the new year starts with the welcome news that the cosmologist returns with episode three of the cosmology series. trip 1 started life as a tribute to 70s radical firebrands the last poets and their 1977 clarion call to arms, *its a trip*. a loose and ever changing collective, the initial line up was formed on may 19.1968 to mark malcolm xs birthday, having all met at east wind, a harlem based writers work shop. they took their name from a revolutionary south african poet keorapetse kgositisile who rightly prophesized that the talking would soon give way to the persuasiveness of the gun. continuing that thought, civil rights for african americans was very much the beat of the last poets, a cause they would champion and indeed, were not afraid to back up their mighty words with direct action.

deep shit is brought to you by jack savidge of friendly fires and edwin congreave of foals. deep shit is the newly founded dj collective, promotor and vinyl only record label based in the capital with a celebrity status. the label was founded by indie superstars jack savage of friendly fires and edwin congreave of foals as well as adam parylak. managing to work a glitzy electro pop into their day jobs in the underbelly the trio have a fancy for the deep sounds of future bass music. the debut release from the deep shit label came last year from congreave with the afterhours moody house monster heal, including remix by a1 bassline.

discovery recordings is proud to release coule ba by analog players society, a collective melting pot of musicians lead by amon. couleba draws from west african influences and features the incredible missia saran diabate of guinea on lead vocals. we came across couleba while finishing the catalano ep at the hook studio last summer. amon was doing his final mix-down of the track and we fell in love with the song immediately. shortly after we lined up the release, the studio and surrounding areas endured hurricane sandy. with the red hook initiative, amon and his family began helping out wherever they could. when power finally returned and the debris was cleared, it seemed only appropriate that the record should benefit the organization that did so much for red hook during that time.
