paint en pointe is a compilation of selected compositions by eugene ward, otherwise known to most as dro carey / tuff sherm. the tracks have been taken from a series of performance collaborations with choreographer patric kuo over a 5 month period. the performances, which occurred monthly in the latter half of 2014, took place in spot81 gallery in chippendale, sydney. kuo and ward, along with a roster of dancers, were invited to create new dance works that responded to the exhibition occurring during the given month. throughout the series many ensemble types were explored, ranging from solos up to large groups of as many as 16 dancers. patric kuo is a sydney based dancer/choreographer originally trained in all styles, but presently heavily draws his influence from hip hop and contemporary dance. coming from a performing arts and commercial dance background, kuo has expanded his ideas about communicating to an audience, moving away from the traditional entertainment relationship towards an approach that includes engagement more informed by performance art

get wet is a new label formed by a group of friends based between milan and berlin and dedicated to release 12inch mixes intended for club playing. we are interested in pushing new languages of expression, reminiscent of the best traits from old-school influences and on the lookout for a contemporary meaning of the dancefloor, exploring further motives in club music.

*lies*, a track from the now-defunct uk experimental group bourbonese qualk, get new life by way of a vinyl release on mannequin records with ancient methods on edit and remix duties. the release will contain also the original short-time version.

with this compilation aarhus-label help recordings presents a selection of electronic music, giving it the self-evident title *relevant material*. on the first face, an uncredited weird intro is followed by two tracks from two debutants. the lofi energy of brooklyn-based love letters is followed by a new-and-classical house-sound from sports, the younger brother of the two label-heads. on the flipside older brother central, who recently appeared on the the neighbour-label nord records, shows his calmer and more melodic side. the local group lester, who did the first tape on the label, deliver a playful jam, a groovy exploration of machine dance music. the final grooves of the compilation reveal another uncredited sportive track.

the supremes, the most commercially successful girl group in pop history, were one of the jewels in motown records artist stable. given wonderful material by motown s amazing songwriters, the group scored numerous number one pop hits, as did singer diana ross when she left the group and went solo, and motowns bright, modern, and uptown image as a label had a lot to do with the way these ladies gracefully and elegantly presented themselves and took over a song. two dozen of those number one hits, both as the supremes and as ross solo, are collected here, including the timeless classics *come see about me*, *you cant hurry love*, *you keep me hangin on* and *stop! in the name of love*. the album also features a bonus remix of *you keep me hangin on*.

isabel, the first of a new attic series dedicated to hurricanes, is the latest ep signed by fabrizio lapiana on his own label and including remixes from reeko (mental disorder / pole group) and max_m (m_rec ltd). lapiana delivers two tracks with mighty and warm bassdrum, hihats and evolving percussions everywhere focused on diffuse electric click and vivid minimalism. the pole group artist shapes “dfract” into a more bodily and harder structure while the m_rec boss takes the same track and makes its own atmospheric and ultra-rhythmic style. proper dirty dancefloor techno of the highest order.

mannequin records is proud to present a double lp and cd compilation of one of the most important industrial bands active during the 80s in the uk. bourbonese qualk were an experimental music group from england who where active from 1979 until 2003. throughout this period they had a number of different line-ups but this album concentrates on the period from 1983 until 1987 with the trio of simon crab, julian gilbert and steven tanza. during this time the group released five albums: laughing afternoon, hope, the spike, preparing for power and the self-titled bourbonese qualk on their own recloose organisation and new international records labels.

as part of longstanding no wave duo naked on the vague, murky girl group knitted abyss and extraterrestrial drone project half high, lucy phelan has been a critical force in the sydney diy scene for over 10 years. under the solo veil of lucy cliche, she annihilates with these four wavey techno tracks that honour her noise and punk ethos. with pounding drum sequences, draining synths and emotionless vocals echoing cosey fanni tutti, her dark dreams sabotage our calculations of modern dance while demonstrating how physicality and the ethereal can interact.

based in berlin, slow life is a multidisciplinary collective of spanish and italian creatives led by percussionist sergio moreira. his production first caught the ears of phonica via a trilogy of highly impressive 12 inchs on the group’s slow life label, all of which were instant hits and flew out the shop. for this release, moreira teams up with xinner for three of the ep’s four tracks and the results are a spellbinding journey through deep, hypnotic techno, broken beats and submerged ambience. the artwork is once again by acclaimed visual artist jack featherstone, the designer of a number of sleeves for border community, electric minds, warm and of course, phonica.

the phantom is older than you think, both figuratively and literally. his debut on vinyl was on *it s my mike* by the funky force 2 back in 1987 on amanda records. in 1988 he recorded as part of the group the force and recorded *the mission* with the producer powercut. he is probably best known for being one of the main mcs in cult group dynametrix, who released an ep in 1991 and an lp in 1994 called *a measure of force* on kold sweat records. he also appeared on three tracks on the unsung heroes lp *unleashed* as well as appearing with tom dice on *thug killer*.

making his rnt debut here is dj vas with a wide-reaching quartet of edit stylings. originally a member of pioneering french-touch group kojak, vas seasoned production approach really shines through on this package, whether in the blistering groove of wizard funk, the classic boogie of the moment, the dub reggae styles of alright, or the smooth-as-silk cream. theres truly a bit of something for every party on this 12inch

radio bands radio rap the one and only single by a group of djs from the radio fantasy pirate station has long been an in-demand gem with italo-disco diggers and balearic heads alike. with original copies both hard to find and expensive (currently hovering around the l60 mark online), it s great to see archeo recordings giving the 1984 cut a much-needed reissue on heavyweight vinyl. the quirky vocal version a loose and funky disco-rap record with additional boogie synths and all italian vocals is accompanied by the superb instrumental version, which perfectly showcases danilo ciarchi s superb production.

airplay from steve barker (the wire) on bbc radio and support from tomas rubeck (eshu) among others. kicking off the new fifth interval label, san francisco based dub techno producer federsen heads up the premier release. the title track is a hazy dub techno trip filled with washes of tape delayed chords and crisp snares while the b1 track - 50hz is a far more broken affair, 140 bpm gear comparable to the likes of deadbeat and strategy. for the final track, isodyne (one half of forward strategy group) shakes up 50 hz, slowing it down to an incredibly weighty 115 bpm, finalising an excellent release with something for discerning djs of all tastes.
