rediscovered 80’s british acid house gem ‘cortina kidz’ recently made a serious impact on andy butler’s mr. intl with remixes from factory floor and juan maclean & tim sweeney. hot on the heels, moscow’s lipelis’ steps in to remix with striking results. pitchfork enthused of the recent reissue being “a chilly acid-house track operating the influence of both soft cell and the specials,’ xlr8r as “drenched in dark and sleazy overtones, the track encapsulates a downtrodden time in london”, while ransom note noted “cortina kidz is more than just an old skool oddity- it s a banger that s stood the test of time”. originally recorded on london’s stoke newington road in 1987, produced by a young tim brinkhurst ahead of his imminent record deal with virgin records with his band soho, and long before his current role as manager of mercury prize winners, young fathers, ‘cortina kidz’ remained undiscovered and the eccentric spoken word overlay and weird lead vocal made it very unlike the prevailing dance music sound of the time. leonid lipelis explains that “since it’s a reissue of a relatively unknown record it gave me a certain freedom of expression (when it’s something well known and classic you re likely to produce something more serious). i came up with more of a pop song, structured with a vocoder for the main version and had fun playing with vocal samples for the dub mix, paying homage to the 80s sound in both.- lipelis’ recent release on lies records has gained him support from four tet to dimitri from paris. he also runs a side project for hardware jams called tmo and co-runs low budget family records.

the weeping tune was originally released (digitally) in september 2015 on pg tune and premiered in arma17, moscow. barnt: artist, friend, dj and one of the minds behind magazine label, created his own version of the weeping tune to fit into his dj sets, one of the first times being at amnesia, ibiza. these energies naturally formed this release which opens the vinyl catalogue on pg tune: a must have record packed into a pg tune trademark sleeve, created with a thermal camera during tigas first ever live show at berlin festival. limited to 500 copies worldwide, pressed on 180 gram vinyl.

manchester s very own mr scruff and nyc crate digger ge-ology remix moscow s lay-far! now that s what we call a truly international release. it s kind of a dream release for us at local talk as both scruff and ge-ology have been on our we wanna get them on local talk plastic list for quite some time. starting off we find scruff going for a slight disco(ish) rub where analogue synths bumps around with a dark but musical basement feel...but still jazzy! on the flip our man ge-ology who is riding high on the hype from his release on theo parrish s sound signature label goes on a deep and spaced out electronic house venture that is so edgy it hurts. its that good good shit basically...enjoy!

the latest signing to flumo is bessiekat. brewed in districts and clubs of moscow, with a label of his own, isaiah tapes, he delivers a strong rhythm with harmonic dispositions, all painted with industrially laced colours of the hardware he uses to create the following pieces. the two originals hearp and pearls share a commonality in developing vivid landscapes of overlapping analogue sonic expositions. however, they differ in the way that the former warms you up and brings you more attentively to the speaker, while the latter throws you back on the deep, dark, early morning dancefloor.

next up on moss co. is a 3 tracker from long-time moscow records artists dan farserelli, remixed by the supremely talented tom ellis. the record opens with lemons and limes, a catchy roller that bumps and grinds its way into the soul, each revolution of the bassline giving the body a sense of fulfilment, while jazzy musical elements entertain the mind. on the flip that time is a classic piece of micro house perfect for the early hours. a sparse, but groovy bassline is complemented by catchy hooks, percussion and a creative arrangement. the tom ellis remix on the b2 completes the record with a particularly trippy, but incredibly catchy, afterhours interpretation.

limited repress of the first release! played by raresh for six years nervmusic has been the instigator of actions that have brought a circle of techno culture fans together to form an independent movement in moscow s nightlife. all along the way, the members of nervmusic were searching for a unique sound that eventually necessitated becoming a music label. the starting point of the nervmusic label will be karen ep, a release by easy changes (foundsound, stock5), a techno act from moscow and core members of nervmusic since the beginning. with a remix by cabanne (minibar, hello?repeat, perlon), the legendary french techno producer who crafted a special take on the track gneedos. further development of nervmusic will be a contiuous research in avant garde techno sounds. nervmusic aims to infuse the work of new artists with the contributions of legendary producers.

capital bass continues to gather russian names under one roof and expand stylistic variations. next big thing is a three-track ep from ponty mython (alex). this is the second ep by sir ponty mython on capital bass. it has been two years since his bulletproof jesus ep in 2013. during these two years ponty mython has been working with such iconic house imprints as arma, quintessentials, dirt crew and others. his new adverbs ep is a quite eclectic thing. side a is a filtered house banger gracefully - a result of sampling games with moscow house star lay-far (local talk, in-beat-ween). side b - afterwards tune is a real one-loop thriller, dirty and raw, with african samples and invisible sub bass line. on b side you can also find a psychedelic version of afterwards by saint petersburg techno artist nocow (roots united, fauxpas musik). volupso 4 sees alboratory label boss dimitri monev enter the fray with two equally sublime tracks. both tracks envisage the style and sound of dimitri progressing through sounds and beats to a deliver a clinical freshness for volupso. both tracks are accompanied by remixes from the highly acclaimed dan farserelli of fuse and lorenzo chiabotti of desolat and moscow records, making voluspo 4 highly desirable.

moscow label grow continues in fine creative form, seemingly not sticking to a motive or trend but rather concentrating on the strength of character within the music it releases. for the labels eighth release the artist is berlin based the marx trukker, who over the last 10 years has been developing his very distinct sound and recent output on labels like pluie/noir, the untold stories, and most recently noorden, have all been especially impressive. now on grow comes the 4 track vinyl * heavens crackling*, from the title one is expecting something awesome, and the album does not disappoint, right from the off, the first track: * a time well spent*, begins with celestial tones ringing out and the performance develops with great synth work, enlightened and very enlivening, spring is in step and something is beginning. the record continues at such a level throughout, overflowing with rich tones, warmth, and raw sounding percussion. in the second track, * all the boating still a tide to go*, deep warm bass and strings reverberate, as if amidst a hot harbours summer, then the ethereal synths return as magical breezes of cooling wind on a june day. on the bside comes the title track * heavens crackling*, the tone has cooled, there is an autumnal vibe, extended tones of an eerie but reassuring nature provide the ground, from under which a molten bass flows playfully. the final track, * i do anything but its so cold*, as the title would suggest, again time has passed, gone are the warm relaxed echoes of the the opening tracks, winter has come, and a strong percussive energy becomes the driving force of an especially deep and more introverted last track. in heavens crackling there is an uncanny understanding of time passing and representation of being, its present in the patience and performance within every track, and the effect of the album, which seems, like the seasons, to naturally come full circle, is for the listener indeed to experience a time well spent. top marks for the marx trukker!
