monumental house anthem alert! another classic jammer from 1992 lifted straight from the strictly vaults. this one s huge. phuture aka acid house pioneers spanky and dj pierre (with a little help from roy davis jr) turn in a driving, acidic monster in true wild pitch style. probably the only record that begins with a sinister voice saying this is cocaine speaking before diving head-long into one of the best anti-drug house records ever. absolutely brilliant. bubbling 303 basslines and cavernous handclaps combine with a funked out, dubbed out synth line that just doesn t stop. phuture will survive, and they weren t lying when they said that as this record (among too many others they had a hand in) still rock today. yep, still fresh. tried and tested, often imitated, never bettered. phuture are the originals. open up your eyes (and ears). this one s a tasty 2017 reissue and remaster, featuring all 4 mixes as per the original release way back when. essential stuff here. you simply need this one.

they expect me to write something informative about the tracks on this ep here but i find it really difficult to express music in words. on top of it i went out last night, to club der visionõre, and i feel hungover and empty inside my head. so now im sitting here and all i can think of is, cant you just take a listen to the music?! the ep contains 5 tracks all made in the last couple of lousy summer months here in berlin in nostalgia for the better days. itÆs about house and a bit of electro, no gimmicks.

combining forces, audiofly and patrice bäumel draw on unique inspirations from the desert to deliver the monumental atacama on crosstown rebels. having focused solely on his own productions in the past, label boss damian lazarus steps away for the first time to complete this exceptional release with a profound re-shape. the hypnotic atacama intricately builds with a certain intensity that never drops, stimulating the senses and transporting the mind as deep, grumbling pads drift in and out of play. damian lazarus remembers the first moment i heard this track i knew there was something very special about it, not only did it strike me as a killer club record but i also felt the textures completely appropriate to my own experiences in the atacama desert. on the flip, damian changes gear as a deep, chugging beat leads the way through an impressive re-shape of the original. anthony middleton and luca saporito aka audiofly have established a creative empire, which includes two record labels and their flying circus global party brand. they met patrice during a us tour and immediately hit it off. it wasn t long after that we decided to invite him to barcelona for a session that proved to be nothing short of inspirational. internationally renowned dj and producer patrice bäumel has had a busy start to 2017 with a release on tale of us’ afterlife imprint, plus remixes for sasha & policia and depeche mode amongst others. he truthfully said of the this release, it s a labour of love that came together within a few hours of jamming in the studio, unlike many collabs this one really felt like we all equally contributed to the end result.

dark entries is proud to present the deluxe 2xlp reissue of ‘come visit the big bigot’ by severed heads, oone of the longest surviving bands to emerge from the australian post-punk independent music scene. they began in sydney in 1979, incorporating elements of ‘industrial’ noise-generation, tape cutting & looping and electronic sound synthesis. as the project developed song-structures and vocals were employed in a more-or-less recognizable mutant electro pop style. after many line-up changes featuring garry bradbury and psychedelic guitarist simon knuckey, severed heads was the vehicle for composer tom ellard. ‘come visit the big bigot’ was severed heads’ first record to be released commercially simultaneously in australia, north america and europe in 1986. it was a prime period for this industrial dance music and bigot was a respected album that did well from the tour they did with skinny puppy that same year. quite a few people still define the band by this period. ‘come visit the big bigot’ was made on a fostex 16 track recorder in tom’s bedroom, employing the newly acquired akai s612 sampler and roland sh-101 to create most of the drum sounds. the album signaled a new direction, flirting with the dance floor and the pop song. presenting the heads at their most cohesive, while retaining their distinctive musical stamp. tom’s vocals are harmonized, slowed down, sped up, run through fuzz boxes, backwards, drum machine rolls, sampled guitars, horn sections, and voices but with a subversive rather than malevolent intention. tape loops are more subtle and define their own space and texture. like the original australian version of the album, we’ve included a bonus disc featuring three extended remixes by sydney dj robert racic (who produced the edited 7” version of “petrol” we reissued in 2015), plus three b-sides from the ‘twenty deadly diseases’12” and two additional tracks from the same recording sessions.

french artist marc nguyen tan released two renowned albums in the early 2003 and 2006 under the artist name colder on trevor jackson’s seminal label output recordings. in november 2015, colder returned after a decade in hiatus with his third, highly acclaimed album many colours followed by two other lps titled the rain and goodbye in 2016. kasper bjorke is one of the most acclaimed and versatile producers and djs hailing from denmark. kasper has released five renowned solo albums over the past decade and remixed a wide range of artists, from rebolledo to weval. the two artists first started working together when kasper remixed colders single ”your kind” - and colder in return remixed bjørke s track ”marbled blood”. the idea to take their collaboration even further was formed when the two of them met in person during sonar festival in barcelona in 2015. in 2016 they then teamed up in the redbull studio in paris for a three day improvised recording session. the result is the black magic ep in stores on september 8th via throne of blood. a collection of five raw, driving post punk / new wave and techno influenced compositions, recorded via the studio ssl desk in paris, using hardware synths and drum machines played through some exotic vintage effects. colder recorded his mesmerizing vocals on the spot along with french drummer julien sabourin and saxophone player thibaut javoy. the ep will be followed by a stellar remix package from the golden filter (optimo music), mutado pintado (paranoid london) and french producer and dj pilooski.

quartet series is back with the bodybuilder series after scott frankas popped the new offshoots cherry in the spring. for this sophomore release, nachtbraker sourced some serious production talent from eindhoven, the netherlands. while its the portamento boys first ever release, they have the chutzpah to go full-frontal italo and pull it off with great panache with a moody and energetic ep.

invisible starlight is a ripping tune by an unknown midwestern funk outfit with a driving backbeat and soaring horns. it sounds like ohio to us, but we can t be certain. however, we are sure that this band must have rocked local bowling alleys and lounges wherever they went. universal cave is proud to present our edit to our fellow 45 loving movers and groovers. on the flip, the beat broker rounds out the original with his signature style and an impeccable ear. the kind dub s sun drenched delay and reinforced drums ensure that invisible starlight will shine on any dancefloor.

total science are back to grace their own imprint cia records, and this time they enlist the musical and technical prowess of fellow bristol associates hydro and war alongside themselves on the reign ep. made up of four killer slabs of fast paced, moving and deep drum & bass, the influence of each party is immediately obvious in each track. total science are infamous for their breaks and rave influences that have often been present in their music since they first started releasing in the early 1990’s. hydro has been releasing music since 2007, working with a slew of respected producers such as break, dlr, fd and halogenix amongst many others. he is infamous for his epic sample collection and the deep and deadly vibe that he brings to tracks. and the young french extraordinaire war has already shown he is a force to be reckoned with, consistently releasing music with a sublime depth and musicality that belies his age – and also a power and punch that consistently rips clubs to shreds. the reign ep brings the finest attributes of each of the parties to the table, and results in a well-rounded collection of music that offers something to a wide range of listeners. whether you want to lock them into a groove, tear the roof off the club, or get them thinking about what will come next in this world, the reign ep has it in spades.

cult duo rework are next up on my favorite robot with a five track ep that shows off their brilliantly inventive house and tech style. the production outfit of daniel varga, michael kuebler deal in left of centre and freaky house with a mischievous afterparty slant. they have been active for more than a decade now and have credits on great labels like visionquest, items & things, meant and the institution that is playhouse. the brilliantly sleazy “talk it off” opens things up with popping drums, playful lyrics and a steely sound that is designed for wonky basement parties. “valencia” goes deeper with warm drums and synths surging along next to an elastic groove that is propped up by energetic and incendiary chord stabs. it’s a subtle but high impact track that will raise the energy levels on any floor. “think about you” has vocals coated in echo and delay and trippy synths that are lively and off kilter. it makes for a track that is brilliantly loose and undulating and cannot fail to get under your skin. final track “attractive” heads in a much more techno direction with surging drums and hypnotic slithering synths that burrow deep into your brain and seep into the night. it is trance inducing for sure, and shows another side to this accomplished outfit. this is a versatile ep stuffed with killer cuts for many different moments in the night, and each is as standout as the next.

naoki e-jima s disc shop zero record store in tokyo holds a special place in our hearts. since before idle hands was even established, when rooted records was king, the cosy, liberally stocked shop has served as a sympathetic outpost for bristol s rich culture of soundsystem music. over the years, naoki has championed all the best music to come from our fair city, from smith & mighty through to pinch and pev and on to the output from our own humble label. it s been a vital connection to help our music reach the right heads on the other side of the world, in turn providing a platform for our most treasured artists to gig and further the cause of the music we love. as a thank you for all the support naoki has shown bristol music over the years, idle hands has put together a special tribute 10inch of tracks that chime with his particular musical tastes, shining a light on some complementary gems that might have otherwise never seen the light of day. its also a chance to fill in the missing idle013 catalogue number – fortunately, the number 13 does not represent bad luck in japanese culture. on the a-side, the mighty (pun intended) rob smith takes to a track from outboxx s debut album, originally intended for a remix 12inch that never came to be. in his learned hands, lost soul becomes a shimmering stepper marked out by beautiful cascading arpeggios and of course plenty of fulsome bass, with arresting fragments of vocal drifting in and out of the mix for good measure. rob s status as a true legend of bristol music needs no explanation, but his presence here is furthermore because naoki is such a fan of his music. on the b-side, atki2 makes a welcome return to the label after bringing a classic ray of sunshine to idle hands on the second single we ever put out. as well as being a big release for us, it was apparently huge at disc shop zero, so it feels right to bring the effervescent hes royal to this 10inch release. with a sunny disposition at heart, these two tracks make sense sharing a 10inch, but it s even more fitting that they sit side by side as we doff our caps to a true hero of the global underground. thanks, naoki.

by the time mobb deep hit with their third album – hell on earth – they were solidified street legends. coming off the critically acclaimed the infamous, havoc and prodigy hit the lab and came back with a soundtrack that is fitting to its title. havoc’s production is atmospheric, laced with his trademark drums loops and sharp pianos stabs. add prodigy’s trademark flow and it’s evident that the pairing is such an amazing match. while hell on earth is essentially a continuation of the infamous you can still hear the growth in both performers and hell on earth stands as some of their best work. the album features guest appearances by nas, raekwon, method man, and frequent collaborator big noyd.

if you like tape hiss, heavy beats and cheeky sampling this will make you go bang! ctepeo 57 (stereo 57) are a newly formed duo. they have been around for a while and you might know them under different aliases. their obsession with 1950s culture brought them together and they own a massive collection of marlon brando memorabilia. the 1950s were a decade of mystery and hoaxes, the cold war, the space race and the establishment of nasa. ctepeo 57 insists the cold war isnt over and claim russian astronauts landed on mars in the late 90s to discover something truly amazing… it all seems far-fetched but who cares, when they make music like this.

neil landstrumm - bad life choice club ep are bad life choices a bad thing or actually quite good really? neil landstrumm invites you to join his club of fools with this effort on moustache records. its money badly invested if you do but endless selfish pleasure awaits the brave. don t blame me if it all goes wrong. i warned you. idiot. this six track lp from the early 1980s contains pleasure seeking electro-pop and beastly disco lust, heard from the other side of mute records black leatherette covered door this record is made by neil landstrumm (rip) on fuck all with shit speakers. ably assisted by tommy stuart and his wall of modular synth and a pork pie on at least two occasions. made for the french but they didn t have enough money to pay for it. fuck the tories and brexit. scotland wanted to stay in the european union. we hope you all know that.

industry veteran paolo martini is next to join the emerald city family with red rocks. bringing the funk, he delivers a solid two-track release with irresistible groove and dance-floor disco heat. paolo martini has been in the business for over 30 years, first releasing with gianni bini on various labels such as defected, strictly rhythm, universal, azuli and nervous. they soon established their own label ocean trax and handled remixes of kylie minogue and jamiroquai. paolo has also been testimonial for several clothing brands including diesel and adidas and also the rane mp2015 mixer. his following co-productions can be found on acclaimed labels such as hot creations, snatch!, moon harbour, 8bit, saved and cecille amongst many others. 2017 starts the beginning of a new adventure with a string of releases geared up under his new solo project.

it had been four years since juxtaposition, radians last record. chimeric is not a polished album. within the context it is raw, broken, even dark sometimes. steady, multiple rhythms, layered on top of each other disappear into chaos and turn back into discreet structures in the next moment. references of rock music, executed with the precision of a sequencer, mutated, restructured. a lot on this album is about control and the loss of control. the risk of failure. but chimeric is much more free. some of the longer pieces are composed of very different parts and different colours along a continuous timeline. they tend to evolve in a narrative form and are moving through various scenes and surroundings, which is also present in the spacial relationship between the instruments.

devon lyon, born devon bailey, moved to kingston in the 70 s to live in trenchtown with his mum, his sister and his brother named dennis. dennis was working in the new kingston area on a construction site. dennis met a friend who worked at the construction site and that friend was the lead singer from the group the chantells. . dennis told the chantells lead singer that his brother was singing at home like he was singing everyday on construction work site. the chantells lead singer told dennis to bring his brother devon. one day, devon came with his brother devon and they met the three members of the group the chantells. they became friends. devon started to verse with them in the evening and they really like him style.

this mysterious duo have been long time friends since childhood and both have active solo careers in the independent music industry. on this ep they join forces to give listeners a refreshing and envelope pushing abstract deep house experience.

osf is happy and proud to announce a new 12-inch by its founder, nur jaber. the label was conceived by the staub resident as her very own creative platform, a place for her to not just release uncompromising music, but also to print poems, letters and in the case of this record, even direct a video. based in berlin, the young producer who was born in beirut remains very attached to her roots. this background partially explains why she can be inspired by tragic events happening regularly in the middle east - making brave statements in the mostly apolitical electronic music environment. the past years have seen nur embrace a career as a music producer, seeing her slowly and steadily become an original new voice in the techno landscape. this ep showcases nur s ability to create and combine daunting atmospherics and frantic paces. it is dark and twisted, with its vocals and screams, but always driving. weapons of mass destruction is meant for banging crazy dance floors, but it is also personal and almost cathartic, especially in the current political situation surrounding all of us. the artwork, as always, is put together by osf family members the beholder and beauty&machines.

dj harrison is richmond va-based producer and multi-instrumentalist devonne harris. the son of a radio dj who introduced him to the world of record collecting, harris grew up with music, progressing from violin, to high school drum-line, to the jazz studies program at virginia commonwealth university. he also continued working with other instruments and developed an interest in sampling. his development as a producer at first, without a computer or sampler came first learning to replay samples on the drums, piano, bass or guitar. dj harrison finds himself inspired by local musicians in the richmond scene thats as diverse and nonexclusive as they come. among rappers, producers, punks and bluegrass bands, he falls within reach of an expansive pool of musicians to collaborate with. he lives and works in jellowstone, a house turned recording compound occupied by his band mates in butcher brown, a garage punk jazz funk group. hazymoods, dj harrison’s stones throw debut, was recorded there completely on tape, where the living room functions as a communal recording studio

copenhagens music for dreams comes with yet another strong release - a double album of personal favourites compiled by jan schulte. according to all maps and witness accounts, germany does not officially have any tropical forests. this is of no concern to schulte however, who has unearthed many stunning examples of tropical drum music recorded there. perhaps the number of botanical gardens and palm houses in germany confused musicians into mistaking the climate, or maybe it was just a happy blend of escapism and multi-cultural integration within musical scenes that spawned such a curious output of undefinable tribal folk jazz. most of the tracks picked by schulte were released on small labels in the late 80 s. the musicians involved were mainly traditionally schooled, born and raised in germany. at that time to be interested in foreign folk music might have seemed a gimmick to some, what with the emerging -world music boom- already snowballing into the mainstream. but these songs, while they may be based on musical traditions from foreign lands, deal much more with introspection than exploitation. schulte himself points to his -general fascination for music that describes places where the artists have never been. songs about the jungle or the rainforest made by people that know the rainforest only from television and books. somehow i think you can hear their mythical imagination and fantasy in those tracks,- he explains....

latest installment from eleve music is produced by madrid duo uanamani. derk and iterbio have been studying sound and spinning records for many years, and currently uanamani is one of the top local live acts in underground events in madrid. their analog multi-instrumental set up digs classic ambient and deep techno which morphs into a live organism, with tribal touchs from around the world. they join eleve inviting us to dive into their myths. during the journey, expect first class deep techno with bursts of reverberant hihats, syncopated percussions and harmonic wind whistlings, blurring the lines between adventure and mystery. the organic feeling is present through the whole ride with mutating arpeggios that will make the most obscure rituals go hypnotic.

coeo are toy tonics lead artists and they dont joke! technically perfect on a level that most producers start to get jealous. musically filled up with so much knowledge about the history of disco and house that its no wonder that big names like kenny dope, borrowed identity and tensnake are huge fans. and their styleà? its a pure hedonistic discoish attitude that combines the funk driven eclecticism of today, the curiosity of young music cats who always want to be ahead and a sense of quality in music that we miss in so many of todays house music productions. in fact its 2017 and a lot is changing in the house scene. the old melancholic deep house now is quite dead - while most deep house charts are filled up with sample based funk house. coeo are regularly on the top of the several deep house charts, and there is a reason: their tracks have that kind of new, nasty, sexualised vibe that gets more inspired from the late 1990ies french touch house or early masters at work production. from jazz djs and dj sets of wildstyle djs like harvey or the idjut boys. its not any more about the old schematic ketamine deep house that always sounds the same (and makes your feet fall asleep.) listen to flesh world! its black music basically. its booty sound. disco for sure. this track gets you riding on a trip. play it one time and youll play it every time. and: check the percussion jam remix by toy tonics head kapote.

bologna s increasing influence on dancefloors across the world continues as hotly tipped lo-fi house duo nas1 drop their first release on their home town label, sorryforthis records and is sure to be a big moment for their burgeoning reputations. it s an eclectic, multi-layered 4 track ep that pushes the boundaries of what is possible with such minimalist kit to the extreme and includes a remix from sound signature legend marcellus pittman. vino cheenese, as the title suggests, is a leftfield rumbler that, once finished, leaves you unsure how you got there - but sure you enjoyed the journey. oriental synths flutter over a pounding bassline, taking you from gloriously lo-fi, serene moments to being inundated with beats provided by a simmons sds8 and akai mpc1000 that puncture the surreal atmosphere. the pittman remix removes any pretence of serenity and has more of an eye on the dark end of the dancefloor. the bassline is rendered more ominous and the beats more relentless and distorted, while keeping the leftfield vibes in tact. ag pini brings in a lower tempo, with punching industrial yet melodic synths coming in and out of sparse rumbling beats it feels like a kraftwerk track if they had grown up in detroit. the springer is the hardest tune on the e.p – with layers upon layers of crunching beats surrounded by howling, swirling high end synths, looping in and out of each other, putting almost an entire history of dance music in one brutal track.

ewan jansen joins the butter sessions crew with five unique tracks spanning deep house cuts to electronic jazz, recorded in perth, australia between 2002 and 2016. on the a side, ewan offers up two memorable and moody gems credo and harbinger that are just as effective on the dance floor as they are in your lounge room! the b side sees something more obscure brewing, kicked off by blueprint a balearic compu-funked tune that makes you wish it lasted for hours, followed up by the timeless piece of jazz infused ambience on the beach . the tail end of the ep leaves us with erewhon an oddball jazz tinged house jam of incomparable qualities!

although not a band in a traditional sense of the word, this record was created by a rotating ensemble of players: for a brief moment, musicians from different backgrounds (in this iteration: preslav, kenny peagler, waajeed, joe defazio and phil boyd) became a band and then went their separate ways. rhodes, funk basslines, neo-soul chords and tight drum programming are the lingua franca of the 24 hour band. the title of each song represents the time of day that inspired it and collectively, they point to the goal to create records that can be enjoyed not just in a club, but throughout the day, at home, or in your car. this is the 24hr band.

after the success of last years debut ep onemind are back with more music on metalheadz, and coming along for the ride are a couple of friends in total science and throwing snow as they follow in the footsteps of ulterior motive and om unit (who both featured on ep1). ep2 is a prelude to onemind’s forthcoming album and is a sure sign of what to expect as the duo showcase an abundance of talent, from the heavy and well refined sounds of late addition to the spine-tingling pressure of early daze, they really do have it all covered.

utter presents rgbpm, trevor jackson s four piece audio-visual work originally commissioned for a live performance at the optronica festival in 2007, on london s imax, the biggest screen in the uk. optronica, programmed by addictive tv/cinefeel in collaboration with the british film institute, held its second festival over five consecutive days at the imax, ica and bfi southbank in march 2007. a showcase of the most exciting talent working in visual music, optronica s 2007 event was a platform for live performances, talks, screenings and workshops from the likes of fennesz, peter greenaway and ryoichi kurokawa. jackson s piece took over six months to develop and yet was performed only once. on march 14th the premier of rgbpm opened the festival in spectacular fashion, jackson performing the music live with its accompanying hd visuals generated in real time using custom-built software created especially by weirdcore. a powerful multi-sensory experience, the event remains one of the defining moments of jackson s lengthy career. the visuals consist of abstract shapes synchronised perfectly to jackson’s soundtrack. choreographed to represent musical elements within each track, they explore the relationship between melody, colour, rhythm and form. the diverse soundtrack combines magical motorik experiments, demented acidic jams, melodic subterranean techno and dark discordant electronic soundscapes. it s a timeless selection of music that holds its own to this day. a decade on from rgbpm s lone airing, utter is proud to release all four parts together for the first time as a special 12- package, mastered and cut by helmut erler at d&m and housed in a sleeve designed by jackson himself.

the make mistakes gang returns with their second record in the form of remixes of roy england s techno rocker, photon. what you get here is a package of dance floor cuts showcasing the varied styles, and tastes of the crew, making this a versatile record that s gonna find a way to fit in where ever it s needed. on the a side we have a taste of attentat s signature sound: hypnotic, driving minimal techno. a slowly evolving meditation, this stripped down, pulsing jam will ignite the late night dance floor. an irrepressible tinkerer, roy england took the original, funked it up, worked it out, and streamlined it for peak time. in his remix, roy crafted a consummate party jam, steady, pumping, and full of life. with his remix, time for trees takes you on a psychedelic, housey frolic through the woods. what we have here is a slow building, mind-bending groove, wrapped up in cascading waterfalls of sound. the make mistakes label has built a diverse sound around a cohesive aesthetic. with the photon remixes, they continue that tradition, with style and depth, fine-tuned for dance floor lovers.

as bpmf started making techno again, he surveyed his techno friends asking them what it was about his music they found the most annoying. the answers? tr-606 hi-hats and portamento. he proceeded to focus on these aspects of his music and today the results are here: -abide the glide volume 4- wherein bpmf is pushing all the right buttons to get the dj thinking about the sounds their pumpin. jamie morris provides an excellent dj freindly remix of -even straighter-, taking bpmf s idea and going even straighter.

2017 repress - timmon records in helsinki, finland - the home of myron & es band & collaborators the soul investigators - have released their own custom versions of the myron & e recordings, cut right at home in the timmion cutting laboratory. the two lps - cold game and going in circles - are strictly limited edition vinyl releases, packaged with old school thick cardboard sleeve and tip-on cover. going in circles lp contains the full, original versions three tracks from myron & es broadway (the u.s. release on stones throw) and four others which arent on the u.s. release.

in 1988, on the eve of a two decade civil war, somalia s authoritarian ruler siad barre launched punishing air strikes on the north of the country, known today as somaliland, in response to agitations for independence. the bombing leveled the entire city. barre targeted radio hargeisa to prevent any kind of central communication system that could organize a resistance. with the attack imminent, a few brave radio operators and dedicated vanguards of somali culture knew the archives, containing over half a century of somali music had to be preserved. thousands upon thousands of cassette tapes and master reels were quickly removed from the soon-to-be targeted buildings. they were dispersed to neighboring countries like djibouti and ethiopia, and buried deep under the ground to withstand even the most powerful airstrikes.

after his banging ep 1 on aus, tee mangos back for the 5th installment in his tribute project, inspired by the much referenced theo parrish quote: love of the music should be the driving force of any producer, performer or dj. everything else stems from that core, that love. with that love, sampling can become a tribute, an expansion on ideas long forgotten, reconstruction, collage. time is now time is now comes off like adamski era seal rerub for the small hours. replete with hypnotic looped piano and drums sounding like they were lifted from vaughan mason s raze house archive. simply sweet sweet electronic music. make it last forever the b side is tee mango on home turf, with a selection of choice samples under his cap (from a record you might recognise), some simple loose sampled drums and a smattering of dub delay. love for this series coming from: axel boman, benji b, artwork, fred p, and a heap of others. these tribute releases sell out pretty quick, my hunch is that these will not hang about.
