we are delighted to announce the wagon repair debut of montreal native stephen beaupre. one half of crackhaus, a long time collaboration with deadbeat, stephen has recently released solo material on labels from musique risque and ~scape, and put out his debut album on mutek’s own imprint in 2006. in honour of the great ancient persian empire, ‘achaemenid’ roams stridently with tight kick, clangorous melodic cascades and prodding rhythmic tones. ethereal string pads and moaning atmospherics imply conflict, narrated by catchy vocal passages from beyond the murky depths. a reverberant rhythmic synth line injects life into ‘lotus eaters’, with static vocal samples and penetrative melodic tones forming sonic structures around deep tom and rattled hat. grossly intoxicating, elements lull into a mellow haze before reanimating into a wildfire finale.

olmeto, a small town in corsica, is infamous as the birthplace of the family vendetta. we chose the name as it has an air of mystery but also a bit of fire. we felt that we wanted a label with us as the only artists free to do what we want, how we wantà this is release number 23. all have been ours, and range across the house spectrum, vocal, minimal, tech and deep and probably a little of each in all. the raw road and madagaskar whilst different, are made from the same mood. a strong rhythm with elements brought in and out, like a good dj, you lock the groove and then begin to play around it. although all tracks are by us, we do bring in artists we like to remix from time to time. the raw road will be remixed by mark broom and nic fanciullli and they will join artist such as loco dice, green velvet and unkle who have both remixed tracks over the course of the label.

permanent vacation are delighted to bring you the second chapter of the first space oddities saga compiled by alexis le-tan (music journalist and member of the tigersushi bass system) and jess (formerly of the famed french house duo jess & crabbe and now drummer for punk band 10lec6). the pair met in 2001 through a mutual love of no-wave and leftfield disco. in 2003 jess came upon a big collection of library music, which he bought for next to nothing. whilst he was ciphering through it and finding the most interesting extracts, alexis was digging in all things cosmic, where along the way he also started to pick up many bits and pieces of obscure mood musics. in 2007, they put together some of their best space disco treasures giving birth to the highly acclaimed space oddities project released last july. as the first episode of space oddities was reaching to an end and following the amazing feedback they received, the parisian duo started working on the next volume in the heat of 2008’s sunny days. a new direction was chosen: more organic, guitar lead and psychedelic than the previous one, still focusing on the dancefloor and their love for freaky synths and fierce beats.
