benedikt frey s arresting out of here was the second entry of our blanc series. originally a vinyl-only limited release, now the track gets a fresh new treatment in the hands of two mainstays of european techno: roman flugel and simon haydo. flugel s cosmic disco drama rework lives up to its name, maintaining the noir disco spirit of the original track but infusing it with tension-building sequences and strings that give it an extra mischievous twist. our favorite frankfurter also straightens the rhythmic skeleton and adds shuffling shakers to make it a relentless dancefloor weapon. haydo s remix delves into a more dismal terrain, transforming the vocals into haunted echoes, adding esoteric synths and topping it all with razor-sharp percussion in what sounds like a storm of ice asteroids falling into a lake of steel. the 12inch comes in a beautiful sleeve featuring an exclusive illustration by barcelona-based artist pau lopez and design by arnau pi.

this up and coming producer is already a legend amongst the crew of techno freaks in brooklyn. with previous releases on local imprint lovers rock, and releases slated for proibito and exotic dance under the the aliases dj python and dj xanax, dj wey aka brian pinyero has contributed a massive 12” to bank records. the a side “song for masahiro” is dedicated to masahiro ueda, a dj and friend who graced the bk scene by way of japan. it’s a bass heavy tune with melodic pads floating in the forefront amongst the occasional cheering sample. it s perfect for either opening or closing a set midsummer. in contrast, the b side opens with “flow on.” with its distorted kicks, relentless claps and hypnotic bells one could imagine hearing it on a nightmarish carnival ride...fit that into a set. the record ends on an electro tip with spaced out pads, backwards samples and classic electro style drum patterns. distinct in sound and diverse in approach, don t sleep on the homie dj wey.

robert witschakowski takes a break from rewiring the rules of electro with his prolific the exaltics project to deliver the eerie soundtrack album, acanthosaura. working with nico jagiella, with whom he co-runs the solar one label, the pair have created the soundtrack for a world of flickering shadows, dark ambient textures and ominous bass tones.
downfall theory embarks on a new chapter as it hosts a full release from a producer other than its owner, sanys. myztical isn’t exactly a newcomer though, and the ukrainian producer has already two releases to his credit on nicz records. given the title of his debut on downfall theory, it is no surprise to learn that myztical is using it as a means to question reality. inspired by the science fiction writer philip k dick and decades of electronic music, he certainly succeeds on venturing into uncharted territories on the title track. muffled, repetitive vocal samples, an atonal rhythm and relentless, slightly distorted kicks show that quite often, simplicity is the most potent ingredient. on “faith of our fathers”, myztical disappears farther down the wormhole. splintered rhythms, deranged howls and a deranged filter push his vision for broken beat techno into the abyss. “substance d” sees the ukrainian hotshot return to a more linear approach, pounding kicks underpin ghostly shrieks before a breakdown sees the track descend into grimy, woody mcbride-style acid. the accompanying vocal sample, the embodiment of a bad trip, only serves to accentuate the track’s darkly hallucinogenic qualities. finally, there’s “shifted realities” - it revisits the jagged filters of “faith of our fathers”, but does so against the backdrop of a pounding industrial kick and a grungy, low-slung rhythm.

nice price deal !!! the corestyle story continues... with forsaken is dead (known from his waking the tyrants device ep on corestyle last year, besides his various other productions for labels like meta4, industrial strength, six feet underground or hard kryptic) and cap (hard kryptic) we have two of the az hardcore junkies here. the a-side is represented by cap and starts with the title track this is not a war, a hard industrial uptempo pounder which is yet still atmospheric. the b-side offers 2 collaborations between cap and forsaken is dead. repeating patterns is rather techno-influenced whereas the second track, pulling strings (forsaken is dead remix) starts with a mystic intro and turns into a grooving and driving monster.

after his last year debut on fasrat das komplex is on fire - after eps for young adults and pets recordings here he is again with a brand new 12- showing his versatility and ability to seamlessly blend multiple genres. all tracks on -pudding- show clearly his dub and reggae influences applied to a light as a feather deep house rhythm frame, subtly infused with cosmic stylings and some synthpop nostalgia. at the same time, solid grooves carry das komplex trademark melodic hooks - resulting in proper heads music that would work perfectly on any dancefloor - and any radio alike. -pudding- sounds like a perfect teaser for polish producer s debut artist album - due later this year on fasrat.

daniele baldelli producer now has nothing to envy about daniele baldelli the dj. this is demonstrated by the authoritativeness of the first two 12”s of six in the series -cosmic temple” on the mondo groove label. what first strikes the eye are the covers, with fluorescent colors, which will form a patchwork created by aldo drudi (the designer of valentino rossi), a large mosaic that interprets garish aesthetics/logoa cosmic. but immediately after the music takes the stage: 3 tracks in -chapter 1- and 3 tracks in -chapter 2-, are able to tell the true mood of the imaginary baldelli’s sound and take them to a land of wonders. chapter 2: the phrasing of zircaloy, and still that yin and yang that composed krebs cycle, with burattini on synth, a race horse deep disco at 120 bpm that goes into stratospheres, and afelio, a lethargic space ballet at 90 bpm.

the house crime label debuts with this pearl of an ep by the new and exciting talents of steven bc and vrrs. the duo come through dangerously correct with their first release, and -functionz- is an instant hit, one of those tunes that has managed to find the perfect balance between drums and bass, melodies and vocals - a true old-school a-side for the heads. on the flip, -utukmylife (on the dancefloor)- is more speed garage than house, and the two producers pack another mean punch with this total banger, -house will remember-, on the other hand, is a real piece of chicago magic, a classic us house anthem with a rolling pile of drums, a huge swarm of bass and the right level of tape distortion. excellent
