im basement des legendären westlondoner flamingo clubs gab es den weniger bekannten americana club, wo jimi hendrix 1966 erstmals in england live auftrat, paul mccartney seine spätere ehefrau linda eastman kennenlernte und mitte der 1950er jahre ein mod-allnighter mit r&b, blues, jazz, calypso und ska stattfand, dem dieser gleichnamige lp-sampler mit 16 erfrischenden tracks gewidmet ist.

bereits im letzten jahr veröffentlichte parlophone records mit »five years (1969–1973)« und »who can i be now? (1974–1976)« zwei boxen, die david bowies studio- und livealben aus den besagten jahren versammeln. fünf dieser longplayer erscheinen nun auch einzeln, und zwar als cd und lp. mit dabei ist unter anderem die 2016 gemasterte version von »young americans«, gepresst auf 180 gramm vinyl.
»young americans« ist das neunte studioalbum von david bowie. es erschien ursprünglich bereits 1975. was die musik auf »young americans« angeht, so verließ bowie sein gewohntes rock-terrain und arbeitete stattdessen mit verschiedenen soul- und funkmusikern sowie mit beatles-legende john lennon zusammen.
das album landete auf platz zwei der uk-charts. in den usa erreichte es platz neun. zu den erfolgreichsten singles gehörten der titeltrack »young americans« sowie der song »fame«, der es in den usa bis auf platz eins schaffte.
