music is about discourse: it’s about ideas, about the intellectual project. anyone can build a “beat”, but not everybody can produce an interesting argument for it. this implies the idea of romanticism as a notion of tradition and respect for certain rules. romanticism understood as virtuosity in the manipulation of art production tools. virtuosi of their own methodology. certain pedigree of virtuosity is definitely needed…but in many regards it also remains an extremely conventional formalism, which is at the core of every artist. it doesn’t matter if you have to piss around in the subterranean electronic music trenches for over two decades. a true pioneer simply has to live with that sort of dichotomy. here there are two good examples.

asher levitas is perhaps best known as part of old apparatus, the acclaimed and enigmatic london experimental outfit. over the last few years he has featured on releases for labels including deep medi, houndstooth and left blank as ‘saa’ with the singer linn carin dirdal.
‘lit harness’, his first solo album, started forming as a project in 2015 alongside the artist and writer michael crowe who worked on the live a/v show while asher created the music with vocalist marina elderton (from the ethereal psych band kull) who features on the tracks.

infrastructure regularly works with up-and-coming artists on cover artwork. respected young swiss artist julian charriere provided the iconic greyscale cover for post scriptum s debut lp (inf-020), and london based photographer guy archard s work featured on campbell irvine s reunion of two bodies maxi-ep (inf-018). now the celebrated british fine-artist robert ncnally has been invited to submit original artwork for facticity. selected by jake and dinos chapman to show work at the prestigious flowers gallery in london, and commissioned by damien hurst to provide work for his private collection, robert s incredibly detailed large scale pencil drawings are attracting serious interest in the modern art world. mcnally s cover image was selected from a series of works based on adapted antique post cards. its anti-establishment, censorship-related overtones are clear to see, as is the stark use of contrast - thick layers obscure the fading original, re-appropriating it. setting the tone for this carefully compiled collection of new music, rich in subtexts and sub-genres, a special edition print of the cover artwork will be included in the first 500 copies of facticity.

released on damian lazarus highly acclaimed crosstown rebels imprint valor tells a deeply personal narrative for chilean born and berlin based producer/dj dinky, her sixth album acts as a pinnacle to her steadfast and illustrious career and brought on a momentous change to her personal journey. esteemed for her work on labels such as cocoon, ostgut ton traum, wagon repair, horizontal and visionquest, and dj residency at berlins infamous panorama bar for over a decade, dinky aka alejandra iglesias is a trained classical guitarist, singer and keyboard player. her voice is an anchor to valor, its crisp definition loaded with intensity. tracks such as the driving single casa called out by us giants npr for its gorgeously layered vocals and the fragile layers of guitar and synths on cuts like milk make bold unions between sublime house and techno electronics and dinkys live instrumentation

ebony goes first with real truth and offers a track that is both punchy and powerful thanks to its raw and thumping drums, but spiritual and serve thanks to the pained and soul infused vocal wails up top. glistening glass pads and over sized hi hats add to the intensity of this classy rave banger. r then serves up focus, eight minutes of freaky and hypnotic techno with creepy voices moving about the space as distorted kicks and droning reverb brings a physical feel. it s intense and dark and then comes colossus, a breakbeat driven track with heavenly pads making for a grand and atmospheric headspace. cosmic signifiers and far off pads add to the serenity of it all and will leave you with both a heavy heart and a stomping foot.

the next release on our label comes from our dear friend franco cinelli from argentina. franco is one of the main artists and pioneers of electronic music in his country and also has been working as a dj outside of argentina for many years now. besides the fact that he is a very talented and super tight dj, franco also has been releasing some impressive music over the past years. we have been following his productions for quite a while and therefor we are super happy to finally welcome him on board of our label with this truly great release

andy hart returns after an almost two-year hiatus from the studio to release his first ep on the voyage imprint. following on from urulus greetings from namek, mistress in your mind is the sixth release and adds to a growing collection that already includes releases from harvey sutherland, m5k and ctepeo 57. mistress in your mind loosely stems from the intertwining influences of a love-induced delusion broken down over four tracks. hart draws sentiment from several aspects of his record collection, giving subtle nods to break beat, soul, acid and space-laden house.

straight, unadulterated, chi-town box jams from the mighty chris bam-bam westbrook! this is that 1988 flavour, raw acid, punishing drum machines, the unmistakable sound of warehouse parties, darkened dance-floors and smoke machines in overdrive. often imitated, never bettered, the real deal! one of many classics from bam-bam s impressive back catalogue give it to me is tough, sexy and jacking and still sounds like it weighs 1000 tons over 30 years (!) since its original release. reissued here in its original form on the westbrook label for 2016. fully licensed and remastered with the full consent of bam-bam / westbrook records. do not sleep on this chicago acid house killer - essential stuff!

lumièreslanuit is glad to welcome istanbul-based duo bärtaub (mutlu san & batuhan güler) for the 6th release of the label. as in most of the duos, each of the members has his speciality. whereas mutlu focuses primarely on the music production, batu is known by istanbuls house/techno aficionados as a restless dj. bärtaubs debut ep is called rhizome (type of plant root) not without reason. beats, melodies and bassline jump over, crawl under and draw apart from each other in unexpected and non-hierarchical ways. in the end, they all come together in a harmonious manner that creates an overall of excitingly playful forest-like atmosphere.

they say you have your whole life to make your first album, years upon years of growth, learning and experience filtered into one perfect record. your debut is supposed to be the one you labour over, while the follow-up is meant to be served up within spitting distance of the last. well, not if you’re london based wild palms. “we did that in reverse,” explains the band’s sardonic, quick-witted frontman lou hill. “the first album was just the songs that we would play live, we wrote it really quickly. but this one took ages...” five years in fact.
recorded by the band in the same self-built manor house studio where they made their 2011 de-but ‘until spring’, the new album ‘live together, eat each other’ is a lusciously layered offering of hazy experimentalism and off-kilter alt-pop, that follows in the auspicious lineage of beach house, cocteau twins and tv on the radio.

our fresh outing for kid caprice ep sees another new face join the dirt crew/ spiel family. our latest artist discovery is bal 5000 out of budapest, hungary. coming from a diverse genre background, his sound ranges from disco to techno, tastefully touched with indie and balearic. the title track, for kid caprice heralds a soulful bass line, easy house stabs, light hearted keys, gently swung percussion and sparkling disco licks, this ones a soundtrack for traversing the cosmos or blissfully swaying on a dance floor. dub version steps the energy up a notch. with its growling lead and steady lathered groove this one is wide and warm. on the b-side, farewell my lovely is melancholic yet uplifting, eerie synths sing over positive key hits and its lithe melodic lines playfully interact with the rolling bass giving this one a live synth-pop feel. wake up! its monday! is bouncing and joyous with a chunky bass at its core. a queasy lead wraps around the central ideas while rising arpeggios elevate the mood. finally, as digital only track, cop is a pumping italo influenced house jam brightened with classic disco elements. boasting a self assured bass and gritty rumbling analogue synths, this one is right at home under the lights.

those familiar with the world of dub disco and modern balearica should know all about layne fox, a san francisco-based producer who has released some killer records over the last decade as part of noted collective 40 thieves. the bay area ensemble has been responsible for some killer records, including gems on rong music and leng, who released their expansive debut album the sky is yours back in 2014. now, fox has decided to go it alone for an outing on magic feet that marks his first solo outing since 2005 s move me under the tuffy alias. its something of a gem, too, effortlessly combining many of his familiar influences with nods towards druggy italo-disco and horizontal pop.

is it balearic releases a debut ep from clandestino s joe morris. 4 tracks of lush electronic grooves. the title track golden tides is a mid tempo houser with beautiful pads and soft arpeggios. late afternoon sundowner vibrations. the second track bayou has touches of sueno latino about it, an afterdark evocative tropical house trip. on the flip the first track light of the moon is a more reflective slo mo affair. warm pads and 808 sounds melting into cicadas. finally we come to mpondo theme. sounds of nature kalimba and loose percussion all sit together and watch the sun dip over the savannah horizon. a proper ep this covering all shades.

according to white material pair galcher lustwerk and alvin aronson, their first collaborative album under the studio ost alias contains a mix of breezy electro, aquatic dub, high speed jit, and shimmering atmospherics. while clearly tongue-in-cheek, it s a fairly accurate description. certainly, there s a fluidity, moodiness and palpable sense of atmosphere at the heart of scenes, which casually drifts between hard-edged club workouts, hazy post-club fare and dreamy, horizontal experiments. it was apparently recorded over a three-year period, during jam sessions at various new york studios. its the spontaneous aspect of its creation that has the biggest effect, and makes the whole thing feel like fleeting snapshots of moments in time.

thomas urv and miss mostlys norwegian techno imprint ploink drops the second in its trilogy of releases celebrating the brands 20-year anniversary. following on from the first release that featured renowned scandinavian artists such as prins thomas, mental overdrive, urhaug, nordenstam, christian tilt and hutmacher, the labels next outing sees five more members of the local scene make appearances.

mindtrip presents mt13, which sees another young argentinan talent - farceb - making his mindtrip debut. farceb is a producer whos been pricking ears over the last couple of years with strong releases on labels such as arts, orioni and circular limited. he now joins pfirters imprint with his superb signals from space ep. exoplanet war sets things in motion and is a stylish, entrancing tune, which, if it wasnt for its intrinsic energy and power - would border on the somniferous. next up is signals from space, a tough, brutal and percussive workout, punctuated by dark, organic synth stabs. this track builds and rolls along in a way dancefloors will love. unknown shadow is a powerful, stripped down merciless lump of peak-time techno which cleverly blends atmosphere and hard hitting percussion. the final track - the superb hyperion, is a 6 minute, deadly exercise in pushing intensity and tension to (and sometimes beyond) commonsensical limits. this is mindtrip music!

this ep brings together tracks that bookend lee norris prolific career: two from 1998s sought-after tidal frequencies ep and two cd-only tracks from 2015s * soul of the machine* compilation. for fans, this is a welcome reminder of the sometimes visceral (‘instamatic’), sometimes weightless (‘fragile’) but always deeply-felt sensation that noriss’ music continues to impress even on the most seasoned devotee. for new listeners, this is a comprehensive introduction to the career of a man whose sound has remained diverse yet cohesive over more than 15 lps and twice as many 12”s. ‘slowform’ and ‘ride’, both new cuts from last year’s retrospective, show a dance floor progression that bodes well for his newest album, out in 2016.

for their tenth release, voodoo down has again chosen to debut a new act to add to their label roster. andy harper and nic ford have been making music together for over a decade but began releasing in earnest under the name maddermodes in 2014 on their own label, shift coordinate points. they have since put out records on the labels millions of moments and night drive music. their handful of releases have already drawn support from top names like move d and nick höppner, and its clear that the duos sound is only getting more refined with each successive record. the ep entitled emprical evidence is a wholly cinematic piece of work, spread across four tracks that unravel slowly, unified by a theme of pumping syncopated rhythms under sprawling pad and string progressions. its easy to get lost in the thick arrangements, and the inventive use of samples and melodic elements invite repeat listening. equally suitable for early morning hours, ultra-deep techno sets, or quiet home listening sessions.

unheard nuggets all over this one... palto flats and new general catalogue are partnering to release awaawaa, a new record by woo, the longstanding project of british brothers mark and clive ives. undertones of: jon hassell, holger czukay, durutti column, popol vuh, this heat... a hearty recommendation from us! featuring never before heard recordings from woo’s archives, awaawaa sees the band at their most evocative and psychedelic - presenting a suitelike, atmospheric collection of stunning miniatures. recorded in south london during 1975-82, awaawaa lines up chronologically with other woo releases, such as ‘whichever way you are going, you are going wrong,’ and touches upon synth, ambient, electronics, dub, and even krautrock. following re-issues on drag city and emotional rescue, awaawaa presents a new chapter in woo’s celebrated discography, further distilling the brother’s unique and otherworldy vision.

jessy lanza s second album oh no is inspired by japanese 80s electro outfit yellow magic orchestra’s philosophy of experimental pop. playfully laced with cascading arpeggios, crispy drum machines and breezy songs, oh no has an infectious energy that has carried over from her live shows.
made in her hometown of hamilton, ontario, with production partner jeremy greenspan from junior boys, the plaintive, reverb drizzled mood of the first album has all but given away to a more direct, confident and joyful album. as jessy says ‘i want to make people feel good and i want to make myself feel good’

oshana returns to us with the multiverse ep, it s an undeniable thrill to see how our girl from nyc has evolved over time. the tough, sure-footed approach on both tracks here suggests a more techno-flavoured influence coming to bear on oshana s studio work, and she makes the style all her own. from the warm, pad-enriched swell of rashomon theory to the bass-driven sass of voyager , this is oshana at her most confident and dynamic, and we re thrilled to be sharing it

summer season just started and we’re kickin’ it off with a pack of quality cuts brought to you by flashmob, danny serrano, clio, spencer k and collective machine: it sounds as good as it is. flashmob’s „year 1993“ is a deep organ tech tool that takes over big and small rooms alike, just made for peak time hours. danny returns with slate, a laidback track that hooks with tight snares and a locked groove. next up are spencer k and collective machine who joined forces for this release and we hope they’re up to repeat it, since that’s all where doing with “sonic attitude“ and “hit that way(digital only)“. clio completes the package and brings us some good summer vibes with “i need you“, need anything else?

reissue of one of amsterdam’s most respected producers steve rachmad aka sterac s essential 1996 detroit style techno classic. remastered and housed in full color artwork. tip! originally released on stalwart dutch techno label, 100% pure (then entitled primus / osirion), this one has been getting plays by a fresh new wave of deep digging djs over the past years. this timely re-issue was needed. the a side osirion, is built on a classic drum loop layered with rachmad style arppegiators and euphoric strings. the b side features a more abstract 909 detroit infused loop, full of heavy synths and percussion. both tracks have stood the test of time and sound fresh as ever.

kevin saunderson s kms imprint is a label that should require no introduction. the motor city label has been a techno mainstay since it s inception in 1987. numerous detroit luminaries have released classic after classic on the labels hallowed grooves over the last 25+ years and its influence is still felt in contemporary dance music today. the idea behind the kms origins series is to shine a light on the lesser known cuts in the kms vaults as well as the classics that have given the label it s legendary status during its lifetime.
