to take create a proper reminder and thank the ones supporting them throughout the years. a double 12 pack titled gemišt seemed like a proper way to do that. „gemišt will be released as two separate eps featuring the original music from kornél kovacs, roman flügel, gavri & mcqueen, tcb, house of life and the label makers themselves. oliver and janis deliver tracks under their known names, while homeboy introduces his new project with fellow wilde renate resident the swift, called longhair. croatian artist ugruv smek marks his yearlong collaboration with the label delivering yet another smashing artwork.

to differentiate between his solo dance-oriented work to the darker tones, kaczmarek aka paul ritch launched his new album titled iiiiiiiiiiiiii on october 30th on his fresh imprint kczmrk. kczmrk is definitely a more personal project for paul, helping him define a newly found darker and more genuine taste to produce electronic music, which would even the most demanding audience left surprised. kaczmareks immersive sounds on his debut album were highly supported by respected artists of the underground scene such as sterac, vril, lewis fautzi, vsk and djedjotronic, who will contribute reworks that will come out in a remix ep in february 2018. the 12inch is gently introduced with a sophisticated remix of iiiii by techno pioneer sterac aka steve rachmad, continuing with vril’s remix of iiiiiiiiii who delivers beautiful ambient tones in a euphoric travel of sound. the b side begins with emerging talent lewis fautzi and his iiiis remix in a deep and hypnotic cut, followed by the curtesy of vsk and djedjotronics remixes of iiiiiiiii. vsk sticks to the dark and hard forms of techno with glimmer of deeper and industrial sounds while djedjotronic enrich kaczmareks dark techno tones with some futuristic idm.

lvis mejía s newest project, titled anthropology of amnesia is an acousmatic essay addressing our utter necessity to remember in the face of existential oblivion, an innate behaviour of the human race. presented as a 33 minute long continuous composition, anthropology of amnesia unrolls as a series of chapters, the contemplative character of the piece opening a particular frame within the listening experience, where lvis mejía attempts to convey the phenomenon of the collective consciousness through the cultural traces we leave behind. mejía s takes the idea of -one species, one culture, one past- and places it at the center of the concept of the piece. anthropology of amnesia examines a number of interpretations of rituals, orchestrations, chants, synthesis and field recordings - nestled within the piece are recordings of animals, fire, water and a human heart - the sum of these sonic identities incidentally reshaping their roots. the diversity of the sonic sources highlights the comparative study element of mejía s work yet the common thread remains the human experience, recorded stories and the viva voce.

recorded while gerald was in jamaica working on a project with lee perry in 1980. the master tapes of the four tracks that were recorded at the harry j sessions were only recently discovered. utopia was the only track that had been given a final mix back in the day. it was released on 7- on the black star liner later in the year and then reissued on partial records in 2014. the other tracks were never mixed until early 2017 when this task was undertaken by dougie wardrop. as well as mixing jerusalem (gerald did a later version of this tune for rej forte s jah works label in the early 1990s), working for the dollar and constant spring , it was decided that utopia should also enjoy a fresh mix.

aktion mutante (violet poison and unhuman) is a synth-punk project recalling the ‘80s minimal-wave melancholic vibes with new school ebm/ cyber-punk noise cuts. the realistic mutation of the human body into a surreal and ascetic mind setting of an apocalyptic contemporary society. a live force with analogue machines. aktion mutante’s alchemy of splintered synth-punk, bloody ebm and haunting wave injects right into the veins and spreads quickly through the body. the duo of violet poison (veleno viola) and unhuman (liber null) couldnt be more suited for each other. after meeting at liber null’s duality event in 2015, the two artists clicked immediately and were able to record some material in italy during the winter of 2016. the result is this suburb 12inch which is composed of six tracks and was mixed by aconito records, london and mastered by andrea merlini, utrecht.

isle of jura’s second longplayer reissue is an album from ingleton falls that touches upon ambient, dub, house and balearic styles and was originally released in 1991 as a limited run of 100 self distributed cassette tapes ingleton falls are andy hannam seymour and andy eardley from tyne and wear in newcastle. having come from a more traditional band background originally, ingleton falls was their electronic project and the result of a love of acts like dub syndicate, african headcharge, gary clail, the orb and the klf.

just as magnified record grooves reveal dust constellations and lunar landscapes, so too does godblesscomputers’ third album. “solchi” is a deep search into previous moments in lorenzo nada’s lifetime, influenced by the presence and power of music. his process began with the recovery of some old cassettes, mixtapes nearly forgotten, audio recording of voices from his childhood, and lots of dusty jazz, soul, and hip-hop records. as the starting point of this travel merge with its end, past and present combine to form gbc’s current sound. warm electronic production rooted by grooving bass lines form the core of a kaleidoscope of sixteen tracks, colored by synthesizers, guitar echoes, scratches, samples, fading voices and kalimba. the album is a collection of sixteen stories, sixteen soundscapes, each of them gbc’s tribute to the path taken thus far, an homage to his love for music. the recording and studio work took place over a year, with the adding and subtracting of many elements. for this project, gbc invited several musicians into his home studio, both old friends and new. they helped to recreate the sounds of the original recovered recording, as well as add fresh ideas to the project.

the no man is an island ep is a single cut from the debut album of the same name by aalko, a new project by kebko music founder akiko kiyama. renowned for her minimal techno track featured in richie hawtin s seminal de9 transitions album, the japanese producer reveals her another side under this new alias. the project has already created a stir as aalko has garnered support from gilles peterson on his bbc 6 music radio show and premiered a live performance at mutek’s tokyo launch, where she drew the audience into an inspiring frenzy.

(à) and finally, whenever you are hungry and thirsty, theres someone who chases you away (arthur rimbaud) in the woods there is a birdà is both an ongoing sound and publication project by olaf nicolai, published as a contribution to documenta 14 and the documenta 14 radio program. it is based on archival sound material extracted from radio reports, employing radio as a source (rather than a medium of transmission): background sounds of demonstrations, riots, rallies, originally recorded for radio stations all over the world, are used as source material for this soundtrack composed of these various ambiences. the real sounds are defined by a lack of reference that is usually added by the auditive or written indices that surround and date them. the affiliated artist book in the woods there is a birdà reflects not only the process of detaching, mixing, referencing and re-referencing in a visual essay. it also offers for this new composition an index and frames the recorded sounds by presenting a list of the places and dates the events. the artist book in the woods there is a birdàis published by koenig books.

reality check a one-off project from freddy turner & jason hernandez who dropped this soulful, street-tough slice of house on strictly rhythm back in 1998. this is one of those hidden gems, tucked away in the recesses of the strictly catalogue, so it may well have slipped by under the radar save for a few dedicated heads and vinyl junkies! it s got that nyc sound, hard drums, vocal samples, tripped out loops and stabs. perfect dj material if you re into the funked out stripped back house sounds of the mid to late 90s, this one will certainly be (in) your bag. fantasy has been given some tasty 2017 remastering treatment and repressed onto a high quality, weighty 12inch for all you fiends out there, this one will keep them moving in the mix. perfect nyc house sounds here, untouched and represented in its original 1998 form, no sleeping permitted!

boris bunnik is no stranger in the world of electronic music. he released several albums and ep’s under a variety of monikers since 2007 on labels like delsin, shipwrec, frustrated funk and his own transcendent imprint. fauxpas musik welcomes him for a new project called severnaya.
originally hailing from the island of terschelling, the most northern and remote part of the netherlands he now made a piece of music dedicated to this special place. severnaya means north in russian and refers to the bright frozen landscapes of the northern archipels. boris often plays with the influences and elements of ambient in his music. if we have to believe the man himself, polar skies is his most personal sound trajectory to come from his mind. drum programming is scarce and what remains is a lush and profound listening experience floating on scapes and melodies. we clearly hear his roots and intentions represented in the airy, tranquil sound design of this new album project. things sound spacious, and life is at ease in these melancholic compositions. crispy crackling percussions and icey pads place you in the midst of a resonant arctic landscape. you can hear influences drawn from producers like biosphere, pub, brian eno but we also hear more contemporary influences from modern day film composition but most of all we here boris his own signature. the tracks were composed over a couple of years (2015-2017) in a more contemplative mindset. at some point this selection formed a consistent piece of music and as a result you hear his most personal and fragile works to date. fauxpas musik is proud to release this new project in 2018. written and produced by boris bunnik aka conforce at the pasadenaoceanlab studios special thanks to family, friends and fauxpas musik for their support. this release comes in 180g vinyl and a hot foil stamping on the cover. vinyl tastes better...

last year i linked up with redbull france. they brought me out to paris for a week, paid for my records, and let me craft beats in their studio (i ended up moving the equipment to my hotel room due to smoking restrictions). the idea was to use strictly french samples, then hook me up with a bunch of dope new young artists from france and brussels to make songs out of the beats. the final piece to the project was a sold out show in france where i presented each artist and they performed both the songs we did and their own hit songs. the project came out dope, i linked up with some really talented artists, and ended up making more than enough joints. this is the instrumental version of the project. only 1000 pieces made. enjoy. alchemist

dj punkadelix a.k.a. mayu kondo who based in tokyo, will starts a new project of music production called mayudepth. this ep titled -sneakpeek- featuring the voice by fashion model rie miyamoto and includes remix version by akiko kiyama who is an artist play on a global stage.the cover work shot by a female photographer masami sano and artwork by mayu kondo herself, this album artwork expresses her unique way of seeing things as a collaboration package with female artists working in various fields.the label is “shiki kyokai” which owner by dj shuffle master,who is an innovator of japanese techno sound, which continues to release from overseas top labels such as tresor and bpitch control.

initial programs is a new project by respected ambient producer mick chillage. it is also micks first ever vinyl release and sees the irish artist focus on deep, acid-tinged techno and melodic electro. the background to the release is a simple one, first cut boss richard be was a long admirer of mick’s music and discovered an electro project he did as the shape. over the course of emails, pints and coffees, the music for initial programs first record came together. the resulting three tracks are melancholic, late night jams, the soundtrack to high speed cruises on the streets of south dublin.

villa Åbo in the alternative solo project of swedish musician and producer jan svensson, who has been making electronic music for the better part of 30 years as the artist behind such aliases as frak, studio ss and alvars orkestra. svensson also runs legendary swedish dance and experimental music label börft, the product of a mutual appreciation for severed heads and terse tapes. as villa Åbo he released two records in 1997 on börft and remained inactive for 17 years until the dutch label bio rhythm coaxed him into revisiting the project and released a double 12&#8243,, in 2014. jan has since followed with a steady stream of 12” singles for kontra-musik, noise in my head and radio lundberg.
“magnetic moves” is villa Åbo’s debut album, originally released in an limited edition of 65 hand-numbered cassettes by funeral fog in 2016.
clocking in at over 46 minutes, this first-ever vinyl edition spreads the 8 ragged techno tracks across four sides for maximum loudness. some songs are aggressively potent, with cyclical synth riffs and razor-sharp acid lines riding a heavy, funk-fuelled techno groove. others tracks are more fluid, vintage underground resistance or derrick may with killer drum machine workouts that come in handy as dj tools. all songs have been remastered by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the record is housed in a custom made jacket designed by eloise leigh, featuring a photograph of jan’s mother’s house, the meaning behind “villa Åbo”. each copy includes a double-sided postcard with notes.

after his well acclaimed soundtrack lp on hivern discs, brussels based producer lawrence le doux is returning to homebase vlek for his next offering. and what a project it has become: le doux, heads first, dived deep into the belgian national history of electronic music, and came up with a sampler covering the various fields the belgians have explored over the last 30 years. from digi dub over simple drum computer house to one­man industrial cassettes: host has it all.

prolific producer mathis mootz is very well known within the drum/bass and hardcore techno arenas as being one of the innovative pioneers to merge both genres with an unique approach. his contribution to the electronic music community is not limited to his explorations within only the drum and bass and hardcore genres, mathis also has various experimental projects, most noteworthy being his m2 ( squaremeter ) project with releases on mille pleateux, ant-zen and hands productions. the sound of m2 is defined as a combination of micro sound and industrial soundscapes. the panacea is no stranger to the world of techno as some may suspect, his command of the position chrome record label came from his close relationship with force inc. music works which was one of the earliest german record labels to fuel the underground techno/rave scenes in the early 90’s. since position chrome came under his guidance in 1997 it has become one of the most important labels in electronic music due to it’s integrity and an impressive release of quality music for it’s genre. more recently, he has been investigating the techno landscape with david frisch together known as new frames, their latest release on hands productions is essential for those interested in contemporary electronic music of the dark techno/industrial kind. “ above the absolute “ is a 12’’ of mercenary techno produced with expert skill. the opening track “ above the absolute 96 “ is pure sound wave balance with all the components for what is sure to light any dance floor on fire. “ most basic resolution “ is a dark, mood shifting, hard acid techno reminder of what it means to create music for warehouses, pure old school for the hardcore. “ overdrive ee “ continues in a more contemporary direction and demonstrates a mastery of percussive elements in tune with the kind of atmosphere that brings people together in the dark. the final track “ walter “ goes back into the future with a track aimed at the headstrong, an exceptional closing chapter that hits dead centre on the search of the perfect beat. an overall completely impressive work from an artist who has set no limitations for himself.

for the second in its new special collector series, music for dreams has asked long-time friend of the label moonboots to pick out a selection of songs with the power to encapsulate moods of calm and moments of contemplation. the result is the exquisite “moments in time” moonboots has been a fixture of the manchester scene since the balearic boom in the late 80s. he runs the prolific vinyl label aficionado recordings together with fellow dj jason boardman, a project that started out as a sunday club night. since 2012, they’ve dished out more than a handful of 12” releases with an ever-surprising selection of underground acts at the fringes of what might be called balearic.

clocking in at 11 minutes, this is a radical deconstruction of the track bint el khandaq that appears on the mashrou leila album ibn el leil. lost souls of saturn tease out the underlying emotion and yearning present in the original and take the listener on a beguiling, symphonic ambient journey that calls to mind wolfgang voigts much loved gas project, or the shimmering imaginary landscapes of brian eno. renowned for their rousing, sensual electro-pop mashrou leilas songs touch on political freedom, lgbt rights, race, religion and modern arabic identity. lost souls of saturn were approached by the band to reinterpret the original track and the stunning results fit perfectly as their debut release on r&s. this is the next step in the evolution of seth troxler and phil moffas lost souls of saturn project. look out for an album on r&s in 2018.

pater noster presents their fifth release, aposynthesis by overloper, a side project of ekman.
the a-side brims with tension both contemplative and active. ‘hope you’re close’ is a deep burner, with heavy, pounding bass and an entrancing hook ascending to space. this then escalates into the urgency of ‘aposynthesis (need more sisa)’, in which a driving, rolling rhythm is juxtaposed with an old school, dutch-style rave synth.
the b-side encircles around acid. on one hand, it is coyly playful with ‘carpe noctem’ turning cavernous in innsyter’s dark interpolation of the other.

instant chapter is an associative label established by 4 former hellyum s collective members. it has been created in order to put forward raw, instant and free productions. this project aims at bringing isolated electronic music producers out of the shadow so that their work can come to an end and be released. instant chapter thrives on its members diversified horizons. therefore, the label doesn t have any limitation in terms of genres or formats, and every chapter that will compound its history will aspire in exploring one of the many faces indie music can represent.

third release mosaique records msq003 dmt/jasss mick wills edit cut that s an another dark electronic music experience, which includes new edit and cut by german musician and producer mick wills, known by his releases on such labels as nation, minimalrome, rush hour etc. side a super rare, almost unknown track by a russian industrial project dmt (dmitry tolmatsky/1970-2009), grabbed by mosaique label owner alexander moralez from diy audio-cassette. thereafter it had some edits on mick wills studio. side b mick s cut on never released track flexion by jasss (releases on mannequin anunnaki cartel). limited edition, vinyl only, a&b sides 45rpm.

with every album project comes a proper remix pack. marco bailey has invited some of his most respected colleagues in modern day techno to come up with an interpretation of two of temper’s toughest cuts.
“planet mad” is being reworked by marcel fengler and andre kronert. fengler’s rework is an adventurous take on the original and has a strong emphasis on rhythm. without loosing with the original idea, fengler builds the rhythm section into a wash of bold drums and rich percussion. andre kronert’s take on “planet mad” pushes the track s idea into a different direction. kronert yet again proves to be a craftsman when it comes to textures and builds. while the recognizable bass sound of the original keeps thumping, atypical bits of fx are added to build on an unusual but very soothing atmosphere.
for the b side, “naga” is being reshaped by croatian master of electronics petar dundov and rotterdam based fast riser, koen hoets. petar dundov comes up with an esoteric take on “naga”. whilst respecting the form of the original, dundov goes one notch deeper with his wide array dub elements and feral hat sounds. koen hoets delivers a more demure take on “naga”. whilst the rhythm section might not be suitable for all club situations, this is adventurous techno at its best. noteworthy fx and soul touching strings that float throughout.

alan abrahams aka portable aka bodycode is an artist very much defined by his past and his journey from south africa to paris via berlin and lisbon has seen him develop into a critically acclaimed producer, singer and video artist working with some of the biggest players in house and techno. part of his constant drive to evolve and challenge himself, this autumn abrahams launches new project ranger, teaming up with london label waella s choice for the debut release. the five tracks on portable presents ranger are a delicate mélange of jazz , soul and electronic and one of abraham s most explicit nods to his south african roots. on the a-side, the ep makes a steady start with bazokonwaba accompanied by a lullaby from south african a capella group korus, hailing from the small township of mbekweni in the western cape. they also feature heavily on the ep s most exuberant moment in nomaliso - already a favourite in esa s recent boiler room - and the more languid b-side opener indaba with a choir of cowbells all harmonizing in unison. reset and vessel provide a self-reflective conclusion to the ep, holding their own as instrumentals with cameroonian bass player stan on bass and parisian saxophonist chisneg lending a hand on the latter. early support from tama sumo, lakuti, gilles peterson, rinse fm, esa, stamp the wax, dimensions recordings

part four in alden tyrell s latest project: vorm variaties , a 5 release series consisting of tracks recorded in the last 2 years. the vorm variaties tracks were a style excercise for tyrell, flexing his producermuscle while health issues forced him to stop touring. initially he had no intention to release these tracks but we consider them to good not to put out, infact we were almost forced to start these series because of them! all tracks selected are variations on classic techno forms, using classic style ingredients and the 909. all 5 variaties are different in style, yet all homogenous, all with alden tyrell s sound signature... on point production skills and stripped down arrangements.

for almost a decade, spains ramiro lopez has established himself as one his countrys leading proponents of techno, with strong releases across labels that include suara, intec, octopus recordings and bedrock. he first debuted on drumcode in 2015 with the rousing collaborative track clap your hands that ranked among one of the labels standout tracks for the year. with one drumcode release already under his belt in 2017 and a new label project odd recordings with fellow dc cohort arjun vagale recently launched, hes enjoying another strong year. his return to the label comes in the form of being alone , a powerful trio of cuts, all of which featured in adam beyers awakenings festival day 1 performance. the title track is a multi-layered weapon, propelled by a dizzying vocal, swirling synth effects and pin-sharp percussion that build toward a smooth classy finish. dark science is an effective stomper brought to life by a bell chime hookline and undulating synth melody ensuring its peak-time prowess. der raum rounds out the ep, highlighted by lopez s deft drum work, proceeded by a driving, euphoric climax.

originally released in 1993 by the italian imprint minus habens records, -concrete jungle- is the second album by this seminal project of dirk ivens (the klinik, absolute body control). a work considered as groundbreaking by lot of fans of early 90s industrial, noise and ebm. there are few electro-pioneers that are still active and successful and mr. ivens is one of them, inspiring a lot of acts to follow in the past three decades. -concrete jungle- is being released for the first time on vinyl in a limited/numbered edition of 700 copies. double record including all the original tracks plus the -extended play- ep (1994) and some songs from old compilations. artwork based on the original design and presented on a deluxe gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves and numbered card.

samuel van dijk is an electronic music producer, sound designer and media artist from the netherlands releasing deep electronic music as vc-118a, mohlao, and multicast dynamics. drawing inspiration from technology, nature, film, and fiction, his productions and live sets embody a dynamic musical framework. since the dutchman surfaced as mohlao for labels like meanwhile, field and other heights at the turn of the decade, van dijk?s music has found a firm position, the ethereal electro vc-118a project, deep ambient techno as mohlao, and subterranean ambient as multicast dynamics.

repress - keeping up the urgent pace set by the strength in numbers collection, thema now turns to a modern master of the jakbeat, d’marc cantu. hailing from ann arbor on the fringes of detroit, cantu has worked for more than a decade developing a sound that carries the torch from the box jam originators of techno and house music. his first appearances were alongside the mighty tadd mullinix (better known as james t. cotton) with their 2 am/fm project, before bringing traxx into the fold for the x2 venture. as a solo artist cantu has shored up on labels as highly regarded as crème organization, m>o>s, nation and desire, bringing a rich, full-bodied sound laden with powerful synth hooks, crafty drum programming and a live, jammed-out delivery that overflows with imagination. given his adventurous tendencies and punchy midwestern finish, cantu is a perfect fit on thema and the six tracks that make up this record show a great deal of the diversity the man is capable of, from dancefloor burners to atmospheric introspections

as ever, the next project on opilec music is one with a rich back story this time paying homage to a very specific disco scene of the early 80s: it finds label boss i-robots turning out one of his brilliant reconstructions, namely of a classic and cult track by one hit wonders ahzz. this track was first released on land of hits, a label run by peter brown (who also wrote -material girl- for madonna) and michael campbell and has now been officially licensed for this reissue by opilec music. the track, new york s movin was huge on the new york disco scene and was played by the likes of david mancuso at the loft, larry levan at the paradise garage and by nicky siano at studio 54, but continued to be a big hit with modern new york tastemakers kenny dope, dj spinna, danny krivit and his body & soul party crew well into the 90s, as well as with stars like motor city drum ensemble and bulljun. i-robots is a notorious producer and record collector with a vast understanding of the history of house and disco and his version combines an original vocal and instrumental version into something really magical. new york s movin (i-robots reconstruction take i) is a jangling, organic and lose limbed disco number with a funky drum line, soul in its bones and plenty of lovably rough percussion, clicks and drums. a retro and impassioned vocal line adds flair to the track at the midpoint just before that groove kicks once more. this version is featured on the new i-robots - reconstructions 2007-2017 10th year anniversary release. new york s movin (i-robots reconstruction take ii) is then just as emotive and outgoing but after the break has more of a focus on funk. this is a huge party starting track filled with feel good vibes and once again proves opilec music work on only the most special projects.

the original, the inspirational, the bombastic, the never bettered, the one. don t make me wait is all of the above and so much more. classic to the core. huge earth shattering record right here. ok, so the scoop, for the uninitiated is this - the peech boys were larry levan s group, we re talking early 80 s nyc here, 1982 to be precise, around the height of the paradise garage as larry was making the transition from superstar dj to producer. he brought a sparse, dubbed out, narcotic late night feel to the overall sound of this record. this was a short-lived project, but the influence is still felt today, the peech boys dna is inside the veins of modern dance music, as is larry s. there is no underestimating what an impact this record had. 7+ minutes of electronic bliss, trailblazing stuff, and don t get us started on the dub. do yourself a favour, buy this classic if you don t own it already, you ll keep coming back to it time and time again. guaranteed. this essential 12inch is repressed here in it s original 1979 glory, an essential classic that has stood the test of time for the last 30+ years & is now available again, remastered & repressed for 2017 in conjunction with west end records, nyc.
