lv return to hyperdub with a taste of whats to come on their forthcoming south london-meets-south africa album sebenza, due at the end of august. what lv make here is the exciting prospect of music influenced by south african house and kwaito, informed by regular trips out there and sessions with up and coming south african artists such as okmalumkoolkat, ruffest and spoek mathambo, but letting the influences of uk soundsystem music and hip hop bleed naturally into the mix too, creating a genuine hybrid.
berlin based producer murphy on exploited... , with releases on clone, turbo and recently hypercolour, he has carried on the vibe of chicago and disco. on lets get to it he features one of the true cofounders of the real chicago vibe: mike dunn. on the remixtip serge santiago (who is recently in waze & odyssey) came up with a totally unexpected hot uk garage mix that already has been praised by skream. move your body to the sound. too good to miss this one! early support by a variety of djs: from joakim, to skream, to soulwax, to noir, to visionquest, robert owens, dirt crew and many more.
played by sven väth im boiler room! vinyl only! vinyl runs from the inner side to the outer side like the old nsc cuts from back in the days. pure detroit house and techno. this track was made possible by my good friends blake baxter >the prince of techno<, greg stafford from b.a.m and the soulful gospel singer quwona >dee dee< toney who truly loves the lord. santonio is very well known from his releases on kms or network. together with reese (kevin saunderson) he wrote techno history and delivered some of the most important techno tracks which tag the revolution of techno music. santonio licensed tracks to tresor records in berlin, react records, infonet, express, network, bpm recording, and random recordings in belgium.
dj t. gave us his fine album, the pleasure principle last winter. since then ts given controls to top producers for high grade remixes. this time daniel bortz, clockwork and dj t. himself take on >leavin me feat. khan<. jump right into things with the clockwork remix, a sweet blend of house-party amience and maintime club sensation. the rhythm alone could keep us dancing for hours, that mixed with the itchy bassline and arousing vocals, ensure that no one is feeling anything else. clockwork delivers a solid remix, more than worthy of >leavin me<. the b side shows daniel bortzs remix in full view. right away, a full beat pulling you into the rhythm, building to the entrancing chord play. the vocal lines give a sensual tone to the mix,. right at home in berlins watergate or a closing party on ibiza, this track carries us on, while the night hours fade to early morning. t.s > left with attitude mix< finds us in the deepest of nights, where flashing lights illuminate our ecstatic faces. heavy piano chords roll and the beat fades, pure sound. the kick brings us back to earth. t. meets us at the part when you realize you have found what you are looking for and all is right in the world
dj t.s pleasure principle album immerses itself, wholly and rapturously, into electronic musics legacy of authentic soul, helping to usher in a renaissance of groove-heavy house. following the success of the albums singles burning and sense, dj t. turns to the sultry vocal track >city life< to launch into summer anthem mode. dj t.s unconcealed dancefloor curiosity brings his body music instincts to the fore, with the classic sounding house number >city life<, shadowy quirks disarm and charm, while cari goldens uniquely programmed vocals add broad brushstrokes of texture and atmosphere. >city life< recalls the 1980s warehouse era, and finds cari crooning, siren-like >the citys in my veins…<, mixing a rough-round-the edges vocal treatment with hands-in-the-air chord stabs. the >dj t.s rework< spreads the arrangement wider, and dj t. draws even more groove from the original with his dub version. a deep bass swing drives the track, and increases its intensifying atmosphere
dj t.s pleasure principle immersed itself, wholly and rapturously, into electronic musics legacy of soul, and helped to usher in a new period of groove-heavy deepness. like an antidote to clinical club sounds, album standout tracks like sense inject some well needed groove into the dancefloor. the maxi version of sense partners faraway melodies with james teejs breathy vocals that get up close and personal. a deep electro funk bass riff establishes its intent, and snaky percussion leads to a more structured house beat. piping flute sounds and drum echoes add an element of swing, while analogue handclaps and the tracks distinctive bass line recall its retro pedigree. newcomers tale of us continue their journey into dark minimalism, with a remix that isolates the percussion and vocals, shrouding both in reverb for maximum atmospheric effect. a sense of unease pervades through the saturated bassline and slow delayed handclaps, creating frosty mists and dark corners within the synth-tech house arrangement. hot natured duo lee foss and jamie jones next bring their sunny midas touch to the proceedings. teasing out the intro with high hats and layered vocals, a sense of anticipation is high. it blooms into sleek, skittering beats and otherworldly sounds, with a bass line thats been cut & paste back into place, before it delves deeper into a menacing deep bass synth rumble. the club version begins with a kick, deep echoes and meek percussive sounds that loop upwards through the scale. the distinctive bass line and handclaps begin, then teejs unadulterated vocals are pushed to the fore. brittle metallic synth flares appear from below the bass-heavy beat and recede again, ending in an electro-disco retro groove
berliner martin dawson and polish duo catz n dogz join forces to bring us this fierce three track ep entitled no nights. the first track on this release is no nights. brimming with warm pads and an accusing, dark lo-fi synth line this version has a deep vibe to it and the ability to really get under ones skin. following this the berlin-polish team hit us with no nights (beatz mix) a catchy tech-house number with a lo-fi synth line sporadically accompanied by a melodically decending dubby synth. combined with the crisp vocal line this makes for a very promising track. no days, the last track on this release gets straight to business with distorted vocals and a menacing bassline that intertwine throughout the track. varying rhythmical flourishes keep it interesting, while tripped out synthesized sounds guarantee to get any dancefloor grooving. we couldnt be more pleased with the results of this tenacious trio and we look to the future in hope that they are already planning further collaborations.
