the first spinning plates ep back in february was picked up by print media and radio tastemakers from ra and dj mag to b.traits and moxie, whilst djs as diverse as ivan smagghe and francois k slotted it into their dj bags. as such there has been much demand for a second release, and now it arrives in the form of a fascinating split ep from scene veteran andy rantzen and relative newcomer bruno schmidt, who helps a&r for the label. in fact it was bruno who came across andy’s tracks during a late night youtube session. andy, who remixed inxs and severed heads back in the day and is a sydney based producer who has been active for three decades, had upped a load of his old demos to youtube in the faint hope that one day someone might find them. and damn are we happy he did, because they are brilliant affairs that sound like little else. for his part, bruno has been a louche resident and hifi creator alongside andrew james gustav and gwenan and delivers an exceptional stripped down late night trip/early morning trip.

one of the most charismatic and respected djs in poland, eltron (aka eltron john) presents what is probably the most expressely club-oriented record in transatlantyk history. his four track offering sounds much like his sets - ferocious and subtle, raw and sophisticated at the same time. the main mix of b&s blends druggy deepness inspired by the vibe of 90s tribal america with uk funky riddims, creating the sort of pneumatic house groove that never fails to get the party rocking. this simple, yet meticulously produced tune has already been road-tested and received enthusiastic feedback from a number of jocks around europe, and the vinyl version seems destined to strengthen its deserved banger-with-a-message status. the dub version of fuses layers of darker, industrial bleeps with a classic break and a rather healthy dose of echo. trippy and rough, yet exhilarating - it is exactly the kind of track you want to hear in a dark warehouse. switch to the b-side for the light , where sampled vocals, pitched-down drums and fuzzy pads are combined to form a unique specimen of lo-fi r n b, eltron-style. this hazy groove is guaranteed to guide dancers ever-so-gently into the light of the morning. finally, reprise exposes the bare bones of the original. with its dubby, in-your-face quality, it is one for the track heads, definitely.

after the debut release on do not sleep become a sure fire club hit, the ibiza party turned much loved house and tech label now has another weapon up its sleeve. the next release is from perel, is titled charles manson and features another standout remix from resident darius syrossian. perel is a berlin based dj, producer and vocalist who is quickly rising through the ranks. she has released both originals and remixes on o*rs before now, and has a robust house and techno infused sound that simply makes you want to dance. as a dj she is a regular at cool spots like farbfernseher and impresses here with what she serves up for do not sleep. the original is a chunky, no-nonsense house track with bouncy bass, subtle vocals and the sort of futuristic and soulful pads that help make it really stand out. it s a slick, well produced sound that is sure to make it into many top record bags in the coming weeks and months. the remix from darius is a subtle one that layers in some trance inducing vocals and extra breakdowns so as to really highlight the powerful effect of the drums each and every time they drop.

yoruba records is proud to open 2016 with a forward thinking ep and album teaser from yoruba fan favourite toto chiavetta. hailing from catania, sicily, his deeper influenced house sound is a hit at yoruba and we couldnt be more excited to welcome him back. this ep opens with the beatless mix of * impermanence*, the title track from his forthcoming album. tshaka campbells vocals lend unbelievable perspective to this jazzy, guitar-led chill out track, while also giving listeners some serious food for thought, an easy track to lose yourself in. up next is * take care*. influenced by the classic chicago sound, this bass line driven cut pushes the style in new directions while maintaining an absolute dance floor focus, a must-have to kick off the year. we close with * be the wind*. this techy, spaced out groove is well suited for the late night hours, its moody synth lines gently tease as you await the addition of the dance floor ready percussive combination. we hope you enjoy the forward thinking sounds of this release as much as we’ve been excited to bring them to you.

benedikt frey crafts a musical aesthetic that (much like the esp institute) might only be seen in its true form from a birds-eye view—a whole greater than the sum of its parts. his playful indifference to genre specifics and pre-prescribed instrumentation or production techniques makes for a loose and refreshing collection of work, and this debut for the esp institute, the lobbyist, serves up an incongruous three tracks so bewildering and narcotic we’re already impatiently fiending for more. on side a, the title track is no less than a medieval assault. led by a stomping war drum and a blasting bass synth that might literally have caught the studio on fire, an erratic array of clanking percussion, hi-hats and cymbals push us into a sinister corner where his whispering chant grants us the smallest bit of humanity before continuing with the beating. on side b, cupids delight (ft tcb) and gravel both explore variations on beauty—the former in a blur of ghost-like vocals smeared in harmony across a low-slung machine drums, and the latter evoking a tropical affair gone psychedelic, complete with drawn-out disorienting marimba and ritual clave/tom arrangements. welcome home brother benedikt, what took you so long?

this is the much sought-after album from 1978 reissued as lp vinyl for the first time. showcase was recorded with the revolutionaries and the aggrovators and mixed by ossie hibbert in a vocal & dub extended version style. the lp comes with the original artwork, 180 gram heavy weight, remastered, new vinyl cut and leaflet with extended linernotes. jimmy riley is a veteran reggae singer who started his career as harmony singer for the treasure isle label with producer arthur duke reid and joined also the rocksteady stars the uniques in replacing slim smith for a brief run of hits before deciding to go solo.

serge devant returns to the forefront with always on my mind for damian lazarus crosstown rebels, complete with remixes from kornél kovács and pirupa. first heard on lazaruss essential mix in 2015 and much requested since, always on my mind has been causing tremors in its wake. oceanic waves of melody frame muted vocals from ali love, resulting in a chiselled classic bridging the splintered sounds of today.

following the recent acclaimed release of his “space” lp, on which bruno “patchworks” hovart transformed himself into patchworks galactic project for a fantastic musical trip, favorite recordings proudly presents this new 2 tracks remix ep. on the a side, rising uk producer ny*ak provides a blowing version of “surrounded by the gobblins”. what do the letters stand for? why the asterisk?” you ask. the origin of the asterisk has something to do with donating dates of birth on family trees, from back in the medieval times. in music, an asterisk denotes when a sustain pedal should be lifted. ny – new york? ak – alaska? is it something to do with the three stooges? nyak nyak nyak… it leaves the mind thirsty for answers... in reality andrew scott, the man behind ny*ak, banged his computer keyboard in frustration one day – and out came ny*ak. if that’s taken the shine off it a little, we’re not worried. listen to any of andrews tracks and we guarantee you’ll be drawn straight back in, but this time – deeper. for the b side, underground house producer kool vibe also delivers a brilliant rendition of “gobblins are gone”. producer & owner of kv records (paris), record collector since 1993, and definitely part of the new deep house music scene that is emerging from france at the moment, laurent, aka kool vibe, was born in paris in 1970. kool vibe s music reflects the best of the 90s house music sound that he manages to love so much. in 2011 and 2012, his first releases have been cult tracks out on “my love is underground” and “traxx underground” imprints.

french label d3 elements returns to chicago for its next ep, this time looking to the assured house talents of hakim murphy for three tracks of raw, dense grooves right from the heart of the windy city. opener boxbeat is a curious, freaky jam with bobbing percussive hits, wonky, pixel thin synth lines and free roaming pads that wrap the whole thing in a nice sense of spaced-out serenity. taste o rainbow has a much more firmly planted kick drum that pounds away uninterrupted below a free flowing brew of modulate synth sounds. it s expertly reduced and masterfully reserved and is sure to send dance floors wild as a result. the flipside cut freshness has pinging drums and a big, frazzled bass line as slithering chords rain down the face. musical yet jacking, cosmic yet propulsive, it is a perfectly contemporary chicago house sound that rounds out a fine ep from one of the best in the game.

all good things come to an end, and the very polish cut-outs is no different. the fifth sampler will be the last in the much loved & long running series. for the farewell record, label boss zambon has selected five unique reworks from top producers from poland and beyond.

soooo here we are with the tenth and final release, thought it would be nice to finish on a nice zen like number, so this is a extra special release kind of a mini lp almost -opened up by fx mchn flush the trush is an intro to the comp and a reverse funk skittish affair next up is new man on the block for us here we been sitting on a collection of his tracks but felt this one complemented this ep the most, ecco foul, gloss is a sleazy machine groove that does t do much but thats just the way we like it .then comes mr facade with his jerky funk sweet surprises and warm melodies. the b side is opened by another newcomer from running back record hugh mane new age dawns whose track come s deep and wide open has to be heard on the headphones as well as the club jamie blanco s chord arrangments get opened up and spaced out by lht office boy toby tobias in a detroitesque ditty thats been used to open a few sets in 2015 already and finally alphonse delivers an out and out machine jam with the usual dub influence brought in vocal fashion.

as the d edge label clocks up release number 24, it turns to the phil hinter ensemble for a fantastic three track package that is filled with fresh house vibes. phil hinter ensemble is a joint project by phil s main pillars philogresz and german simon hinter. they have ties with labels like their own phil, love unlimited vibes and of course d-edge. previous eps have gone down well around the world and simon hinter s smart grooves and sample based fill-ins blends with the wombastic bass and shivering synth lines of philogresz perfectly. up first is the owl, a squelchy, synthetic house track with lively drums and chords and magical trumpets all making for a party starting track. it is perfectly arranged and expertly musical, unlike much of today s plastic and sample heavy sounds. in the air then gets even more playful with glossy synth stabs, rumbling bass and diva vocals all bouncing along in a charismatic style that is full of colour. struggle then gets intimate and final with scurrying little percussive sounds, burst of afro vocal, down low sine waves and icy snares all making for a perfectly seductive minimal techno brew

over the past several years, j(ay).a.d has released several eps touching on footwork, dubstep, grime and dancehall, approaching dance music with a wide open lens that tends to blur accepted genre lines. a bjork co-sign earlier last year jettisoned the amsterdam-based artist into the popular consciousness. raised in suriname, j(ay).a.d is the consummate dance music outsider and despite living in amsterdam, his music hardly ever fits in with the citys house and techno hegemony. the ogri ai ep is very much a blueprint record, simultaneously paranoid and dark, its seeped in industrial dread and natural beauty. and while many of j(ay).a.ds contemporaries attempt to create more alien sounding music at the expense of a human element, the ogri ai ep has been a overlooked milestone for the hybrid footwork & grime realm, and its now back on re-stock.

every dog has that certain spot: you scratch it, and your four-legged friend starts kicking out in highest ecstasy, losing all control of his reflexes. the tunes of timboletti work pretty much like that. only he s using full-bodied bass lines to stimulate his audience. it almost seems like the bodies on the dancefloor get invisibly connected to the membranes of the speakers and their rhythmic movement. on top of that, timboletti employs psychelicious sounds and melodies, enchanted sample scraps and a pinch of acid, a cocktail that tickles through the brain of the listener as if somebody poured a glass of champagne into it. the essence of forward thrust and deepness, on this ep in five different variations and tree further remixes.

taking chris munoz s (aka the sexicans) take on sometimes from the forthcoming spike remix lp orange cloud version as its starting point, golf channel favourite justin van der volgen shunts this bad boy that little bit further through the doors of the club, puts something on its tongue and kicks it into the big room.beefy drums, a stoopid fresh bass line, big vocals and a tough, explosive, rocky guitar riff ensure this one has anthem written all over it.flip over for 4 more unheard spike gems, little lost nuggets that didn t find their way on to the much loved lp orange cloud nine but need to be heard: you can do it is much in demand already amongst those that know, and the closing cut careful is a fragile beauty.

all three original tracks are long building, big room, grooving stompers with a lot of emotions that would fit in various sets pretty much at any time. to keep things entirely d footed, the legend, the man of weird, beautiful, unique and reduced techno world - terrence dixon rounds things up with his hypnotic re-interpretation of title track.

for our 9th release we bring you 4nyon3, a new techno project emerging from the city streets of madrid. this installment will be released on a 3 track vinyl and a 5 track digital ep. 4nyon3 takes w0rkt34m to darker and rougher territories, but keeps that raw, analog sound we love so much, with a high dosage of funk.

heralding from brighton, married (production) couple sam and tracy presented classic with some music classic was very familiar with. not only is sam a member of the legendary gramme, but has also featured on a number of past luke solomon originals for classic…so are already part of the extended family. classic immediately warmed to the music and the music already felt at home. looking for the right remixer begun - classic played the tracks to long-time member of crazy p - a certain mr basejam and immediately leapt to them and remixed not one – but both of the records on the ep as he loved them both so much. the result is a meeting of minds sounds and words.

mikal is a producer who has made a name for himself by making stand out drum & bass tracks that have caught the attention of djs and listeners alike, he has released on a multitude of labels but it is metalheadz that are releasing his debut album.
the album is called ‘wilderness’ and it was very much worth the wait. a no nonsense statement of intent from the bristol based produced who has been quietly working away in his studio and is now ready to show the world his work, collaborations on the album come from chimpo, xtrah, break, riot and sophie barker.

whilst its neighbour has always taken the plaudits on the party front the steely city of sheffield has its own house history, with much of it residing in the warm buzzing darkness of the studio. its here that we find our latest robsoul rookie. a fresh name for the label, but a producer who is far from new to the game. tommy vicari jnr’s first release was pressed to the black gold and released back in 2004. since then there have been sporadic outings, but the last two years have seen a reinvigorated tommy roll out over ten new releases and play a huge part in putting sheffield s house music firmly back on the map. threshold of eternity sees tommy drop the northern grit to replace it with shimmering warmth and sunshine vibes across all four tracks. fidgeting rhythms, chopped samples and groove-heavy beats and bass are spliced together to create an essential feel-good release.

not much is known about manchester based producer belly, his online profile merely states live artist & vocalist from the uk. what we do know is that he releases records on his own imprint belly dance uk and that the 3rd instalment in this series (produced by la s seth cobblepot) is yet again hard hitting and dark. following on from the previous 2 records, featuring timothy j fairplay & headman respectively, he has invited 2 more underground powerhouses, brassica & thinnen, to contribute their takes on his new ep simply entitled water

italian dj and producer manuel fogliata hasnt released a lot of records over the last ten years, but the few he has put out have always been worth tracking down. perhaps best known for his work alongside donato dozzy in creating the much sought-after aquaplano records at the tail end of the last decade, nuels solo outings have been just as consistent and just as impressive.

next on raw tools is irish producer and label owner, costelloe, delivering two tracks much in the manner of his previous works, both of them at the fine line between techno and house music.
while the title track, “infiniti” is definitely a dance floor track, with its rave pads and solid bassline, “pheta x” shows a more darker side of costelloe’s music. both of these cuts get special treatment from two of the most prolific and respected producers out there, lerosa and dj overdose, rounding off the ep with two amazing, yet diverse remixes.

from france comes fabrizio rat with a 4-track ep constructed entirely from acoustic piano and drum machine. mr. rats unique sound design blew our ears away, particularly at a time when so much techno is more reliant on following a blueprint rather than trying to push the frontiers of what is possible, which to us was always the true raison dêtre of techno

its always been tricky predicting what firecracker recordings will release next, though few would have expected an ep of freestyle, darkside drum machine jazz and percussive drone from berceuse heroique, nous and bedouin regular healing force project. sounding like early 23 skidoo replayed on drum machines and samplers, theres much to admire about the hectic rhythms, foreboding textures and dusty samples at the heart of gravitational lensing. its unclassifiable and completely out there, paranoid, dense and intense, with the fizzing drums, mangled horns and metallic percussion hits of random walks just edging out the experimental jungle-jazz madness of apophenia in the top tracks stakes.

ruf dug’s debut album ‘island’ was released to much acclaim in 2015 on kenneth bager’s music for dreams imprint. it sold out its first promo run within weeks and scored top spots in many ‘best of year’ reviews. now for 2016, ruffy has picked some of his favourite artists to rework his tracks and this is the result. limited vinyl - dont sleep!

releasing an album is a daunting task, especially in dance music. you got to keep it fresh and exciting from the very beginning until the last track, not sticking to one tempo, make tracks that work both at home and in the club and ultimately tell a story with your music. alexander lay-far knows a thing or two about this, having his debut album so many ways out back in 2013. the thing with lay-far and a big reason why we ve always had a soft spot for him is his way of incorporating a certain magic in the tracks that leaves you on an uplifting and optimistic note. therefore we re really excited to release his second album, how i communicate, on local talk. how i communicate is a two part vinyl release which we hope will come as a fresh breeze in these days where so much dance music simply lacks the actual musical aspect or the organic approach. like most producers and djs that are influenced by soul, disco, jazz and the blacker side of electronic dance music its all about the actual tune . listening (or dancing) through this album we hope you ll find your special tune (or tunes!) that hopefully will bring joy to your ears. to his aid lay-far has invited an impressive cast of collaborators such as ashley beedle & darren morris, restless soul, sean mccabe & mark de clive-lowe to give the tracks that little extra something under the watchful eye of lay-far himself. or as lay-far describes it himself the album is about the music as the universal language, the ultimate means of communication, bringing people of the world together. part 2 will be released in the new year...
