class71 return to the constantly in-form four:twenty following the diamond door/seaphone 12 debut which won fans of just about every decent house dj around, and what a follow up it is! alba adriatica is a 13 minute excursion in to detroit flavoured house and is as subtle as it is memorable. a rounded bassline provides the movement while delicate, dubby fx create a hypnotic vibe which underpins a blissful live saxophone and rising keys. the summer is not over yet. always being attentive to djs needs, four:twenty have also included a dub for the saxo-phobes and if that wasnt enough, they bring in the legendary move d for further mixes. with a back catalogue which includes celebrated labels such as modern love, uzuri, city centre offices and liebe*detail, move d is the toast of underground house music and has delivered a vocal and dub mix of impeccable standards. utilising the fm bass and bringing the chords up in the mix, mr. d (as nobody calls him) creates a densely layed percussive dub mix which provides a perfect kickless track for creative djing while his vox mix adds both kick and some sparse but beautiful vocal touches. this is another winner from a label which continually searches out fresh talent and is more than worthy of your attention

panthers used to play aggressive post hardcore before their style morphed into a somewhat sober version of anthemic stoner rock. they released albums on both troubleman and vice records. goblin city is the lead track from their second record, the trick. holy ghost! requested to work on goblin city. they then delivered one of the most relentlessly snappy disco dubs in quite some time. panthers also asked run roc to do a mix of the song and he came up with an excellent old school acid house version. this single is a true dfa family affair, bringing together good friends, musicians, and creative allies from the past and for the future. family reunions are not supposed to be this much fun.

aus continue to release the best and brightest of contemporary dance music with the oehug the scary ep, a collaboration between luminaries will saul and lee jones. will saul is best known as the head of simple records, up for nomination as best british label in dj magazine this year and also sister label to the more experimental aus imprint on which this ep is released. in his career to date he has released numerous singles on simple, the critically acclaimed space between album and has recently produced an ep for the german label systematic. englishman in berlin lee jones has to date released acclaimed singles on liebe detail, aus and his own label, just rec. formerly releasing under the moniker hefner , he is also a main creative force behind playhouse my my, whose oesongs for the gentle album won plaudits worldwide in 2006. opener oehug the scary is a transcendental journey. trace echoes of melody encircle an intensifying percussive step, filtering to a chimed key reflection. tonal themes fade in, compete, distort and then depart, making way for peaks of overwhelming melody, with only the fittest surviving and elevating to the sublime. on the flip side, partial arts (the duo of ewan pearson and al usher) give their own, heavily percussive, account of proceedings. stormy fuzz and bubble bath accents introduce a funk bassline and interplay between looped guitar and tonal melody. a sci-fi synth haze halts and then dictates the progression into a saturated melodic climax.
