melbournian multi-hyphenate luke brown has his hands in a lot of pots, having dug deep in his dj duo with ricardo ramos, leslie salvador, as well as his ongoing death-disco / dark-synth revisionist twosome, negativ magick. but the past few years have found him exploring more classic, scruffed-up analog house terrain via his latest alias les level, and his six-track debut is purist uncut club gold. bookended by a pair of of mixes of the stellar neo-chicago anthem *house of need*, the rest of the tracks prowl through a host of suave, shuffling, strictly rhythmic variations, from the 3 am skyline seducer *smooth sailing* to the pumping, jazzy jack-groove *working nights*. an expert assemblage by a nuanced craftsman with style to burn.

brazilian foursome funky fat are back with an unmissable summer release . the original ‘jealousy’ is a funk-fuelled ride of unbridled energy, solid grooves and seductive vocals. that shaping up to be another huge release for hot creations funky fat were first seen on the label with the ‘masochist ep’, their joint venture with fellow brazilian stars digitaria, which received critical acclaim across the board for its fresh fusion of electro, disco and pop. fans of the release included the likes of solomun, sasha and claude von stroke. hot creations label boss and hot natured member jamie jones delivers a killer remix of ‘jealousy’ for late night action, cutting the vocal into snippets and working around the infectious bassline with his own crispy hi-hats and rolling drum grooves.

pow! belgian duo goldffinch are back on saigon recordings, bringing things back to where they should be: the dancefloor. the duo of yoann and gilles, from brussells, belgium, launched themselves swiftly to the forefront of their chosen electronic music style with a series of unmissable dancefloor weapons on labels like jackmasters numbers, claude von strokes dirty bird, saigon, airflex labs and audio culture. four new tracks on an ep entitled the volume, guess what the first track is called ... (yes, we dont do cleverly named eps). the lead track is smashing up airwaves/dancefloors around the world to the extent that we do sincerely hope that no injuries may have occurred due to any aggro-dance moves (we are not liable). support thus far has come from the likes of paleman, loefah, mary anne hobbs, and benji b, amongst others. goldffinch/saigon fully endorse the use of peacock related imagery.

nick lapiens debut release as metropolis garnered little attention when it materialized last year. a skeptical yet dedicated network of underground heads built up a subterranean buzz that has yet to spread into the daylight. that initial transmission was thick with the raw analogue flavors that have become ever-present in dance floor fare recently—but his is a sound that is dedicated to the emotive, narrative aspects of electronic music rather than simple fetishization or passing curiosity in the days of yore. this, his second release as metropolis, shows a more focused and patient hand at work. the titular track on the a side is a deep, psychedelic groover. melodies, textures and sequences undulate and intertwine within a lightless atmosphere guided by lapien with optimum restraint. equally pensive and gorgeous, the flood serves as a machine’s beat-less foil on the reverse. made up of little more than feedback and two slow, echo laden arpeggiated sequences, this is reminiscent of jean michel jarre’s more sinister moments: a brilliant paradox of economy and indulgence. expect to hear more from lapien here at sequencias. he has many more dark corners left unexplored.
