mick has been active in the seedier corners of electronic music for more than 30 years, first immersing himself in the world of hi-nrg and new wave before embracing the house, techno, acid and electro explosion of the late 1980s. aligned with dj hell in the 90s and more recently the intergalactic fm crew, hes the quintessential selector. a life spent digging in the undergrowth for deviant dance music has given him the edge that makes a truly gifted spinner, without riding on hype or studio productions. however, mick isnt adverse to the odd outing on vinyl, having previously appeared on international dj gigolos both solo and as the kinky lovers with sometime partner isabella venis, but these moments are few and far between. for this release on arma, mick has given us two edits that speak to his distinctive style as a dj the original tracks are cult choices re-moulded into deadly, subversive club weapons. the brooding darkwave of himmelfahrt 89 is enough to turn the most indifferent bar crowd into swaying, baying denizens of the night, while stay silent pummels out a relentless electro motif that teeters on the edge of destruction for 11 thrilling minutes. these arent crowd-pleasing dj tools, and neither are they slick and easy edits of obvious classics. this is a peek into the inner workings of a man with decades of experience working masses of flesh into a sweaty fever pitch using sounds youve never heard before. the mastering on micks edits was undertaken by none other than dutch electro legend rude 66, while the striking artwork on the sleeve sees arma reach out for the first time to french artist judex. the nerve-shredding, broken op-art assault was originally found in a book published by cult illustrator sam rictus.

up first is smooth, an infectious groove with lively synths scurrying about and bringing lots of dynamism to the drums. the percussion is crisp and the whole thing feels spaced out and futuristic. it’s busy and brimming with energy and will get any floor on its toes. sharp is a darker number with more menace in the drums. they are rubbery and supple and run through with edgy little synth lines. the track grows wilder as it unfolds and will really work dance floors into a lather.
once again the master joss shows just why he is such a tastemaker in the underground dance scene.

million brazilians formed in portland, oregon in 2006. founding members grant corum and suzanne stone have been central to the band since its inception, while a rotating line-up backs them depending on the latest vision for the sound. tip! the band carry out their own interpretation of a genre bending ethos that has evolved throughout the american underground. drifting between boundless compositions, focused energetic improvisations and experimental collaborations that embrace a weird sort of transcendence. their next installment red rose and obsidian was recorded in maine and engineered by big blood’s caleb mulkerin. both he and the band deliver a powerful yet fragile and personal release. the mythical and evocative recordings are inspired by maine s rugged coastlines, mournful ripples of sound wash up on the shore, whilst a lonesome, at times harrowing saxophone drifts through the rolling mountains, providing unsettling melodic interludes. electronic treatments veil organic sounds, a fleeting whistle meets spontaneously with spacey flutes, mutated rock rhythms are topped off with the soaring vocals of suzanne stone who leads the listeners into the magical world of the million brazilians.

ugly papas were one of the leading acts in the belgian rock scene in the early part of the 90s. 23 years after their final release, they are back with their third full-length album. feisty indie rock, jazzy loops, zappa-esque episodes and fela kuti rhythms. with luc dufourmont (two russian cowboys, id!ots, bevergem) on vocals.

bionda e lupo are like little you ll have heard before, a boy/girl band like no other. synth wave is fed a line of modern alienation, delusory disco to a disdainful drum beat, house emptied and ridiculed. rhythms are stark, melodies are as mechanical as the lyrics. -zug der vogel- is sparse, vocals intertwine in an empty embrace whilst bars sparkle. -twoi glasza- is more playful. bright words shimmer against sweeping strings. the past is parodied across the ep but nowhere more so than in -die kinder aus dem park.- a former classic dug out before being peppered by machine gun percussion. the stilted rhyme of -eckstein- closes, a ballad of bittersweet images and lost hopes.

dream control is the collaboration of a legend of the krautrock kosmiche scene and a pioneer of the german electronic scene. zeus b. held, renowned producer (gina x performance and works under his own moniker) and steve schroyder (former member of tangerine dream during their formative period) team up to deliver their debut album -zeitgeber- which celebrates their very own sound and rhythm in a cosmic journey through audio and time. the tracks are a blend of structured compositions and improvisations accented by the throat singing of kolja simon und felix monnich aka alienvoices. the album plays like a technicolor adventure through space with explorations of cosmic disco, dreamlike passages, vocoder lullabies, and space odysseys. zeus b. held began his musical career in 1972 in french progressive art-rock band eruption before joining successful german prog rock group birth control, performing and writing with them 1973 - 1978. he was one of the first musicians to use the sennheiser vocoder vsm 201 in his live sets.

for the third release on decoder recordings, filip xavi makes his debut to the label. the serbian producer and resident dj of the drugstore club in belgrade delivers four superb techno tracks. all of them are characterized by an obscure sound but directly aimed at the dance floor. the first track wd-4d is a powerful opening of the ep, with its successor aw-fl keeping pace nicely. the b side of this ep can t be ignored, as the opening track he-ap kicks off quite fierce. the final composition named d-ui is an excellent hypnotic dj tool.

third root is a central texas hip-hop collaborative that focuses on black and brown overlapping culture and identity. the group consists of charles peters (easy lee), marco cervantes (mexican stepgrandfather), and dj chicken george (djcg). peters is an accomplished poet and educator, cervantes is a producer and ph.d. who teaches at the university of texas at san antonio, and djcg is a world-renowned dj, musicologist, designer & jazztronica! peddler. their latest album, libertad, produced entirely by grammy award winner adrian quesada (grupo fantasma, brownout, echocentrics, spanish gold), reflects today’s current mobilization among black and brown communities in the face of debilitating cycles of police brutality, ?awed educational systems, privately owned prisons and detainment centers, corporately owned politicians, and racist judicial systems. the album delivers a mix of social justice and jam session with each song designed to raise questions, incite discussion, and promote healing and liberation. “reflection of the times” and “soul force” are the leading singles from libertad.

kon’s masterful arrangement highlights the desirous pleas of lead vocalist lynn davis while showcasing the very ahead of its time instrumentation (there are even hints of larry heard to be heard here) of mr. duke’s musical masterpiece. carefully breaking down and building up the arrangement, kon even pulls out previously unheard vocal gems from george duke himself hidden in the original stems giving the listener a glimpse of the studio vibe during its recording. this release also boasts the original version taken directly from the studio masters of the highly sought after 12”. all in all floor stomping disco magic from one of the world’s best remixers further sonically enhanced by boston native caserta on the mix.

during the mid-80s and early 90s movin’ records defined the new jersey sound. a skate-shop-turned-record-store run by the so-called “fairy godmother of house” abigail adams, movin’s first output was ‘i’ve got the music’ by boyd jarvis in 1987, followed by music from game changers blaze, kerri chandler, tony humphries and smack, straight up “jersey jams” that producers are still attempting to replicate to this day. still the movin’ records catalogue throws up gems that sound super fresh along with plenty of lightbulb moments of musical discovery.
for the most part movin’ records focused on soulful vocal tracks but they peppered a few deeper tracks into the catalogue too. this is one of those releases and one of the rarer titles to find from the label. produced by steve kelly and steve ‘lucky’ benson as 3 a.m., this was the only single under that group name, although they were involved in other productions from new jersey. deep chords, a heavy kick and a low-end bass form the backing for the repeated vocal line “i love this place”. the ‘place of worship’ mix brings an uplifting piano line to the forefront, whilst an organ line jams out through the track with a jazzy walking bassline holding the groove together.

first time band anthology - includes 9 unreleased tracks! this fall, the independent literary press all night menu will publish sam sweets hadley lee lightcap, a nonfiction novel that traces the backstories of the three members in acetone, a band that played in los angeles for nine years. though few heard them, their recordings are time capsules of who they were, how they lived, and where they came from. light in the attic has partnered with all night menu to present acetone 1992-2001, the first anthology of the trios music. the book and the album will be released at the same time.

this is the first 12 inch from luke jenner’s first solo project since his infamous new york band the rapture split up. very often first releases are like a statement. both sides of this 12 represent a side of what meditation tunnel is about: epic and melodic on dreamsequence, psychedelic and hypnotic on sunrise. mixed by joakim, whom luke shares a studio with in brooklyn.

we are proud to present the 11th release on going good, fittingly by xi (sex tags mania, sued). with earlier releases fetching up to at least 3/4 times original value, xi s work is in demand and this will be only their 4th release since their first in 2009. quality over quantity being the mantra it would seem.. plus running labels, putting on parties, producing under various other guises and djing/performing live around the world also feeding into the size of output.

a software engineer at ableton by day, sieren’s love for uk influenced bass music and field recording and experimental soundscaping resulted in his apollo debut ‘static polymorphism’ a masterly ep of spaced out street-rave soul.
now returning with the five track ascension ep, frick has tightened and toughened up his sound somewhat (see the caustic bass glower of ‘slinger’), augmenting his starry eyed wonder with a firmer percussive underpinning and more driving tempos. however still present are his preternatural grasp of emotion and atmosphere that marked him out as one to watch - perfectly underscored by the heartbreaking beauty of the title track.
fellow apollo cohort synkro aka joe mcbride was instrumental in the curation of sieren’s debut static polymorphism ep on apollo, hand picking the tracks, as well as road testing them in his dj sets. this time mcbride goes one further, collaborating with frick on the track ‘lost you’ to memorable effect - the beautiful pads and ghostly piano are a perfect synergy of their complimentary skill sets.
this is richly textured and intricately programmed post-bass music that is sure to satisfy fans of burial, dbridge, akkord with its soulful sincerity and warmth.
