st. petersburg talent ivan latyshev drops a killer ep on the ever-dependable dessous recordings. ivan has been making waves over the past couple of years with his distinctive brand of deep, groove-heavy house music on labels such as what’s in the box, street king and spaghetti monster - but this to my youth ep sees the young russian step up to another level. the title track shows a deep affiliation for classic house vibes, mixed with some jazzy flourishes and swung grooves. the sense of euphoria is tangible, and the spoken word vocals add a level of house mysticism that will be always welcome on deeper leaning dance-floors. cant go away goes a shade deeper still, bringing layers of delay and reverb to the track that help shape a true slow burner. old ages also highlights ivan’s love of jazz rhythms and sounds, building from a live drum break into a rolling deep house monster - its infectious stuff and suggests ivan latyshev is going to be name to watch in the next months and years.

i first met leon vynehall in berlin before a gig at the amazing about_blank. we had a fun conversation and he played a really good set that night. much later i realized i had been playing one of his tracks (total s) for ages! we stayed in touch and i asked if i could hear some of his new music. he sent me five tracks and i signed four, that is a pretty good score if you ask me! smart and conscious about his music and his output, i think this ep is really only the beginning for leon vynehall. i am glad i am able to give it a platform and share these amazing tracks with you. also special props to d&m for doing a great mastering job on these. - martyn

i had dinner with breach in london and he told me: hey, i have a track that is really dirtybird. i would put it out but its really sounding right for you guys. i took this with a grain of salt but then i heard lets get hot and i found out he was right. it has got the swagger and the sound. it makes girls grind their asses into boys crotches on the dancefloor. perfect. signed. so i then asked him to make something even more sexual, thinking it would be ages before i got something back. 10 days later the a-side came back to me as a 2 minute clip while i was on the train to warehouse project in manchester. i liked it so much that i edited it on the train to stretch it out to 5 minute. as expected, it slayed the room and the final version breach has delivered is one of the best records of the year in my opinion. with the simple title of jack you can see for yourself when you play it. this is the real deal. love, vonstroke

these redux releases are like buses, we dont hear anything for ages then they hit us with three killer eps in a row. following the grand corporation and machete savane comes the return of phoreski. we have not heard much from phoreski for a little while, but you will soon hear why when you put the needle to the record on these two new tracks. he has been busily building up his studio into an enviable aladdins den of vintage kit, wires and analogue recording equipment. all synths and vocals you hear on these tracks come from phoreski, no samples, no guests, no edits. he has been hinting at this raw, analogue authentic sound for a while, but these tracks showcase a producer at one with the machines. >brown biscuits< comes across like some lost italo/cosmic gem, but via the north east of england rather than the lakes of italy. >machines< flexes tight proto-house rhythms with some bass that will make mince meat of lesser club soundsystems whilst the feuding synth lines fight for attention. this is proper body music, play loud!

for the first time on this planet dial owner lawrence shows up on an excursion to his beloved pampa imprint. the double feature >kurama” presents two deepy enchanting anthems, a timeless vision of love. after touring around the globe with his new label mate dj koze since ages, having the most successful release in dial history with kosis efdemin remix, sharing music with each other like crackbrained, it is not a big surprise for lawrence to occur with two of his best pieces on pampa records. well known for his releases on mule electronic, ghostly international, styrax and his own imprints smallville, dial and laid, it was his first mix cd on cocoon >timeless< which made lawrence put some cats among the pigeons. with the new pampa again he has proved that the holy temple of deepness has to invite some flawy hypnotists once in a while to get clouded and shaken. the number 09 is dedicated to two most famous experiences in japan: the kurama mountain in kyoto, one of the most amazing places on earth, and oolong high, one of the most amazing drinks on earth- cold oolong tea on the rocks with a zip of japanese shochu liquor. after koze and lawrence had another few of these beverages again they started dreaming of this wonderful release

despite the post-industrial label often affixed to factory floor, there is a greater complexity of sound within the bands music that defies such facile descriptions. yes, there are rigid, fixed beats, and other sounds from the manufacturing plant, as suggested by the trios moniker. but there is also an underlying danceability that belies the seeming austerity of the sound, a hint at warmth that cuts through the permafrozen exterior. that curious balance has paid endless dividends thus far: they have been remixed by producer gavin russom, liars angus andrew and no ages dean allen, remixed and released by optimo, remixed and collaborated live with throbbing gristle legend chris carter, and remixed and produced (!) by joy division and new orders stephen morris. its been a whirlwind few years in terms of musical accolades, and factory floors dfa debut is a glimpse into why.
