for the past few years, young denmark vessey has been releasing a series of albums, both as a leader of carious groups and as a sideman in various others, which definitely mark him as one of the most exciting young players in music. vessey’s last album prior to this (2013’s cult classic) employed scud one for the rhythm section. vessey, in his own playing suggest that he may be forging a link between the new mainstream and prior innovations. it is to vessey’s credit that this album achieves a surprising degree of unity. there is little of the haphazard feeling that too often arrends blowing sessions by pick-up bands. it would be easier to mistake this for a group which works regularly. part of that is simply because vessey is a part of the new mainstream, the part that is seeking beyond the accepted common language to find ways of extending it. the rest is because of vessey’s unusual talent.

for their latest vinyl release, the tink! music label looks to lisbon and the enigmatic duo gatupreto, whose modo di trabadja 12betrays all manner of influences that seep beyond the realm of house music. in their own words, the art gatupreto generates is simple, unpretentious and sincere, it owes to the classic rave vibe as much as to the rawness of hip hop as much to the sunset of cape verde as to the sunrise of the lisbon riverside.this manifests itself in two understandably diverse productions from gatupreto with the heavily percussive workout of vahagn s closing remix of grandi loba of particular note.

a nasa satellite has confirmed the ancestral tradition of the -music of the spheres-, that celestial bodies emit harmonic sounds. although the music of the spheres has led first to the notion of universal harmony and then symmetry, it has now been discovered that the sun s atmosphere actually emits ultrasonic sounds and interprets a score formed by waves that are about 300 times more severe than tones that can be captured the human ear. this time, orbe represents these sounds.

stephane lefrancois & jameson gilvarry team up for the latest 12inch from the secret music label and find inspiration from a canine icon of space travel. laika is named in honour of the first cosmonaut dog, depicted here on the cover art and lefrancois and gilvarry convey her journey through an uplifting, rolling techno cut that doesn t seem to stop building. complementing the original is a remix from dantiez saunderson who strips down the groove, while giving it a swung, offbeat feel. staying true to the original, this version also introduces another layer of melodic synths, extending the journey, making it deeper and moody. the booming, clean low end and bouncy high end keep the groove propelling forward.

for the next release on souvenir, the label dips into the past of almost 30 years ago to retrieve this forgotten souvenir of the times, dusting off and rejuvenating section 25s classic, desert, taken from the album, from the hip on manchesters infamous factory records.

after life recorders 90 state release, argumento strikes back with the 9th argument ep, a various artist record showcasing an uncompromising techno, carrying the new fresh sounding grooves with traces from the past. peter sliwinski aka echoplex does not need any introduction. more than 2 decades present on the scene with numerous classic works on his label soleil and other platforms like synewave, end to end, imf, he always represents the detroit sentiment spiced with pounding grooves along the way. this time is also not different with his opening track of the ep called recovered.

the mysterious duo project overall severity landed on fabrizio lapiana s attic music with an intense three track ep called -helene-, second installment of the new hurricane series. on the first side, in -vario 7288- they make an intricate journey immersed in a dark noir melody with powerful techno rhythms and plenty of alien sounds. -unable to assess- on the b-side turns into a hypnotic-linear sound focused on an obsessive and scientific atmosphere where the loopy drums light the way. an ambient flow closes this work, -emotional harm- is an evocative result of accurate sound design full of bleep, breaks and distorted chords.

back at it again, taking the true essence of the “jacking” sound of chicago house and putting it’s own stamp on it is what obsolete music technology has done with their new 12&#8243,, entitled, “volatile.” warbling, wobbling, distorting, sinisterly acidic basslines abound is the best way to describe this release! for dance floors only! you have been warned! “volatile” starts off with some 707 drums intro and then fading in, is this tripped out, bubbling bass sound that sends you off a cliff! just when you think that’s all to the track, dark, melancholic pads comes in for added atmos-fear! rounding out the a-side is “killin,” with it’s 2 acid style basslines, one sounding at a high octave and the other at a lower octave. riffs playing separately sounding great, but when played together, there is something slightly, mentally off. on the b-side, “broken siren” is high energy! 808 tom drums bringing the funky low end while a short, electronic piano lick drenched in warm, fuzzy, flange effect. setting it off is a decayed sine wave, mimicking an actual alarm sound. lastly, “electric current” best describe this distorted acid bassline and its tweaking filter and resonance controls over jacking 808 drums
