sea power & change is a pseudonym for seminal portuguese producer tiago, a multi-talented musician and dj with his attention split between many musical endeavors, this self-titled ep marking his departure into yet another territory. these are four melancholic songs, each independent in mood yet collectively bringing to life a beautifully vague array of contradictions. with sea power & change, tiago taps into our perverted subconscious, developing a cinematic approach by coupling tragic pianos with slow-motion basslines, slinky guitars against industrial drums and grandiose synthesizers over tropical percussion, all bathed in pornographic overtones

kelley stoltz, now a veritable godfather to the burgeoning san francisco under/over-ground (folks like thee oh sees, sonny & the sunsets, the fresh & onlys), has blazed a path since the late 90s as a home-recording guru and multi-instrumentalist. and, while stoltzs nigh-religious reverence for all things beatles, beach boys and kinks has been at the fore on recent albums below the branches, sub pop) and circular sounds, sub pop), his new album, to dreamers, blends a bit more post-punk abandon into its layered everyman pop. this new album maintains the kaleidoscopic core of sounds heard on kelleys previous records, while making inroads into new sonic terrains.
suckafish p. jones, the self-proclaimed ringmaster of voodoo electronics, returns to evil up your soundsystem with his second ep for disboot records, >mr midnight<. released on 12 inch vinyl for disboot records, suckafish summons up four tracks of jagged robot funk from the depths of the swamp. perverting the tropes and conventions of uk garage, grime and hip hop, ?mr midnight? combines pulsing low end rhythms with possessive melodies to create a soundtrack to that full moon night that never ends. sleazy, emotional, violent and ecstatic at the same time, suckafishs latest offering maintains his reputation for productions that ignite the dance with raw, infectious energy and humour.
hans bouffmyhre is back on synewave after his debut lambada ep was released back in march. this remix ep features a re-work of >morning tinnitus< along with 2 great remixes of >lambada< by label boss damon wild & fellow glaswegians , bcr boys. hans has been on form recently with releases on perc trax, harthouse, 8 sided dice & his own imprint, sleaze records. this release is another testament to the production talent coming out of glasgow at the moment, with hans & bcr boys combining on one of the worlds most repected techno labels
>tuff enuff?< sounds just the way an affirmative answer to the titular question should: lean and muscular, with sinewy bass flexing its way straight through. its a song full of robust underpinnings and carefully placed counterbalances: synths that lustrously shimmer and slowly dissipate, keys that sparkle faintly at the quietest moments. the first single on from the cradle to the rave, the debut album from shit robot – aka marcus lambkin, aka >the godfather of dfa< – is a perfectly executed composition in >homage to chicago house, kraftwerk and gay electronic disco.< the b-side features a wild geese remix of >i found love<, another stellar track from lambkins debut. in the capable hands of djs dan foat and frank tope, the laidback original

after a short hiatus, misericord is back for 2010 with more off-kilter missives for back-room massive. first up is the welcome return of mr al usher. his >gnanfou< ep christened the label back in the summer of 2007 and was rapturously received / licensed all over the place. al has been quiet of late, busy being a dad and doing a proper job, but prins thomas put his out of the loop gem >lullaby for robert< out again in 2009 to much acclaim. this new release >hilversum< is very much its follow-up: al at his most unashamedly gorgeous, re-contextualising an old deutsche neue welle melody and weaving it into a characteristically intricate and beautiful piece of post-balearic loveliness. for the flip we commissioned a remix from one of europes most exciting new producers, barcelonas john talabot.
what a start into 2010. tokyos mega house hero satoshi tomiie is making his debut on stir15 with big time support from keepers of the house motorcitysoul. originally planned for digital release only on new york based saw recordings satoshi, hector and the motorcitysoul guys decided to license the original & remixes also to c rocks stir15 outlet to keep vinyl alive and all vinyl djs and lovers in the loop! the music speaks for itself. fat house with oldskool elements but not sounding anachronistic at all. even more, all four mixes made big waves already at green&blue festival and at cocoon london / matter with massive feedback! a sure shot for all house and techhouse heads and a very welcome relief from the current nonpersonal toolhouse releases out there. keep vinyl alive - we take you back to basics!
sometimes i feel is superb combination of solid percussion, filtered house backdrops of melodic synths chords and bumping bass, and a strong female vocal, making this a surefire peaktime pleaser. pick of the 3 takes here is the wild pitch vocal version, a stellar floor burner with some great added string arrangements alongside thumping house beats, a bumping bassline, and champagnes anthemic vocal track.
