charlie ahearn s 1983 film wild style holds a place in both music and cinematic history as one of the first examples of a hip-hop film. since its original release it has been widely praised for its hybrid approach as both a narrative musical and a documentary, and as a time capsule of sorts into the culture of hip-hop during its infancy in the 1980s. besides its classic depictions of mcing, turntablism, graffiti, and breakdancing, the film also featured now legendary figures of the genres in acting roles, such as grandmaster flash, fab five freddy, busy bee starski, and many more. wild style went on to garner an immense cult following, portions of the film itself would be sampled in records by artists like nas, beastie boys, mf doom, and more, and would even be exhibited by museums in chicago and boston as part of programs on the art of the 1980s.

london head aroop roy takes on brazilian rhythms for the 4th time on gamm and its quite possibly the best one yet. the working formula, simple but yet very well crafted to work both in clubs and for home listening. first off we get -flecha de foga- that uses a rare nazare pereira samba track as the foundation but with loads of added chords, beats and production details. on the flip todo mundo tem amor marries a driving analogue bassline to an amped up version of another sul americano classic - blazing !

three is truly the magic number on this special rsd release from razor-n-tape, with a trio of groovy tracks by nashville-based magic in threes. the original version of beatin tha breaks is an easy-breezy affair dripping with soulful guitars and harmonies, freddie joachim s brings his signature smooth and rhythmic sound on his remix, and the fouk mix rounds out the triptych with a touch of uptempo housey deepness.

at last! the full 12:45 john morales mix of this underground boogie classic gets the proper vinyl release it has always deserved! all those discogs cowboys can now safely crawl back under their stones! replicating the original 1982 12”, except this one doesn’t fade out a minute and a half before the end. the original flipside is present, only this time cut at 45rpm for higher audio resolution. available from 14-07-2017. this release is (i think!) the first time all twelve minutes and forty-five seconds have been pressed on wax (in an ultra limited quantity) so don’t miss it, steven!
