long time friends cesar merveille and ryan crosson return to visionquest to reignite their ‘merveille & crosson’ project in late may with three fresh, intricately programmed cuts. visionquest boss ryan crosson and parisian cesar merveille need no introductions, with the duo’s back catalogues featuring material on the likes of revered imprints cadenza, desolat, little helpers and mdrnty. 2011 welcomed the introduction of their ‘merveille & crosson’ project, with their debut album ‘drm’ on visionquest gaining plaudits from industry heavyweights including ricardo villalobos, and after a five years absence here we see the duo return once again to deliver ‘dream state’, a three track ep that oozes quality from the off. the a side is home to title cut ‘dream state’, a production that tumbles and twists smoothly around meandering synths, crisp percussion shots and a bumping low ends, typical of the duos free flowing and evolving production styles. on the flip, ‘guns’ sets to work through pitched down vocal loops, sweeping sonics and rich textures all reinforced by a driving bassline that carries plenty of groove, before ‘time contraints’ slowly unveils itself with a series of off-kilter gliches and pops, delicate pads and sophisticated sound arrangement, concluding yet another fluent and immersive offering from merveille & crosson, and an excellent addition to the visionquest catalogue.

visions congo is yet another moniker from discrepant’s head honcho, goncalo f cardoso, taking africa as a starting point to evoke the memories and re-imagined experiences of his 6-month stay there in 2015.

shaun reeves & tuccillo mark visionquest’s first release of 2017 with their ‘origin 99’ ep, comprising four collaborative original tracks from the pair. individually shaun reeves and tuccillo have been driving forces in the realms of underground house for quite some time, collectively releasing on labels such as raum, 2020 vision, circus company and more. this time round though the pair’s material finds a home with visionquest, label co-founder shaun reeves joins forces with tuccillo, following his solo ‘full time’ ep on the imprint in 2016, for a new synergistic release. up first is title track ‘origin 99’ which sees the pair deliver a smooth understated house style via organic percussion, winding dub stabs and tension building atmospheric to create a subtly evolving six and a half minute cut. ‘one two five’ follows and lays focus on a more stripped-back aesthetic with sparse rhythmic hits, tumbling sub hits and a dreamy bell chime melody. ‘prowler’ opens the latter half of the package with soft chord sequences and wandering delayed synth lines running alongside 303 bass and shuffled snares before ‘blood moon’ closes the package on a raw minimalistic vibe with swirling dub echoes and intricately evolving percussion.

early september will see jorge savoretti release his river plate ep via visionquests special edition imprint, comprising three original compositions from the argentinian artist. having been involved in electronic music as a dj for over two decades now jorge savoretti is firmly cemented as one of the argentinas finest electronic music exports, starting from his humble beginnings in rosario he has gone on to release material with esperanza, claque musique and igloo-rec as well as touring the globe throughout. here we see jorge mark his debut for the visionquest special edition imprint with a new three tracker and taking the lead is title track river plate, radiantly showcasing savorettis dub-infused percussive led style with choppy swinging drums, ethereal pad swells a snaking sub groove and dub chords which ebb and flow throughout. following is parana high which takes a more refined, low-slung approach via soft chord flutters, bright stab sequences and bumpy sub hits while a shuffled percussive drive further fuels the groove. last up to complete the package is u-fonk which delves into darker territories with mind- bending glitch synths, robust rhythms and a vacillating bass lead running throughout its six minute duration.
