theo parrish and an all-star cast featuring warren harris, marcellus pittman, bill beaver, jerrald james and mellissa botts take you on a deep excursion to the roots of afro-american music with this free-spirited live jam. after setting the mood with live percussion and a thick live bass, a bluesy guitar, cosmic keys with a sun ra vibe, wailing soul vocals, theo s instantly recognizable beat and later a bitter-sweet violin solo all join in and create an unique atmosphere that is totally mesmerizing. the >reprise< on the flip continues in a more stripped down, piano led way. two shining example of sheer musical genius

07.09.06
in the wake of raudive aka oliver ho (podium 1) comes amsterdam native shinedoe who with her 2004 debut >dilemma< (on 100% pure) instantly accomplished what others never achieve: respect and support by the likes of väth, hawtin and villalobos. her style: straightforward, strictly functional detroit techno - with an essential and effective touch of soul. as her debut album is expected for september 2006, we may catch a glimpse into the near future with her track >amsterdam meets berlin.< here, she does what she s best at. she uniquely creates atmosphere with just one chord, relying on the power of harmonies. but watch out. when the dreamlike vibe leads to a sudden change of keys, we re all puppets on her strings.

MODERN DYNAMIC

dj support : dan curtin, daniel stefanik, dominik eulberg, jambi, james flavour, anja schneider... gummihz s 2nd release of mobilee comes straight from the bottom of his heart. the concept of >modern dynamic< is based on developing grooves by manipulating the dynamics of a sound, rather than composing melodies. a side consists of a steady groove with a few surprises taking place in the sonic spectrum and a dominating fm tone evolving throughout the arrangement. it is the kind of tune that delivers pure freakness on the dance floor. flipside is set in a deeper atmosphere with a sweet electric piano groove appearing in the end, reminiscent of the starting time of deep house. agony develops during the first minutes of the track, leading to a relaxed groove in theme with the sweet summer breeze

nice price deal !!! ethod records has been home to some amazing release. be it the esoteric aura of sworn s >treatment declined<, or the lush atmosphere of shiloh s >latex<. so the expectations i hold for this label are high. you should all be familiar with >cry a river<, as it has been floating around for a couple years now..

18.07.06
real life testing reveals it all, therefore we have nothing to add to serafin s comment about the a side: >i have been playing this in virtually every set for the past couple of weeks, and the reaction of the crowds is simply amazing. this performs extremely well in a club setting, it sounds perfect (and loud!) on every system and people are responding to it instantly. i often extend this with the loop machine to well over 10 minutes, with an absolutely devastating effect. this is a bomb, trust me on this one!< on the flip switzerland s premier dirt funker agnès delivers one of his nasty treatments. the sthlm audio head pulls all the stops on this one: bass action from below underground, weird noises and nicely shuffled hihats compose a charming and warm piece of music, carrying a strange and deep atmosphere!
SCHRUMPF METROPOLEN EP

14.07.06
a: tral 49 - a easy beat with good placed cheeping sounds and well-balanced grooves are the key elements of the track >tral 49<. after a dj friendly introduction gloominess and psyche meet each other and invite to dance as both complement each other in full harmony and build the peak to the basis. b 1: zwischenlandung is a minimal track which atmosphere bringsa convenient feeling. the track starts with an emotional bass line which makes space, in the continuing story line, for a melancholic melody which coherence and charm never gets lost. b 2: der kuss des drachen -the finish is a nice homage to all which prefer a more relaxed motion but don t want to start sleeping on the way. a grooving beat cooperates in effective harmony with a classic chinese stringed bowed instrument so that you don t want to stop to seesaw in the rhythm. the whole time short padding sounds build up and down without losing the red line or leaving space for boredom

sleepy hollow was obviously inspired by the movie of the same name. it is one of my favourite pictures by tim burton and i really like the dark, creepy atmosphere of it. the bass-line recreates this mood to an extent that it scares me, makes me shiver. i mean, really! regenerate has such a strong techhouse vibe to it, again reminiscent of the early 90s and a very strong groove. excellent percussion programming and modulation by stephan. this one builds and builds until it completely gets you. personally i think all due respect is the most laidback, reduced track on the album. we came up with this distinctive, monotone melody/bass and i loved the feeling right away. definetely the kind of music that i like to play on a sunday after hour session

big with james holden & thomas schumacher !!the a-side will and has already proved to be the perfect dance floor track while the b-side shows a deeper and more serious side of the label. with its funky base line and humoristic build up-break, subaquatic mechanic brings new life in to the myth of atlantis. playing games on the other hand, is techno for the david lynch generation. the atmosphere is so dense you can feel it. yes, you actually feel something when listening to this track. not so very common in dance music today and this is the reason why kontra-musik is here. the finishing track, high voltage monkey, brings it all down before it wraps it all up to a complete product. expect support from: richie hawtin

once again saasfee presents an arist that grows his tracks far away in murmansk. stitched together from various vinylgroove-sounds, the first track on slowstep s >shantage ep< builds his very own atmosphere of the grooveworld over time, with support of dark minimal beats. the b-side comes even deeper with two floating, intense darkgroovetracks with bleepy undertones, growing mercyless over time. this must be the most bass-oriented release to date on saasfee! our top tip!
NIGHT FALLS EP

>night falls<, has the potential to become a summer-hymn, awakening reminiscences of the old days, creating a more epic and filigree atmosphere. the taster single for booka shade s soon to be released second album >movements< works with a spine-tingling trance riff over scuffled, hazy beats and a strong story-telling bassline. on >trespass 06<, arno and walter delve deeper into pared back club material: a follow up to the experimental track >trespass< which they produced back in 1995 for their then label, touché, the 2006 track dispenses with infectious melodies and hooks, following instead a linear, tribal influenced rhythm

a1 starts with a pleasant warm mood. short, funky keys, a cool bassline and shuffling hihats push this track forward - smoothly but surely.>breast milk< on a2 starts a bit more aggressively, with a slightly distorted bass sound and some rough beats. added chords mixes the rough atmosphere up a bit, finishing in an extraordinary mixture which makes this very special piece of club music. the flip side boasts trapez artist alex under s splendid remix of this track. the rework of the spanish producer delivers an unbelievable bomb of funkiness and high-end groove. enormously powerful music, presented in such a fleet-footed way. big fun & frenzy on all dancefloors!

the sentinel invites you further into his dark and menacing psyche. the deepness and electrotronic funk is bounceing right out of your speakers infectious percussion, dark, funk filled sounds playing on your paranoia. one of the killer tracks on this records is wrong time which gets straight into some electro funk bass with warm eery synths and mysterious lyrics and a deep space musical atmosphere. you might very well get lost in this one. get down and get real low and engross yourself in the thick funk and idiosyncratic german vocal from down under. great release on this cool label..
cv 209 gets the remix treatment by belgium based producers spirit catcher. funky electro house, purely in their own stlyle, the track contents 2 acid breaks which will make all the dancefloors crazy. he bass line sounds pure electro and the voice sample gives the track a very special atmosphere. also on the 12 a remix by yuksek , giving his perverse version of this sweet song. electro acid oriented, the remix starts with a long rise which leads to the entrance of voices. then it becomes groovier, hypnotic and sensual

kosovo floats in with a liquid, subtly swinging beat, bubbly bassline and gentle key chords creeping in slowly: first sounding sweet but later on changing on into a beautiful yet haunting and slightly sinister melody from a grinding musical box. the intense, slightly unsettling atmosphere - as in an italian 70s horror flick - is further enhanced by the permanently nagging acidline and horn lick synth pads. for more manic dancing check orange feels: totally insane chopped up beats and f*d up string loops challenge you for some advanced electronic boogie

PATTERN EXPLORATIONS (CD)
CD
04.11.22
after an ep visit from germany based artist basicnoise, it was only a matter of time before he presented greyscale with a full length. and what a strong album it is too! pattern explorations is mixture of heavy dub grooves that verge on deep techno. chords and grooves coexisting in full dub harmony. pattern explorations part 1 pulsates thru the lower frequencies making this an optimum dancefloor workhorse without losing the deepness to get transfixed by. creatives basslines and structures are explored to their fullest. patterns are experimented with but never overstep the boundaries of making a proper dub groove like in part 2. part 3 clocks in at over 13 minutes making it the second longest foray into deepness. there is a feeling of hope and eternal beauty as the atmosphere blissfully sets in among the surroundings. the patterns aren t limited to rhythm section as this one is a testament too. chords share a stratosphere with melody elements in complete grandeur. part 5 is a bit of a banger as the relentless beat pulls the listener forward in unison. part vi is particularly exciting adding remnants of an acid line and many other unique spacey bleeps and zaps. uncharted explorations for the genre of dub techno on this one! part 7 is just down right sick. over 14 minutes of an unforgiving and highly addictive dub tech groove makes this a sure-fire dancefloor destroyer. the reprise of part 2 brings the mood down quickly for an otherworldly lullaby. drifting off after that uptempo ride makes for a smooth landing as the album winds down. basicnoise came with it for greyscale s 23rd full length album! pattern explorations in full effect!
SURREALISM (CD)
CD
11.05.22
the 21st full length release on greyscale is by none other than the home town hero sraunus. a veteran of the label, we are thrilled to have the fellow lithuanian back once again. the depth of surrealismus is nothing short of amazing. how only 7 tracks feels deeper than any double cd set, we are still trying to uncover and understand the entire scope of this release. sonically, it is a true gem of pushing the limits. idea wise, this album is cohesive and awe-inspiring. holowuka is beautiful and gentle opener. it sets off a serene almost deep sea diving atmosphere with the long delays and low frequency chords vibrating through. the melodic elements open up even more, a vast world as the track evolves. from the low key and moody to the pumping aggressiveness that is hroniglas ii . a true monster with a sick combination of trance and deep techno thrills. jueootas conjures of memories of 1990s ambient techno with the light and airy feeling of nostalgia. a lovely adventure on the high seas. jurgynas continues this theme with a beautiful ride into a sound that is blissful and forever. some of the most soothing dub techno we have heard yet. lapunai is another strong candidate for being our most favorite on the album. featuring what sounds like excerpts of violin s over some amazing layered melodies. a shinning moment and a perfect example of a dub techno track s emotional potential. lastly, ramunanas submerges us in a beatless (but not bassline-less) sphere of magical and shimmering sounds. a true master-class of more ambient dub techno. sraunus is back and if surrealismus is any example of what he has in store, then everyone should bookmark his choice where he shares his latest news. we think this could revival any dub techno release for album of the year. it s that good!
