the girl and the chameleon will probably fall under the genre tags of acid, electro and techno but it is so much more. witschkowski has been responsible for exemplary electronics throughout his career and this latest is undeniably some of his best. the album sees the exaltics don a dust mask. warehouse parties, strobe lights and fog machines and the 90s underground acid scene are definite influences. but theres more. across thirteen tracks and two slabs of wax the jena artist takes you on a journey into his world. gnarled and clinical grooves, caustic 303 encounters, depraved dancefloor destroyers and soothing machine music. a sonic trek through tough and taut textures with touches of tenderness. an album that shows a depth of ability, an enviable talent and a knowledge of how to break floorboards.

2015 has been a busy year for soul intent. relocating from nottingham to bromley, releasing -the fruit club ep- on lossless in march, his -wanna fight ep- dropped on klute s commercial suicide in august, the sci-fi themed -replicant- marked lossless music s first digital only release in october and his -late night sleaze ep- has been awarded mixmag s dnb tune of the month (nov 15 issue). on top of all this alex is about to launch two (yes two!!) sub-labels for lossless music. the first of these is exkursions. exkursions will cater for the deeper, more experimental side of dnb & electronic music. though concentrating it s tempo focus around the 170 mark exkursions will also be taking explorations down into slower soundscapes. the first release is a 3 tracker from soul intent and the tracks have already turned the heads of respected selectors including doc scott, presha, loxy and logistics. we won t say much for than that, we ll let the music do the talking.

i walk around in the solar field. from here, the surrounding beams look like cylinder­thick, motionless rain or comet tails painted onto the sky. the tower is all white because the sunrays are pointing directly at it, white in an erased way, like if you leave an empty patch on a drawing, and surrounded by a halo. i go over to one of the sun mirrors. it’s huge and darkish and cold when i touch it. i don’t know if it’s cold and immune to the sun or transfixed in a much more extreme way than the desert. a solar plant can take much more sunlight. it has direct access, like a clip through into the thing outside. the widest zone, like the highest point when it’s lightning. the sunlight is magnetic. intense heat from the mantle pushing against the crust to get closer to the sun.

japans leading techno artist yonenaga has been so much influenced by detroit techno. he launched his own record label select kashiwa records. derrick may already played his new promo which consists of 3 tracks. a1. room of glass and b1. fairies in the forest are highly recommended. his gorgeous but a bit rueful sound must sticks into your heart!

largely sequencer-based composition practices opened up barera s usual hand-playing approach and allowed him to create rich and melodic, yet precise and powerful techno. -the opportunist- conjures images of arriving in darkness, taking what you can, and leaving quickly to avoid detection. -discipline- is barera s full-on workout, with all the rushes associated, itself very much a product of discipline. -a new future- suggests an optimistic if uncertain outlook, a world where anything is possible, while -last glacial maximum,- which refers to a period in the earth s history when ice sheets were at their most recent maximum extension, represents a somewhat bleaker view. the musically kindred spirits behind massachusetts-based mentha records are ideal partners in this project, warmly embracing barera s wide-eyed techno concepts.

theres a reason kai alces name consistently comes up when the topic is exceptional house music. the ndatl label boss remix of the dangerfeel newbies * what am i here for* takes the soulful number to heights beyond the originals already heady groove. j piccola sings with a perspective thats like bopping through the city, skyscrapers above giving dimension to the groundwork so necessary for love and progression. his vocals match the pace of propelling keyboards by chris irvin and delvynw. saxophone by quinn mason adds an element that in alces distinctive hands becomes a part of all things classic house: deep, melodic, and ultimately, free. thats particularly true of the kzr’s late night mix. it harkens the wee hours with a shuffle, leading keys and pinpoint bass. the piano instrumental puts keys front and center, with a few jazzy chords that recall the hippest, dopest brunch you’ve ever attended. the entire project is very much atlanta-grown, representing its strong, interconnected music and art scene. all the key contributors are based in the city, from alce and the dangerfeel newbies, to acclaimed visual artist radcliffe bailey, who created the album art, and tastemaking graphic artist steve deniro, who designed the album layout. after small promo run in japan the gem gets a full worldwide release with alternate mixes and kai alcés bonus distinctive remix of * swingin with the new jack* previously unavailable

following the success of 2014 s ii , gala drop are back with a new single, nova . side a comes mixed by their principe discos homies niagara. we re in familiar gala drop territory here... floating psychedelic guitars & synths entwine with the deft drumming and intricate percussion, all weaving a psychedelic spell that transports you to the band s sunny world. on the flip lisbon s maestro deejay tiago takes us further into the same world, but via a different route. soulful keys and gentle congas ease us down to the beach to soak in the future jazz. pretty much, the message is... all about sunshine golf channel every time !

after the success of the henry wu & chaos in the cbd releases, rhythm section international present their 9th offering from mancunian newcomer contours. technician is a percussion led rhythmic exploration, spanning 6 tracks which take in down-tempo grooves to up-beat workouts, all held together by a smooth, lucid sonic palette and arresting, unorthodox live percussive elements. already an accomplished drummer and percussionist, contours manages to combine driving rhythm, lush textures and hypnotic melodies to create a sound that feels very much at home as part of the rhythm section imprint, while simultaneously pushing it forward into new, undiscovered territory. one for the heads, one for the dancers, one for the warm up, one for the afterparty.

cologne based jens-uwe beyer is releasing this new ep just weeks after his album the emissary was published on kompakts new sub-label pop ambient. while „the emissary was completed by beyer on his home island of fehmarn in the baltic sea, amor dark pink tencel satin suit is very much a collaborative effort.

we’re finishing 2015 with what is pretty much a mini lp by borrowed identity, an inspired producer based in freiburg. there’s a lot here and we think you should just listen to and enjoy the record, draw your own conclusions, but what we will say here is the a is ballsy house and the b is tough techno that touches on trance occasionally. get why it’s called the contrast?

prolific doesn’t begin to describe japan’s keita sano, who has come seemingly out of nowhere to become one of the most unique new voices in electronic music thanks to a wildly eclectic clutch of releases for much-hyped labels like 1080p, joakim’s crowdspacer, mister saturday night, spring theory, discos capablanca and more. building on that buzz, sano is unleashing still more head-twisting takes on house and techno via new york’s most excellent unlimited. label boss paul raffaele has found a kindred spirit in sano. their shared love of classic dance music and refusal to let genre or convention define their work makes mxu a natural home for the “sunset ep,” coming as it does on the heels of the category-smashing “oyama edit” 12” and a 7” of drum track edits by disco king danny krivit.

dj ralf is the italian icon who runs the much loved laterra recordings label and management, and is now back with ‘er suonone’, a new track from margot that is all set to be a late summer smash. anyone who has heard the legendary dj ralf (a cult figure who has been the subject of a documentary, has played all over the world, runs his own legendary bella ciao party and holds a cult residency in cocorico) play recently will most likely have heard this track in his set, and it has been an unknown but much loved secret weapon for a while now. as such this one sided vinyl pressing will please many people who have been hunting it down. margot, of course, is an italian pair of accomplished producers who have released on, les disques de la mort, hell yeah and border community and run their own margot records label. ‘er suonone’ is a pumping, deep, slow burning bit of cosmic house that builds and builds and teasers listens without ever releasing the pressure. monstrous kick drums drive it down below, pixelated stabs add suspense in the distance and icy hi hats slither in the foreground. it’s the sort of track to drop right at the peak time and it will surely go right off, with people fist pumping along to the groove.

vsa records debuts with the two label founders - vinyl speed adjust - forefronting two monster acid cuts - the a side -lost and found-, makes due with some very intriguing bassline rhythms, melodies, vocal chants and breaky hi-hat patterns whilst the b side - -black and white-, seemingly continues the idea, retaining the specific roland sound, but in a much more industrial techno fashion, with a more obvious kick drum and looped out rhythms. vinyl only.

sing like a bird (reprise) is a fresh version of the track originally released last year on peter van hoesen s time to express label, to which shuttle fans will have become familiar with in recent sets. it maintains the original s hazy reverbed flavour, but in the form of a more groove-oriented and psychedelic edit that sidelines much of the original s vocal track in favour of a snake enchanter-like synewave melody, for a less lyrical but equally musical new take. the b-side back here is an older track that shuttle has been holding back for a while, waiting for the right moment to reveal this atmospheric, melancholic and melodic track, in which intricately delayed layers of piano keys progressively unfold through a rich percussive background made of 808 rims, deep bass kicks, heavy toms and jazzy hats and rides.

following up the fantastic summer re-release of upsetting keys “empathy” ep, path records follows with its first new catalogue number since 2006. path 008 marks the return of artist fate 258, whose 1999 “why 2k” path 001 ep has been a hotly sought after item on discogs. the three-track ep contains two exciting new mixes of cult classic techno track “the path”. the a-side version “path to hell” is the harder of the pair, a dark edgy journey into the unknown with shuffling 808 rhythms providing much of the melody. “path to heaven” slows the groove down and adds warm juno pads throughout the mix for a very deep detroit flavored techno style. on the final track “heaven or hell” sort of a broken beat downtempo piece, sparse vocals and bladerunner samples mix to complete the dystopian concept. these mixes of “the path” are considered pre-mixes, as they were completed in 1998 before the original release of path 001. fate 258 is a project from brooklyn producer reade truth, known for his work over the last decades on labels such as planet e, sonic groove, n-syde, wurst and strictly rhythm to name a few. limited to 250 worldwide, with the first 100 including full black and white cover art.

ynk’s 2nd ep for polytone is much more than a continuation of his earlier records on polytone and tenderpark. instead, the young artist wants his new ep to be seen as an autonomous work which draws on a multitude of different materials. this leads to a very fluid texture of samples, synths and drum machines and a very detailed structure at first sight - however, all elements fit into each other very nicely and make way for the bigger picture if you take a step back.

behind is an expansive collection for hackford, who draws from experimental, process-oriented composition techniques to create sensorially engaging dance music. an ethos of presence, enrichment and dissociation pervades behind - by stripping away the constructed-ness of so much dance music, hackford allows himself to produce music that is as much a joy to create as it is to share. an ambassador of -ecstatic states- as he calls them, hackford s music suggests heightened temporal zones may be ubiquitous if you allow them to be. behind is a proposition of such ecstatic states, its music pulsing vitally at opposite ends of the bpm spectrum. distinctly unmotivated by polemic dialogues around dance music, behind seeks a more soluble musical space for unmitigated engagement. it is music inspired by transitions, no less vital before sunset as it is after the curtain call.

after contributing a remix for our label in 2011 daniel stefanik now returns to raum with his first solo single under his new moniker dlsk.
the a side * sense of doubt* is a bit more stripped down and melodic, as the b side and also the title track of this release * subterraneans* is more of a jazzy house groove, that simply doesn’t stop rolling and keeps the tension with subtle variations and other nice little gimmicks. as always we truly hope that you enjoy these tracks as much as we do and we are happy to have daniel back on board as for sure he can be called one of germanys top notch producers.

gliding onto unthank via the canadian riviera and the shores of orion comes lnrdcroy s debut solo ep. 3 tracks of heaving, dense, rhythmic ambience culled from recent live gigs in and around vancouver. this eighth release on unthank further strengthens the bond between lnrdcroy and parent label firecracker recordings, whose double lp re-edition of much less normal is due imminently.

roots for bloom hit release number eleven with another newcomer to the label. mara lakour deliver straight up house grooves from france to the uk based label. clark st is the big hotter here with powerful stabs and synth lines and that ever present prominent low end that roots for bloom is becoming known for. the whole ep carries a 90 s twang but brought very much up to date in great style.

money $ex continue to mine a rich seam of new wave sample house talent from germany s creative heart beating things down on this outing is alex seidel rubbing shoulders with luminaries like max graef & glenn astro seems to have brought out the best in this new producer as he skilfully lays out a familiar collection of roughed up sample jams and synth interludes, as always, hip hop provides a sturdy foundation for this house, but make no mistake, we re living very much in the future.

cool creations of st maarten were formed in 1975 by carlyle barriteau, funk gumbs and winston macco. they were all in our last year of high school in st maarten. the name coolcreations was inspired by kool and the gang, one of their off island influences. the band mainly played hotels, local dance clubs and carnival parades and they recorded one lp. these two tracks were taken from that little know but much loved lp which was recorded in san juan in puerto rico (no one can remember t...

a highly regarded producer and musician who used to be in the midst of the ny metro breeding reactor that spectatuclarely revived and modernized disco and italo disco since the turn of the century and added some hotliped live brass to their platters and whose sought after releases under his own appear appear much to rarely dons his house cloak and dagger for 3 sneaky new chapters on story. not wasting any time on unnecessary nicety the a-side track will send up a whole colony of ants right up your pants riding on a steamrolling percussive disco groove garnished with cut up vocals and fx trickery. b2 is another chicago style wedding of disco and house with a jubilant, string backed female vocal snippet tweaked over a heavy groove while the first track on the flip is a subterrenean, groaning dub house affair that reminds of a slowed down john ciaffone banger. no matter which chapter you jump to here it puts you right into the action.
