black truffle presents people pleaser, the new lp from nantes-based drummer and percussionist will guthrie. initially rising to prominence in australia as a drummer in the fields of jazz and improvised music, guthrie later turned increasingly toward electronics and amplified percussion, developing an idiosyncratic style of electro-acoustic performance characterized by shimmering metallic textures, rapid-fire textural transformations and aggressively high volume. recent years have seen a return to the drum kit in both solo and collaborative work, in performances where guthrie uses duration and endurance to push at the limits of his formidable technical abilities as a player in the free jazz tradition, working variations on short rhythmic units into an endless flow of non-metered pulse.

after an ep on creme organization off-shoot jericho one as dj plant texture, dona basile now assumes his dona alias for a new ep on the main label. entitled the v.g.p sessions, it features four new cuts from the italian, with three of them being dj pt mixes. up first is a live cut version of energia , a bristling electro track with globular bass and coarse hits. turbulent but full of synth based serenity, it is a fine start. cigarettes (djpt mix) is rugged and broken, with glossy idm synths and corrugated drums all loosely arranged into something prickly and unsettling. the deads at twelve (djpt mix) then gets even more fucked up, with rusty synths and blown out drums making for a dystopian house groove that will likely soundtrack the apocalypse. last but not least, nr. 13 (djpt mix) mixes up detroit synths, wild acid, heavenly chords and chopped up, buried deep vocal samples into something that will fire every synapse in your body. this is outlier stuff from dona that sounds like little else.

in ancient greek mythology, olympos was the living place of the twelve olympian gods and has inspired our limited series record label under the same name. olympos, will release a series of eps , with the figure of an olympian god, from various artists which will remain unannounced until the project is complete. kicking off the series is hephaestus, the god of fire and metal. dounai and lavein is an ancient greek phrase meaning give and take. a-side features lavein which is a broken beat, glitched up number, with a rather metallic timbre. resonances, filters, drums and arpeggiators arranged and programmed in style, resulting in a modern electronic piece with plenty of quirky, edgy vibes. on the flip side dounai is a melodious, esoteric and slow moving late night /after-hours affair, which expands slowly and steadily over a beautiful chord progression of lush strings and sparkling pads. a steady punctuated beat rolls smoothly throughout the track, completing this ep in a misty, hypnotizing and charming fashion.

the furnace series is a two-part compilation of music inspired by a special room in the montreal apartment shared by booma collective from 2012-2014. when venues to throw parties became scarce, booma used this room leading to the fire escape in the back of the apartment known as the furnace as a space for small gatherings among close friends. the furnace series is a collection of memories of those intimate parties and impromptu jam sessions. part one features four tracks by booma collective founders and friends, beginning with psyche, a hypnotic, dub-techno inspired composition with oscillating, piercing sounds, evoking whistling flurries. solparas garden in the furnace echoes the hollowed-out concrete architecture of the furnace itself, filling up then emptying its atmosphere with layered drum machines and ghostly voices. cf01 is the result of feedback experimentation carefully arranged into a slow tribal jam. oren ratowsky. producer of booma collectives first vinyl release, rounds off the b side with gorby, an eleven and a half minute exploration of his mastery of analog synthesizers.
