what do people like balihus daniel wang and royksopp have in common? they write nice things like this about our (not so) new talent kid on the block. polosh superproducer maximilian skiba! music from a very good young polish producer, warm chords, funky melodies, think bass and guitars by chic meeting a string section by beethoven, with a touch of italo-disco and almost flamenco-like soul daniel wang he produces very nice italo disco tracks, im a fan royksopp. shanghouse is an instant hit. i would say instant classic if this wasnt so daft and meaningless. if you just heard it 5 times and feel the need to put it on another time. thats shanghouse by max skiba. then theres a great remix by victor rosado and a great slightly diverse prins thomas edit of korsakot another track.
the km editions series, admirably helmed by the mysterious keyboard masher, has always been one of the more interesting re-edit/rework labels. past installments have touched on krautrock, disco, balearica, funk, italo and what can only be described as electronic oddities. this sixth volume offers up three more impressively remixed, overdubbed and reedited gems. theres naturally much to admire, not least the omd style woozy synth-pop of stolen shapes (stealing rework), which should tickle the fancy of anyone of a balearic disposition. the same can be said about the immersive, sun-kissed pianos and shuffling grooves of -astral playground. there s also a chunk of silly but, perversely, rather good french cod-reggae in the shape of le cod-, arguably our pick of a strong bunch.

we dont question the relevance of techno in the current musical landscape, but look back ten years or so and youll figure things were a little stagnant and uninspiring. the techno scene in berlin certainly did a lot to spruce new life in the genre and people like merbeck with his vault series releases were somehow pioneers of the industrial-influenced sound we now celebrate and take for granted. now landing on m_rec ltd. with a 3 track ep, the berlin resident fuses his aggressive sound with the hypnotic, dark-room elements that have defined the labels vision. m_rec ltd. starts 2015 with a nasty release: three tracks that fit any moment of a proper techno set.

rob glassett aka fold has been playing his trade of quality house music for over 10 years now. with a seemingly bottomless record bag, his varied and soulful sets at panorama bar and on nts have seen him gain increasing recognition. his return to manmakemusic sums up what hes been perfecting over these last years: timeless house music. from the disco echoes of mr w00d to the dubbed-out thump of keif chugwin, this is one versatile ep which were proud to have on the imprint.
with the bizarre feeling ep laying the sound for the subsequent fist year of the label, it is right jamie returns with ep#2 to move things forward with another twisted take on his unique mutoid-protoid-machine-funk-groove. starting with mad obsession you would be forgiven for thinking you ll have bizarre feeling part 2, with warped vocals - taken from late night, half asleep scribbled notes - and space echo haze, but let the percussion work-out trip you up and the stars in and before you know it things start going leftfild and then deeper with the free party sound system bass line shuffl of time nearly time. what he is on (about), no one knows. it is on the flp however that things take a darker turn. beyond the confession booth, down sharp stairs and dripping ceiling to a red light lit room of latter day late night blues.

having previously kept their re-edit series in-house, leeds-based crate-diggers joe s bakery have invited moton (aka london veterans diesel and dave jarvis) to deliver the latest release. those who ve followed the moton records inc series (active since the 90s) will know what to expect: expert re-rubs of obscure material that get the right balance between dancefloor chops and home listening selections. look out for the odd shuffle and electric piano solos of -moody blues-, the percussive early 80s, synth-heavy live disco brilliance of -zoo- (yes, it s definitely balearic) and the hazy, midtempo disco-funk of -bumps-. it s getting progressively hard to find worthwhile re-edit 12- singles, but this one s a genuine killer

after an a-side debut on m_red ltds heady 10 series, shadowy outfit overall severity return with their first full outing for key vinyl. much like the slabs of steely sonic wares that have paved the way before it, knowing the healing presents three works of on-point dance floor material weve come to associate with the underground tastemaker. explain pain is the eps aggravated opener. a pounding kick and itchy percussion unfurls into a din of claps and noises, spliced with melodious peals and a low-slung sort of groove. backfiring nerves is one of those cool peak-time weapons: frantic yet subtle, deeply groovy and plied with much-loved vintage crashes. parasympathetic then concludes in the form of a chugging basement bomb awash with bleary acid tones, crystal hats and muted dissonant chimes. all in all, knowing the healing marks a powerful entry into the ring from these ones-to-watch newcomers.

here we have one of our favourite kitties. affkt! he is one of the most experienced electronic producers coming from spain. lost in process ep is a two tracked affair backed with the remixes from cristoph and wehbba. the title track is such a delicate cut, boasting the sensual vocals from thomas gandey which evolves the cut into a deep and emotional song that radiates pure joy. on the other hand, boss is a darker and techier cut featuring thomas gandeys robotised voice that perfectly balance the whole cut. the remixes from cristoph and wehbba bring out the burst of energy the release deserves.

neustadtmusik, with great pleasure, presents two excellent new tracks. dietrich & strolch have created an exquisite, smooth piece of music. the two brothers, who are known for their live sets that take their audience on a journey, have combined their passion for percussions and wicked synth sound perfectly. this track takes you to a deep underground techno dance floor where you find yourself dancing with your eyes closed and drifting away into another dimension, to the ocean, the sun and warm sand between your feet and back. sous sol s track on this release has it all, including a sense of delight that brings out a smile on your face. the rolling bass line brings in mind the siberian express rolling through the cold winter landscape of russia while at the same time there is warmth and the heart gets filled with these warm elements. this rolls parallel to a consistent build up throughout the whole track that makes this composition just perfect.
