cpu and dance musics polymath neil landstrumm share a love for classic bleep techno, hence landstrumm has brought to the table four superb reminders of the criminally short lived genre. with spine tingling melodies reminiscent of 808 state s best work, and sub-bass worthy of lfo s bass-bin shaking reputation. a death, a mexican and a mormon perfectly encapsulates not only landstrumms influences but also his deep seated love for bleep. a labour of love which the sheffield based imprint has been only all too happy to encourage and hopes will keep the genre alive for generations to come.

i made music together with lee for years (alongside mick rolfe) as last waltz. he also worked as lizards with james hadfield (james released solo for me me me 02), oli worriner, is a talented young northerner who’s already making a great name for his solo output, both under his own name and his traela alias, as well his label “tunnyl recordings”.
i’m really flattered that they’ve let me release their first full solo release, and i love how they’ve brought out each others deeper and more emotive sides in these 2 tracks. shit robot is a hero of mine. i basically wore out the grooves on a bunch of his dfa stuff from just over 10 years ago, and i’ve avidly bought everything he’s released since. i met him this summer for the first time when we shared the bill at a festival, and was so happy to find that he’s also lovely guy in real life. they say you should never meet your heroes, but i don’t subscribe to that as this meeting led to not one, but two fantastic remixes for me me me 08. the originals are a bright mix of melodically analogue left leaning house, while the remixes zero-in on a punchier dancefloor vibe, with an epic version goodnight, as well a more heads down disco dub.
so yeah, links within links, and keeping it northeastern again i guess.

for those unfamiliar with the atipic releases, it may seem that buenos aires’ jorge savoretti has chosen to swim upstream on the latest atipic installment. as for a trained ear, the apparently bipolar approach, elegantly touching quite a few electronic influences from different decades, has a cohesive unity in all the 3 tracks presented. hidden under the sharp cut filters from the happy side a tune or building the groove to be unleashed in full swing on side b, it is up to the dancefloor characters to find these elements. rather unconventional, yet totally subjective, atipic004 is a proof of concept on how different angles can generate twisted and unexpected perspectives on modern electronic music.

you probably don t know this disco banger, i think there is about 4 or 5 known copies on 7inch, everyone who has a copy has been keeping it quiet. i first heard it from david haffner about 4 years ago and had been after it since then. after a lot of research i came to the conclusion the everyone involved had passed away, but months after giving up after i spotted benitas full name on another related lp credited as a backing singer. i was then able to track down benita who was alive, well and surprised and very happy to hear from me. this one is a beast and will fly out (i find myself saying this far to often).

the copenhagen based pop wonders blaue blume return with a new ep - sobs. the band formed around 6 years ago in a provincial danish town, drawn to each others love for rich, playful music. blaue blume (blue flower) is the epitome of a romantic band, their songs are brimming with love and yearning. now ‘sobs, the follow up to their ‘syzygy album in 2015, continues to build their reputation as a best kept secret, about to find a whole new audience of devotees. all four tracks for the ep were recorded in late 2016 in a three story villa, formerly owned by a religious cult. the band used the weird space away from the city to create a framework for the lyrics and the music. the band explains: blaue blume has been our band for about 6 years. in a bigger provincial town we started playing right out of highschool. at the moment we live in copenhagen and every day we play, write and work on sounds. its sort of become a life project. in our heads we make music that is playful, rich in detail and popish or somewhat smiling. for some beautifully inexplicable reason we ended up doing music together. in a way it seems sacred or at least meaningful. macabre is a happy song about being afraid of dying. some of us find that even the best life can be lonely sometimes. we found it interesting to address this taboo within the frame of a song that people could potentially dance or sing along to.

the underdogg is the title of dj tre’s debut ep for hyperdub. he had two brilliant tracks featured on our dj rashad tribute compilation next life, but compared to other longterm members of the teklife footwork crew, he hasn’t released much, so we’re very happy to bring him out to play again here. tre has been about since the early days, born and raised on the south side of chicago. encouraged by the late dj rashad and his partner dj spinn, he has been making tracks since 1999, over a decade before footwork’s ascent to global popularity. on this ep his sound, for the most part is rooted in the speedy 4/4 of juke. it features a sparse and minimalist take on footwork but he’s got a knack of adding in tight little switches and details that keep the tracks moving as essential dance floor weapons.

optimo trax presents a 4-track ep from germanys mathias schober, head honcho of berlin’s lossless label. as always we prefer to let our artists do the talking. heres what mathias has to say about this release - the idea behind all tracks on the ep was a simple setup of drums and one synth that would do a main sequence/sound, yet theres a lot of detail in all of them. in a certain way features a 808ish beat with a main sequence coming from a tiny monophon synth called atmegatron - 8bit love, it turned out being much more music than i thought it would be when i set everything up. but what rules are made for is the same setup but the sequence is a 101 and so are all the washed out fx synths. on is to break them i went a different route, i had the dub, delayed stabs synth first as i was messin with my moog and a space echo - which btw is used on every single track i release, if you haven’t noticed yet. so i was trying to build something around those stabs in order to fit the track to the others and so i ended up with another sequence coming from my moog. as there was still space on the record, i decided to add an ambient version of is to break them, i love the ambience on this track. i hope that my love for dub sounds is obvious enough on these tracks. happy i found such an excellent home for the ep!

by the 1970s studio one and clement ‘sir coxsone’ dodd had already proved himself to be the defining force in reggae for almost two decades. from running the downbeat sound system on the lawns and yards of kingston in the late 1950s to opening studio one at 13 brentford road at the start of the 1960s, ushering in ska and rocksteady and establishing the careers of most of jamaica’s artists – everyone from bob marley and the wailers, ken boothe, toots and the maytals, the skatalites, jackie mittoo and more – clement dodd had until this point dominated the jamaican musical world.

headed by a carioca who was blessed with the name of his own city, moodisco contains a 3-track bomb from leo janeiro with doc label boss gui boratto and a very special remix by french act rodriguez jr. this could just be a happy coincidence, were itÆs not for the fact that leoÆs trajectory made him a protagonist of the electronic music scene in his hometown, rio de janeiro. he built a career dedicated to music. in a city with so many daytime attractions, it is the night and electronic music that has been blessed with his talent. he has compiled an impressive list of residencies and performances globally. known as one of the ambassadors for brazilian electronic music, leo has the ability to combine originality to a universal language. just like his hometown. on this limited edition vinyl and digital release, leo janeiro, gui boratto and rodriguez jr. presents a serious track sequence of techno and house beats. each artist has kept its own trademark. öi had a lot of ideas and one of them was to have a remix by an artist that i admire, respect and have a personal relationshipö, says leo janeiro. rodriguez jr. house for her is a label founding its birth in the need that she s gone had to express his feelings in his mixes and productions. the time came to him, 1 year ago to give the floor to other people, to let everyone build pieces of music around their lived experience. in this release, the four artists came to cover in mist the wax in a cascade of tablecloths sometimes soft and other times more aggressive, to develop a ep rich in questioning, ranging from dance pieces to other more ambient things, linking them together to tell a story. raär and mp-57, as usual, darkened in the pile, revealing brutal tracks but nevertheless completely full of feelings. devant, with a more colorful touch, has come to appease the ep of a piece of a house deep and sexy, endowed with an atmosphere reminding us much nostalgia. and finally entrave, in a final piece, quietly envelops us to finish to walk in this ep, as in a novel, a kind of sombre happy-end.

(new 2017 masters) after the widespread success of the first minimal vision compilation on the resurgent vibraphone recordings, the true underground sound of rome return with a second volume that takes in tracks made over a 23 year period. what comes across is how consistent the sound is, whenever an individual jam was made. the same heavy-lidded melodics and easy-funking rhythm sections prevail across all nine cuts here, at times hitting the uplifting pace of vertigo or heading into the meditative pastures of sea bird, but always maintaining that quintessential vibraphone feeling. the diggers will be happy to snag the reissued tracks as well as discovering completely fresh material from rome s premier deep house institution.

dmt 013 is philippe petit s first and only techno attack for 2017. the record starts with lose yourself (part i) , an atmospheric track with a groovy rhythmic pattern that builds into a menacing acid trip. it continues with one life , using some very clear dubby pads, snare and toms, its underlying baseline bringing a happy feeling to the e.p. lose yourself (part ii) is aggressive and hypnotic at the same time, its intricate structure leading the listener to a state of trance. the record ends with distant memories , a prime time techno cut with several layers of synths to cover all sound frequencies to devastating effect.

since our beginning, manny cuevas a.k.a. dj m-traxxx has been a big supporter of snuff trax. in return, we totally dig his amazing radio shows and podcasts. this man’s heart is beating for chicago house music and you can feel the impact on all of his productions. snuff trax is very happy to present a whole manny cuevas record: „thee jackin’ zone e.p.“ for „you’ll never know (twisted fantasy)“ manny invited the amazing dj and vocalist josh caffe. together they created a seductive tune that takes us back to the golden era of house. a truly irresistible affair. with the tracks „a matter defined (acid house)“ and „thee jackin zone“ manny captures the wild pulse of the dance floor. sincerely raw, that’s all we need.
