its always great to have access to quality masters from some of the world s greatest-ever artists and gladys knight hits that spot, especially via the original 12 inch version of love is always on my mind is another one of those impossibly rare buddah 12 inch from the mid-70s. this is really a 10 minute plus tour-de-force of relentless disco with gladys impassioned vocals doing their usual superlative job. mint 12 inch copies are reputedly worth £200 but the fact is that theres no mint original ones left anymore. until now. additionally we ve cheated slightly by including one of gladys knight & the pips in-demand columbia recordings on the flip - the ashford & simpson penned classic bourgie bourgie on which gladys laid down the definitive vocal to this club classic on the full 4.37 original 12 inch mix. two definitive dancefloor gems on one 12 inch pressing mastered from the original tapes. what more could you want ?

m&g was the duo of maurizio “sangy” sangineto and mirko galli from vicenza, italy. sangy began his music career in 1979 with italian disco group firefly and recorded a solo album steps in 1980. two years later he co-founded italo-disco band the creatures and synth-funk crossover act the armed gang. he met young dj mirko galli at l altro mondo studios in rimini.

it is making my blood boil. man, my jaw is hanging down listening to this stuff. read the email from butthole surfers man and producer, paul leary, when he heard the demo for what would become the debut philipp gorbachev & the naked man album. philipp gorbachev, the russian musician and dj, has been throwing killer parties and making some of the most innovative and exciting electronic music to come out of moscow in years. in 2014 he released his debut album silver album but when invited to perform a live boiler room he had something else in mind: a band scenario. the resulting concoction was not something locked into a 4/4 beat but rather a much more organic, groove-based sound with funk-strutting bass lines and live drums that rolled and flurried around the beats that jumped around leading the charge of the songs along with gorbachev’s damo suzuki-like vocals. taking that experiment into the studio, i dont give a snare is a wild ride that jumps genres, switches paces and alters tones frequently. the opening goodman exploding in intense rhythms and heavy, spiralling riffs that at times recall sabbath but the ever-shifting drums and gargling electronics give a wonky freshness that feels impossible to place into genre. whilst gorbachev cites a range of influences from beck to blind willie johnson as being core to him, the primary motivation is the live nature of the project itself. the main influence is the constant live experience we have as music players and performers. i want to get the most out of every party, every jam, and every dancefloor.

back to back 70s roots shots from joe morgan, his first and second ever tunes. while many know joe from his wackie s anthem basement session, joe was already producing himself in the mid 70s on his own afro black label in jamaica before coming to nyc. both of these tunes are stone cold classics long hunted by roots collectors, and the rhythms used should be familiar to astute listeners from other brilliant cuts. joe continued to record and produce himself and other artists on his own main imprint fish tea, and other labels label thru the 80s. the two tunes issued on this fish tea 12inch both originally appeared as afro black label 45 s in jamaica, and the b-side also on a pet shop label 45 in nyc

originally released in 1978 on greg charmichaels red greg records, ‘lady bug’ and -love bug- are probably bumblebee unlimited s most recognizable hits. now repressed on the get on down label ... with an undeniable groove, signature keys and arrangements by patrick adams in addition to the comically sped-up vocals, lady bug is considered by many to be one of the most important underground tracks of the disco era. as with the original -lady bug- 12- single, the john morales and frank trimarco -sunshine sound- mix takes the a-side of the rca release. a true disco version in every sense of the word, this almost 10 minute mix brings out the latin percussions to the front making it a true dance floor classic and establishing john morales as one of the best remixers in the industry. the b-side belongs to one of new york city s hottest djs at the time: larry levan. despite being a very early remix by the legendary paradise garage dj, the talent was evident and his understanding of a club mix in wide display. it’s no wonder larry levan would go to become one of the most respected and revered remixers of his generation.

released in 1997, wyclef jean’s debut “the carnival” was a critical and commercial success, receiving two grammy award nominations. “the carnival” spawned the singles “gone till november”, “we trying to stay alive”, “guantanamera” and “to all the girls”. the album features guest appearances from celia cruz, the neville brothers and jean’s bandmates from the fugees, lauryn hill and pras.

multi talented uk jazz pianist greg foat has teamed up with mercury award nominated the bees member and multi instrumentalist warren hampshire to collaborate on a new lp drawing on their diverse musical influences. classic british library music, 60s italian soundtracks & lost americana combined with touches of modern classical, minimalism, jazz and folk. featuring many members of greg and warren s previous bands and one of the u.ks finest jazz drummers, clark tracy, the lp also features an edinburgh orchestra and soloists hand picked and scored by the boys. recorded all analogue onto 2-multitrack in edinburgh, mixed down by mattias glava at his studio in gothenburg, sweden then mastered and cut in helsinki, finland, it s truly a european affair flying in the face of the brexit nightmare. release june 2017

this is the 3rd release on riot radio records, an independent techno label based in scotland. ingen is an edinburgh based producer who s sound is one of harsh complex poly-rhythms and soundscapes that crosses over into the darker realms of techno. over the years he s appeared on many respected labels and also works regularly on projects with some of the worlds techno elite. for those lucky enough to see him battering out his stunning live sets, playing alongside such lumineries as surgeon, whitehouse and the advent, these humbled few know exactly what extremes ingen is capable of reaching to crush your senses into submission. on this release, along with the original version of haste makes waste , there are remixes of this beast of track by lag, martyn hare, paul birken, duellist and the riot remix (ingeneered by taser), each one taking the original composition down a different track. the ingeneers have spoken.

the analogue cops are back with their minimalistic project ocp. stripped down drums interlace with synthetic lines, pitched samples and moving pad, to develop an expandin groove. the atmosphere changes through each track, giving four different view of a common concept.

o celebrate the 25th anniversary of ugkãs first album, get on down goes the extra mile, presenting it for the first time ever on vinyl. and 2-lp clear vinyl at that, giving the strutting, funky grooves the chance to really stretch out on your system. back in 1992, southern hip-hop was still proving to the world that it could sustain a fan base that was chiefly raised on rap from new york and la. the geto boys and 2 live crew had made strong cases by the earliest 90s, and pimp c and bun b were ready to make their own. most of the trunk-bumping bass comes from drum programs and basic sampling on these tunes in later years they would build their sound into something even fuller and deeper. self-produced with additional work from houston locals bernie bismark and shetoro henderson, the tracks here are minimal, slow and menacing, which matched their lyrical approach quite nicely. you can hear the beginnings of the groups true greatness in these early lyrical workouts ¹ several taken from the regional cassette-only ep the southern way that got them signed to jive with tales of street hustles, relationships and self-reliance in a world stacked against them. they may have been done early-on, but that doesnt mean they arent crucial to ugks legacy cases in point being the three singles: something good, a charismatic update to bill withers use me up, and pocket full of stones (the latter featured on the menace ii society soundtrack). beyond the singles, deeper cuts like iãm so bad, feels like iãm the one whos doin dope and cramping my style made it clear to the world that this crew had the attitude and charisma to make even bigger waves in the years to come.

walrus has no fear! by taking care of the maiden release on his newborn label “basic moves” he shows the spiritual direction and marks the blueprint for future offerings. the concept is simple: a 12” always has two different sides. one track on each side, each track a different mood. “full of feeling” resonates like the synthesis of an endless night encoded in washes of sounds. twisted, alienated vocal signals communicate in deep space to form a teasing, never-ending, spine-tingling groove. the weekend lingers on, the dream is not over. “among the thugs” is stripped down music for abandoned warehouses. a distorted vision of bleep techno and druggy chicago acid house hides deep in the quirky waves of this wobbly and moody crowd mover. the ghosts of after hours haunting sweaty warehouse clubs from the past seem to float over these excellent tracks. walrus refers to the best of all eras but forges his own unique stamp of modern dance music. underground clubs are where his music comes alive.
