following his uplifting 2015 single holdin on and its techy b-side faces, rony seikaly is back for another release on yoshitoshi that proves this renaissance man is a force to be reckoned with in modern house music. the two tracks on this ep possess deep grooves, but also flex a fair amount of melodic muscle. they liken back to the sound yoshitoshi became well known for in its infancy. the sword centers around some tribal percussion and carefully woven melodic ideas, but the track?s focus is decidedly on low end. a burly, assertive bass gives the mix a driving character suited for late nights. at time it feels like a modern take on progressive house from another era. all of a sudden is more or less an extension of the first track, giving the ep defined consistency. it s a delicately arranged and straightforward house feeler, the meat coming from a multitude of interlaced chords and melodies maneuvering carefully over more tribal percussion and a monstrous kick. the mission here is to inspire awe and wonder in dancers, and seikaly delivers on both accounts.

inspiriert von ihren kleinen weltreisen, verarbeitet marla vergängliche liebe mit zarten, country angehauchten fingerpickings auf ihrer gitarre. ihre melancholisch- und verträumten melodien, die sie mit ihrer heißeren tiefen stimme begleitet, lassen in nostalgie schwelgen. bepackt mit ihrer akustikgitarre und der liebe zur folk-musik, tourte marla im vergangenen jahr im alter von 20 jahren bereits halb europa sowie die weiten kanadas. ein mix aus erstaunlich ehrlicher selbstreflexion und ihrer doch so positiven einstellung macht es am ende schwer, die tränen dem lachen oder dem weinen zuzuschreiben. in ihrem debüt album, welches am 1. april über das label melting pot music erscheint, wird ihre stimme von hammond orgeln, cello und slide gitarren durch ihre geschichten begleitet. ihr album madawaska valley wartet nur darauf, gehört, verstanden und geliebt zu werden.

sebastian fiegen rolls out his debut solo release for cadenza records this spring, with a trio of excellent house cuts on the theofidelity ep. the german producer has been crafting quality productions for some time now under aliases and collaborations, and its on lucianos label where he makes his mark as a solo artist. dopeman opens the ep with a rolling chi-town house style groove, a simple yet effective filtered vocal loop and sustained strings harvest the feel good vibes over its solid beats. fiegen keeps up the pace with anando, more drum led house grooves with a high production value, the vocal refrain cutting in and out of the mix whilst the simplistic bassline and woody percussion maintains the bouncing vibes. closing the ep is th01, again coming correct with the feel good factor with its use of the looped sample and lazy, hypnotizing drums. a cracking debut production from fiegen, and a well rounded release for cadenza.

originally released via ascetic house in 2015, vereker’s grace tape owes much to the canon of vintage anti-music, exploring catharsis via a transgression of traditional compositional & technical values. working with the same thematic concerns of much of the more leftfield additions to the avian catalogue - in it’s more subdued moments, anxiety & dissafection, in it’s more high energy - pure hysteria - the recording pairs basic synthesis with warped vocals in the same manner as industrial progenitors throbbing gristle and steven stapleton (nurse with wound).
the reduced palette & crushed production aesthetic creates a powerful immediacy, with a twisted musicality being drawn - at times, kicking and screaming, out of the depths of the mix. like much of vereker’s best work on labels like lies & berceuse heroique, elements warp & twist uncomfortably within the tight confines of a reduced dynamic spectrum - creating a dark, heady energy. scetic house, the predominantly cassette only label, has seen appearances from la’s silent servant, northern electronics’ varg & avian’s own shifted - under his covered in sand alias.

siren sind darshan jesrani (metro area, startree) und dennis kane (disques sinthomme, ghost town). ihre erste recording sessions fingen im winter 2013 an, aber die anfänge ihrer zusammenarbeit reichen zurück zu ihren gemeinsamen residencies im berühmten new yorker hot-spot apt und anderen parties, die sie organisierten. nach dem mitreißendem und euphorischen a/way mit mr. reed, im herbst 15 veröffentlicht, klingt ihre dritte maxi paradise sowohl eindringlich, als auch recht kolossal und treibend. paradise kommt mit einem zugleich fesselnden, düsteren und mechanischen late-night techno dub von gavin russom (black meteoric star, dfa), und als digital bonus bekommt die maxi eine hagere, futuristische, drum machine-geleitete 5-uhr-morgens-in-new york-mäßige reinterpretation von siren.
