launched in may of 2014, tuskegee music is a label of cultural heritage run by house luminaries seth troxler and the martinez brothers. with previous releases from the label heads themselves as well as william kouam djoko, ibellini, filsonik and jesse colosso the next installment comes from a new addition to the tuskegee fold - a veiled, berlin based legend operating under the guise of kool d.

last time round for finale, it was label boss michael zucker offering some rare insight into his prowess behind the buttons. here zucker adopts the more familiar curatorial role, easing the finale focus towards the new generation of parisian artists prospering in the french capital. ka one & st sene oversee the prospering flyance records and arrive on finale with the french connection 12inch after a recent turn out on london s ornate music. the four tracks suggest ka one & st sene are developing into a truly diverse production unit, with the crisp motor city utopia of smokin joint a particular highlight.

the second installment of uzuri’s “the wilderness sessions” delivers 3 tracks geared towards the refined dancers and listeners of the world. the idea here is slow burning broken beat tracks infused with the soul of jazz and funk. the ep opens with fox ‘n hound, a slightly menacing and equally sexy jam which ebbs and flows with a delightfully funky bass line and enough melodic accents to keep full attention. the secret here is in the details which are craft-fully manipulated by this talented duo. futonjam continues the trend of beautifully unfolding composition with its shuffled percussion and gracefully evolving melodies. a perfect track for home listening and for those deep sultry moments on the dance floor. the crown jewel of this release is certainly the near 9 minute odyssey that is zukunft/ silber. a track which entertains and pushes towards a sophisticated style which is undeniably unique in approach. using broken patterns as a back drop for beautifully orchestrated strings, micro flutes and longing horns it transforms from a sweet and delicate sound to something more demanding of our bodies movement. this release will be sure to mark the beginning of what we can expect from these two producers who clearly aim to set themselves apart from the crowd.

considering the combined talents of detroit veteran terrence dixon and black jazz consortium man fred p, you d expect this split ep for finale sessions to be a lesson in warm, soul-flecked depth. pleasingly, that s exactly what it delivers. dixon excels with the sub-sporting alien futurism of -to the bridge- - the aural equivalent of staring into space while dancing to electronic jazz - and the sumptuous, minor key bliss of the casual deep house jam -starting over-. fred p, meanwhile, delivers two contrasting cuts. there s some acid-fuelled deep house futurism in the shape of -circuit-, and a chunk of bongo-laden dancefloor humidity in -the road-, whose rising strings and sweet melodies are arguably the highlight of a superb ep.

this various e.p start with a cosmic transmission mixed with funky beats and keys by german vinyl junky jupiter tuning center. second track by label owner petr serkin is many filtered chords and guitars, keep the same vibes. on the b side, russian musician buzz compass, already signed releases on glenview and no more hits, he delivered here a deep groovy thing with beautiful voice parts. and the final one is a very melodic tune by four walls from belarus, who already was released on kolour ltd and traxx underground.

finale breaks the gender barrier with the debut by this berlin producer. epic atmospheric piano house to techno driven peak time to raw dance floor killers, like finale does it.

when the aquaplano records were first released in 2008 and 2009, emerging out of hardwax with little fanfare, they were distinctly out of step with the way techno appeared to be heading. the minimal detour was reaching its logical endpoint, and producers were returning to the 1990s for inspiration, with berghain and sandwell district at the vanguard of a new techno movement. what the aquaplano sessions shared in common were slower bpms and finding inspiration in the 1990s, but there they parted ways. the influences these italians were drawing on were rather different, returning to tribal rhythms and ambient textures to sketch out a much more heady, psychedelic form of techno.

deadbeat. tikiman. infinity. dub. a quadrangle of such obvious statement and perfect musical inference may very well never have been uttered for those of the wholly weeded out persuasion. indeed, when the great book of dub music is written the names scott monteith and paul st hilaire will undoubtedly figure highly in its chapters devoted to recent years. monteith, the last great prodigal son of the doctrine handed down from the blue mount of lord scratch and king tubby, st hilaire the undisputed voice of a generation, those fanatical warrior monks, followers of the most holy house of ernestus and von oswald incarnate.

nuearth kitchen christens its nuearth conservatory sister label with an exquisitely laid-back ep by the stockholm, sweden duo tommy awards. the four luxurious, untitled tracks on sessions arose from a live jam the twosome recorded for made like a trees esteemed podcast series in early 2013. tommy awards have refined the raw materials from that excursion into a balmy aural journey into realms of spacious tranquility.

studio bruno is the joint project of johannes beck as well as his friend musicians and producers. the concept of studio bruno is based on a one week stay at studio bruno in an old farmhouse in steigerwald, franconia, a lovely nature park in north bavaria, where each musician invited brings a machine or an instrument of his choice. the focus of that week is the common producing and live improvising.for the first record steffen bennemann (nachtdigital) and sevensol (kann) were invited. sevensol brought his tr-707, his monotron delay and steffen bennemann came with his field recorder. the result of this one-week session is a deep house track with a distorted synth line and a krautrock-slash-funky jazz track!
