following the release of jonas kopp s capturing debut album and the recent transllusion and drexciya re-issues, the berlin powerhouse starts the year with a bang. tresor records is proud to introduce the debut collaboration between all-time reference dj deep, and emerging artist roman poncet, with two powerful 12-s released back-to-back, exploring both modern and classic interpretations of techno. dj deep, uncovered by laurent garnier in the early ‘90s, has always rested on the cusp of modernity, whether in the realm of house or techno, relentlessly delivering visionary selections throughout. as label owner of deeply rooted, dj deep seeks out likeminded artists, including poncet, to propel his vision of contemporary sounds. roman poncet, surfaced in 2013 with a growing catalog on labels as deeply rooted, taapion or figure. the blend of the two producers is simply incendiary and their profound compatibility takes all its sense on these two eps.

recent output has seen dorisburg pushing into deeper realms. computer drumming are some further steps in these explorations of 4/4 rhythms and acoustic depth. with a wide range in tempo, the track titles offers aid for the venturous. a1 is a reduced jam of echoing percussion that never sees the entry of a kick drum. a2 compensates with bouncing bass and a playful array of drumming elements entering and dropping off in a bold tempo. exiting on a more well established pulse, the b side consists of the deepest and most mysterious offering from dorisburg to date. distant bells and chimes and a grand formation of percussion meets thundering bass in an encounter set on vast grounds.

duskys 17 steps opens 2015 by welcoming its first signed artist to the label in the much-admired london producer christian piers. one half of laszlo dancehall with leon vynehall, christian piers *beat wiser ep* follows his recent single on curle recordings which has been supported by the likes of dvs1, Âme, axel bowman and jonas kopp.

julio bashmore today premieres brand new track rhythm of auld. like recent single simple love, its set to feature on bashmore s forthcoming debut album which is due for release in february on his own broadwalk label. rhythm of auld is another brilliant collaboration with vocalist j danna (who also featured on simple love) and is the second 12inch in a series of vinyl releases bashmore will put out in the run up to the album.

the detroit music community has outposts in nearly every major city, and vancouver, british columbia is no exception. this ep represents the connection of two such artists, detroit native, josh garrett, who currently resides in vancouver and runs the subspec label, and rennie foster, a stalwart of the underground, who has spent a quarter of his life in tokyo, but born in bc and now living back there, in vancouver. rennie has released on a myriad of detroit labels, such as transmat, teknotika, soiree, subject detroit, wallshaker, and motech. josh and rennie met in vancouver, only since rennies recent return, and realizing they were of the same tribe, immediately began to collaborate on a number of projects, now including this limited run, double a-side, record, chalk full of dj friendly techno trax, firmly rooted in the motor city sound, yet unique enough to be a contributor, not just another imitator.

mindtours and freerotation boss steevio releases his first album for 10 years on his own imprint. the album was recorded live during practice for recent gigs on steevios modular synthesizer, and is entirely improvised. animistas follows on from his modular techno series, and the recent collaboration with move d, juju and jordash, and soulphiction (as the high-on-wye quintet) on the new freerotation label, and continues his progression into deeper, jazz tinged techno territory.

kloof street diggin sees wd label honcho sleazy mcqueen team up with longtime dj cohort, romano arcaini for three super-sized re- edits of the highest order. each of these three songs are based around samples sourced during smq s recent tour stops in south africa. peace, love + harmony, the perfect track to segue between house and disco! flute and synthesizer call and response building to an unexpected vocal explosion.
on the flip, disco de moda, named after the johannesburg party with a decidedly digital disco bent, arps and chugs to robotic climax. finally, tidings are closed with the organic and synthetic, tied together in private life, a blend of flute and synth undulating to a psychedelic crescendo.

san francisco-based dj/producer nick monaco has long been part of the soul clap family, releasing his first 12- on the label back in 2012. mating call, a double 12- set running at album length, is easily his most expansive release yet. it s typically eccentric, delivering a range of songs - featuring his own distinctive vocals - that blend numerous styles whilst retaining a loose, funky and altogether rather kaleidoscopic feel. it s rooted in balearic pop, but also touches on dub, deep house, boogie, dub disco and a strangely deep and contemporary take on the triple-beat rhythms of glam rock. it s hard to accurately describe, but is really rather good, certainly, it s one of soul clap s strongest releases of recent times.
